PSA: Charity TKTs to Pitt – Duke BB

I received a request from a gentleman in North Carolina who has two tickets for the Pitt vs Duke game at Cameron Stadium up for auction for charity – I said I’d help if I could.  Here is the info:

Mr. Kohberger,

My name is Fred Park and I am a part of a charity in Wrightsville Beach NC. Every year we have a benefit and I donate a pair of my tickets to a game at Cameron to watch the Duke Men’s team play.

This year I’m planning on donating my tickets to the January 20, 2018 game against Pitt. Final details need to be completed but the tickets will come with a gift certificate for a meal at the Washington Duke hotel which is near the stadium and parking.

In order to increase exposure and hopefully raise the most money for the charity, I was hoping to get some exposure on some Pitt sites. I came across your site and wanted to see if you would be willing to post the link to the auction when it is available. It would be a link to a bidpal item.

Thanks so much for your consideration. A game at Cameron is a special treat for a college basketball fan.

Maybe our southern brethren can do this…

Thank You

I want to write a few words here to follow on that last 2017’s season recap article. I made my decision pretty clear on here about the frequency of what content will go up on this blog and I want to clarify some issues.

First off I am not completely ‘taking down’ the POV.  I will keep it up for the BB season with game threads if I can remember to post them.  That way whoever wants to keep talking about Pitt sports on here can do so.

Secondly I will post some special articles that are timely – for instance Richman has asked me to use The POV as a survey venue for input into Pitt’s Fan Committee which he has been named to.  That sort of thing – public interest stuff – I’ll do if it is appropriate. But I will say that in anticipation of going into the offseason and the next season you should probably find another venue to enjoy.  I am not at all sure I’ll keep this going.

Let me explain how the straw that broke the back fell on my decisions.

In the last comments section there was mention of other Blogs to go to and there are some good ones, if you want good Pitt football coverage Chris Peak over at Rivals.com is the best and it is worth a subscription… however the only other “Blog” site I can endorse as not being in Pitt’s back pocket in some manner is The Pitt Blather.

Why is that?  Because, like the myself and the POV, Chas Rich isn’t in debt in any way to outside interests… and make no mistake all the others are in some way, shape or form however how small or large they are.

2017’s Regular Season De-Briefing

I say regular season because I’ll assume there is a slim to none chance we see a bowl date.  However, as much as I dislike the idea of a team with a losing record being “rewarded” with a bowl game (I’m very ‘old school’ on that count) there is no doubt in my mind we should take it.

For no other reason that 75% of the bowls mean relatively nothing anyway, are played solely for TV viewing, and Pitt needs the extra ACC-shared money we’d get from it. We’ll see what happens with that.

Now – lets breakdown the season and because Pitt always seems to save the best for last we’ll start with the ending first.

As you all know I feel very strongly that my role as the blog writer on here is to be a critic.  And that is meant in the true definition of the word as it applies to the addressing of the arts, politics, and now sports.  That also means I try to look at Pitt football and all that it encompasses without my fan’s blinders on – and make no mistake I am a Pitt football fan.

So with that in mind here is my take on this 2017 season. To recap: we now sit at 5-7 overall with the regular season finished.  All that is left for this Pitt team now is to sit and wait to see if we get the dregs of the bowl game invites.

Head Coach Pat Narduzzi started off his Pitt career with two consecutive 8 win seasons, identical 8-5 records, with two losses two bowl appearances. Because we lost key players from our 2016 squad – including QB Nate Peterman, whose SR season goes down as one of the best Pitt QBs have ever had, along with two great offensive lineman and 2/3s of our defensive starters we all knew we were in for a negative dip this year.

However not to many Pitt fans felt we’d be ending up with a losing season – I think most of us predicted along the lines of my preseason thoughts of a 7-5 or at the very least 6-6 regular season record.  There were of course the outliers either way with a few fans thinking we’d have 10+ wins and on the flip side some stating we’d drop down to 4-5 wins.

Miami Game Day Thread and Predictions

OK guys and gals, here is your place for Pitt -Miami game predictions.  I’ll start.

I’m down here in NC and every year we do a pool for the Thanksgiving weekend Top 25 games.  I picked Pitt to lose tomorrow and my cousins couldn’t believe it… They feel I’m disloyal, but as I said to them ” Hey, I know this team…”

So, on that note I think Miami is in different talent level and that will show as the second half goes on.

Miami 35 – Pitt 17

I’ll be rooting my guts out though…
