Input Needed for FB Downtime

Guys can you please try to think of some of the topics you would like to have articles written about while we have all this time in between now and the bowl game and then again until the spring practices start.

I think I’ll do a quick series on departing senior starters and what their careers were like individually and of course I’m going to do one on our defense and what kind of coaching changes we may or may not see after the bowl game.

I also think I’ll do a few Pitt FB history ones.  I do want to keep trying to post one article a day if possible, but it really is kind of hard to come up with something that’s going to be worth writing and then also worth reading and commenting on…

The ball is in your court.

Speaking of balls and courts if anyone wants to chip in and write a basketball article or two or maybe even weigh in on the Pitt Administration or coaching or whatever you want to write about please do.

I want to share some of the load here if possible so if you don’t have my email address here it is:

rkohberger@gmail.com

…and you can just drop me the draft article in an email and and if I feel like it’s something our readers would like I’ll clean it up and put some visual stuff in it then I’ll posted it.

That way you too can call other people ingrates under your breath like I do.

POV’s Monday Morning QB

As I said in the podcast yesterday – it was a strange game to watch.  It is also a strange game to try to dissect for MMQB.  Let’s start with the positives first:

POSITIVES:

* Nate Peterman’s efficiency in passing.   For only throwing 18 passes he had one of the best days I can remember from a Pitt QB.  Here is his box score:

Game of Thrones

First off let’s congratulate Matt Canada and his offense – scoring 76 points in a single ball game is damn impressive. So – good for you.

This is a bit late in posting but in all honestly I wasn’t all that happy with the way things turned out yesterday and, even with a regular season-ending win, I feel disappointed.

Some fans just care about the Ws and Ls and I can understand that in part. Those tick marks will be the historical record that goes in the books for later when we talk about past seasons.

POV Game Day Thread; Syracuse

Here we are in the last Saturday of the regular season and this game is not looking like it’s going to surprise anyone. At least it doesn’t feel that way.

Let’s hope Pitt plays to form today against Syracuse.  If so will have our eighth win on the season to match the winning total of last year, something that clearly shows progress from 2015.

We had our predictions posted  yesterday… I didn’t see anyone picking Syracuse to win so it’s pretty much a sure bet we’re going to take this game.  Then again we’re talking about Pitt football and there isn’t a college team anywhere who is so good as to not lose a football game given the right circumstances…right Clemson?

We won’t see that today. I think we’ll pull out a good win and get us on the road to preparing for a good Bowl showing unlike Navy last season.

And hopefully we can send James Connor out of Heinz Field with rousing ovations of genuine thanks at the end of this game, his last one at home.  Although Aaron Donald did return for his fourth year… remember?

Let’s hear what you guys have to say as things unfold.

HTP !!!

POV’s Prediction Thread; Syracuse

Damn, we wait seven months over the off-season for Fall Camp to start – then it does and then it and the regular season go by in the blink of an eye.  We are almost at that point tomorrow when at the end of 60 minutes of play against Syracuse at Heinz Field we start the long wait again.  With a break for the bowl game of course.

But we still have that last regular season game to play against a long-time Pitt opponent.  Syracuse, even with its less than good record shouldn’t be taken lightly. They can beat us just like we can beat anyone in the nation.

We’ll see if the SOP (Same Old Pitt) curse has that last nail beaten down to trap it in its coffin tomorrow.  I think it will but any long time Pitt fan will tell you we always tend to win one game we shouldn’t (Clemson!!) and lose one we should have won… that is the outcome that’s missing this season.

Miami and VA Tech were both legitimate teams to have bested the Panthers on those days we played.  Actually so is Syracuse but give that we are major overbitches (as opposed to “underdogs”) then a loss would feel like a SOP moment.  I don’t really feel that SOP is present, I feel it is in hiatus while Narduzzi is HC here, and we’ll pull this one out for our 8th win.

What Pitt POV is Thankful For…

First off I am thankful that we have a following on here who are well-versed in all the aspects of college football and in Pitt football particularly.  Add to that the fact that we  love to dissect and discuss that subject, with all its many pros and cons, in a civil and respectful manner and it is the best of the best.

I thank each and every one of you all for that.

We have a university that we are proud of in all ways, not just by the wins and losses we garner out on the field of play.  Our university is so much more than just that.  Pitt does things the right way, even if it means starting over again with new head coaches or disciplining our players in ways that better both themselves and the team. Making the correct decisions isn’t easy sometimes but Pitt gets it right way more often than not.

I thank the Pitt administration for that and Pat Narduzzi specifically.  Regardless of how I choose to weigh the good, bad and indifferent about his football coaching duties to me his real mission at Pitt is to be the leader of 100+ young kids and young men and to set examples they can emulate both when they are at Pitt and into their future lives.

POV’s Know The Enemy: Syracuse

Here are the Game Notes from Pitt for Saturday’s match.

OK – final game of the regular season and one we need to win to set us up for a possible progression in the win column from last year’s eight. Get this one and win a bowl game and we are at nine wins and sitting pretty for the future.

Syracuse is in the Atlantic Division of the ACC and has an overall record of 4-7 with a 2-5 ACC mark. The Orangemen are old Big East conference brothers and we have played them since 1916 – the year Dr. Tom was born.

Here is a small piece out of those game notes above:

SERIES NOTES
Pitt and Syracuse have met every year since 1955…Pitt holds a 37-31-3 advantage in the all-time series, which began in 1916…the Panthers have won 10 of the past 11 games against the Orange and 12 of the past 14…Pitt won last year in the Carrier Dome, 23-20, on a 25-yard Chris Blewitt field goal as time expired…

in the last game played at Heinz Field, the Panthers routed the Orange, 30-7, in 2014…Syracuse’s last win in the series was in 2012, a 14-13 decision in the Dome, which snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Panthers..

.the 2012 encounter marked the final Big East game between the two schools…Pitt and Syracuse met 20 times as Big East members from 1993-2012 and the Orange owned an 11-9 edge in those contests…Pitt has won all three ACC meetings (2013-15)…

So – what has SYR done this year that is impressive?  Well for one they beat Virginia Tech who beat us in a nail biter game 39-36.  That SYR win, 31-17 over the Hokies was unexpected and gave them their 3rd win versus 4 losses.
