New Hosting Site for Discussions

My POV friends and confidants,

I took Tossing Thabeets’ (best screen name ever) suggestion and ditched Skype which required all parties join Skype in order to communicate.

Instead we will use a hosting site named Bluejeans.com. and it is as simple as can be.  All a caller has to do is dial the websites regular phone number and then enter a 10 digit “Meeting’s unique ID code” and the screen will ask you what name you want to use then Hey Presto!  you are in the discussion group.

You can also get into the discussion just by clicking on a link I will provide you via email or via the POV comments section…

Here is the Bluejeans.com front page and at the top you will see a bar that looks like this over toward the right side:

BJ4.png

You’ll click on the “Join Meeting” box and that will start you into the below process.

Before you do that I will have sent an email, text or posted the meeting’s ID number. An example of you’re using your computer is that I will either send you an email, text or post  this link:

https:/bluejeans.com/5713314009 (that last number was our session’s unique ID # from last evening  – it changes with every meeting). Do that and you are in Bluejeans.

Truly is as easy as pie (fingers crossed)…  Then:

BJ1.png

The screen above will appear  and in a caller’s case you would click on the bottom circle on the left “Enter meeting ID” then you should come to this screen.

Then you should see the screen below.

I put a red dot next to the “Camera on” question because if you don’t want to be seen by others you will click ‘off’I put a green dot next to “Microphone on” because you want to keep that ‘on‘ if you want to talk to the group.bj3

If you don’t want to be heard but want to listen-in real-time I believe you can click the microphone ‘off’ and still hear the session as it is playing out – but then you can join in the discussion at any time by clicking your mic back to ‘on’..

I think it is as easy as that.  Ike was gracious enough to spend part of the day testing both Skype and Bluejeans and we agreed that Bluejeans is a better forum.

Here is a link to their video tutorials.

You guys don’t have to download the bluejeans app if you don’t want to – you can get into the meeting by the above steps.  But the Bluejeans rep I talked to said that if you are going to be doing it all the time then the app is easier.

I downloaded in onto my computer because I’ll be doing it at least weekly.  Bluejeans is a monthly subscription and I’m on a 14 day trial period so if today and this evening go well then I’ll buy it.  With your donation money of course and thanks again for that.

What I am shooting for is trying to see if I can get to the point where we have a Pitt football discussion and readers can listen to it real-time on the Pitt POV site like internet radio – and I think we can do that soon.

So what I’ll do right now is start a Bluejeans Pitt POV meeting with myself as the Moderator and I’ll leave it open while I write an actual football article for posting later this afternoon.

I will now post the meeting link with the unique ID # and then also post  call-in phone number with the unique call-in 10 digit code in the first comments block.

I’ll keep it up for an hour or two so that you guys can test it for your use during lunch if you want.  If all works well we’ll do a call-in show at 8:00 pm this evening. If I leave my desk for any reason I’ll put that in a comment also for when I leave and when I come back.

IT’S A BRAVE NEW WORLD BOYOs!!!

  4. msn.com has an article today ranking 130 Div 1 FB teams..(which is total BS as we all know at this time of the year)..Rated the PITT Panthers at #52- their main reason is too many missing parts on defense..(need that kind of cleansing in BB) To me that is a GOOD thing..but love how they refer to us as the Pitt Panthers…Go Phuck yourself Stevie Pederson-and you too Nordy…

  5. LOL BigB. Yeah I would rather PITT be ranked lower instead of higher and we really can’t blame the reasoning behind their ranking. According to that PITT is likely to overachieve this coming season.

  6. the issue is that there is very little time for all the newcomers to ease in. Heck, we even start with a DII finalist, followed by 2 teams who will likely be ranked in Top 10.

    then we go to GT.

  7. Those msn rankings might be the worst thing I have ever seen. Rutgers at 72? They lost their last 9 games by 400 points!?!?! And this team is improving? In what, ping pong? This might be the worst rankings I have ever seen. In their last 3 games they got outscored by 110 points by Michigan State, Penn State, and Maryland. And the big ten was lousy last season.

  8. lol big b – I will take Pitt anyday; worst rebranding ever!!! What an idiot.
The Big 10 is the greatest conference ever, just look at their bowl record. (sarcasm dripping).
Will the call in still be recorded for later listening? I’m gonna have to read the tutorials for days – I am that techno stupid. Thanks TT and Ike.
Reed if we are killing you, you will die happy. 🙂

    1. Thanks WLAT – wwb and one other alerted us as well. Reed is working on sending the golf outing details to all who responded in the past month or so. 10. That ranking makes for good fodder for tonight’s POV Round-table Call-In.

I’ll be starting the meeting at 7:45 or so and will post the meeting info on here in the comments.

I’ll be the Moderator and will have some basic questions for each participant, then we’ll get into some detailed discussions about the team, program and Athletic Department in particular.

I’ll record the audio part of the talks and post that in an article for tomorrow morning (the written article is about our 2017 LBs).

The main thing with this is you can come and go as you please and aren’t locked into anything Like I did with Brian over the weekend. Drop in – bullshit for a while and leave if you want to… or stick around and throw your two-cents in anytime.

Later I also want to do some one-on-one interviews with some willing POV’ers so that we know a little bit more about you than before.

  12. Six Panthers Ready for 2017 NFL Scouting Combine

The Panthers rank tied for sixth among all schools with six Combine participants.

PITTSBURGH—The National Football League’s version of a job fair, the annual Scouting Combine, begins today in Indianapolis and six Pitt players will be participating.

Offensive tackle Adam Bisnowaty, running back James Conner, offensive guard Dorian Johnson, tight end Scott Orndoff, quarterback Nathan Peterman and defensive end Ejuan Price will join more than 300 of the nation’s top college players at the combine for evaluation by executives, coaches, player personnel departments and medical staffs from all 32 NFL teams.

The Panthers’ six Combine invitees are the sixth most (tied) among all schools. The ACC ranks second among all conferences with 60 players at the Combine, trailing only the SEC (66).

The 2017 NFL Scouting Combine runs from February 28 through March 6. Live television coverage of the on-field workouts will be provided by the NFL Network from March 3-6.

Bisnowaty (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) was a first team All-ACC selection by league coaches as a junior and senior. A fixture on the Panthers’ offensive front, he made 43 starts during his career. In addition to his playing accolades, Bisnowaty was a four-time member of the All-ACC Academic Football Team.

Conner (Erie, Pa./McDowell) established himself as one of the greatest backs in school history, a contention that is reinforced by his impressive career production. Conner finished second at Pitt in all-time rushing yards (3,733), total touchdowns (56) and rushing touchdowns (52)—trailing only the legendary Tony Dorsett. He is the ACC’s career leader in both rushing and total TDs.

Perhaps no other player took a more remarkable path to the Scouting Combine. Over the past year, Conner overcame both Hodgkin lymphoma and a knee injury to return to the football field. He was a two-time first-team All-ACC performer and the 2014 ACC Player of the Year.

Johnson (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon Area) was a first team All-American as a senior, becoming the first Pitt offensive lineman to earn that status since 1994. He additionally was a first team All-ACC selection by the coaches and media. Johnson made 40 consecutive starts to finish his Pitt career (42 total).

Orndoff (Waynesburg, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) enjoyed one of the most productive seasons ever by a Pitt tight end, compiling 35 catches for 579 yards (16.5 avg.) and five touchdowns in 2016. Orndoff additionally was named to the All-ACC Academic Football Team for the third time.

Peterman (Jacksonville, Fla./Bartram Trail) was at the helm of the highest scoring offense in Pitt history (40.92 ppg.) as a senior. The ACC’s pass efficiency leader (163.4 rating), he completed 60.5% of his passes for 2,855 yards with 27 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. Peterman's 27 TD passes were the most by a Pitt quarterback since 2003 and rank fourth on the school single-season list. He was a 2016 All-ACC Academic Football Team honoree.

A two-time first-team All-ACC honoree, Price (Rankin, Pa./Woodland Hills) was one of the most disruptive defensive linemen in the nation. More than half of his total tackles in 2016 were behind the line of scrimmage.

Price led the ACC and ranked second nationally with 1.8 tackles for loss per game. On the year he totaled 45 tackles, 23 TFLs, 13 sacks, three forced fumbles, a blocked PAT and a tackle for a safety. He finished his career with 29.5 sacks, tied for fourth all-time at Pitt (with Aaron Donald, 2010-13).

This year’s NFL Draft will be held April 27-29 in Philadelphia.

NOTE: Pitt’s annual Pro Day will be held at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on March 22. Additional details and a schedule for the Panthers’ Pro Day will be forthcoming in the near future.

  15. Well, Ike and I had a grand time talking with each other for the last 50 minutes. I’ll try this Round-table a few more times but this takes a lot of time and effort on my part. You all said you wanted to do it… yet crickets..

Have to be honest – I’m pretty disappointed because it is very easy and fun for those who have called in so far.

  18. We Pitt fans have seen some questionable hires, especially recently. But the KS hiring has to rank IMO even worse than the Todd Graham hiring .. and if you read some of his post-game comments, he even bests Fraud in throwing his players under the bus (while, of course, raking in multi-year, million dollar salaries.)

He is allegedly an offensive genius, as he was again called last night by the GT coach. Yet, his team has one offense, shoot from the perimeter And when the shots aren’t falling, they have nothing else.

While I too thought his hiring was very suspect, I have been on the side of that he should have a few years to prove himself. But no more ….. this bozo has to go!!

  19. I highly doubt that Stallings goes anywhere anytime soon. He gets at least next year and probably more. He has corralled a nice recruiting class for next season and this years senior class has disappointed everyone. Including me. It is what it is. PITT can’t eat his contract and if they did how much money would they spend on the next BB coach? Not to mention, I would rather PITT spend the money on the PITT football program.. ike

  20. I don’t get it. I’m not a big Stallings supporter…..but I don’t understand the irrational thinking. The offense you’ve described wwb is not the offense he’s been calling all year – evident all year but finally confirmed during the presser last night. The players do what they want. The seniors have since they’ve been here. I think what is most frustrating to Stallings is that he knows if the players were fully committed to him and would buy in and give effort that we’d be in the tournament. But every game the other team clearly plays harder and gives max effort. You see spurts of it from Pitt but as soon as there is some sort of bump in the road they fold like a bunch of quitters. I get that the HC gets the blame – but the reality of it is that it wouldn’t matter who the coach was this year, if the players don’t buy in and care, the outcome would be the same. Do you think Calipari or Roy Williams would have this team over 20 wins? Doubt it. One thing they may have done is benched some of these guys for good – and that I would have supported. Would anyone on here be whining and complaining if we were 15-15 with Calipari as coach? Heck no – cause he doesn’t have his players. So why bash Stallings now? If we still suck in a couple years then it’s clear he’s not going to make it happen. But you can’t judge him now. You can’t make that call with the way these players are performing. And don’t tell me that the coach fails if he can’t do that. You can have the best teacher or professor in the world, but if the student doesn’t care to learn or have the desire to apply themselves, the teacher is going to look like a bad teacher because the results from the student are going to be poor because they don’t care. And a lot of these players have proven that they don’t care by the effort they’ve given.

    1. But this team is like an old record on automatic replay .. Play well in the 1st half and stick in the 2nd half. And I don’t see anyone not playing hard, the effort is there.

Yet, I keep seeing the same offense … passing on the perimeter, and if Artis or Jones drive to the hoop, then someone takes an outside shot. I see no low posts, no ball screens, very few assists and offensive rebounds. Yet, I saw this last year with the same players

      Like

      1. wwb, you know what else you don’t see? A true point guard and true center. Thus the no assists, low post play and rebounds. That makes sense to me for those 3 good reasons. What I do see is, sloppy play, turnovers and missed shots/bad shots.

  22. Reed, don’t be discouraged about last night. You picked a night that for me there were 2 important things to watch. As a patriotic American the Presidents address to Congress; and as a hard core Pitt fan the Pitt/GT game. Had both at the same time recording as I watched.

I will ask this to the readers -when would be best for an hour of your time to do a Round-table?

I was thinking an weekday evening but would something like Sunday afternoon or evening be better… I’ll take your advice on this. but as Ike says it really is simple and the audio recording is nice (no video visuals through.

  24. Maybe we can give Reed some ideas of some jumping off points. Some questions we may have or even some points of contention concerning the PITT football program…. things like that. I think having prearranged topics might work… or not? Remember Reed carries the program so he does all the hard work. Jump on for a few minutes and just listen or stay as long as you like/can. BONUS!!!! you get to watch a close-up Reed like 3 inches from you. He literally is in your face, like he gets in mine when I say something out of line.. :)… LOL!!!
