Good morning Jay and btw, I was kidding with the “grounded” comment, my point was I feel you ain’t selling those tickets, you’ll be at the psu game.
Decent to good = not being embarrassed. Considering how most of you feel just watching a good game for once seems impossible. I happen to really like this young team and the way they play, faults and all. …. and there are plenty of them. If the shots go down PITT can hang with this VT team.
Upitt, I expect more than the 4,000 this game. and another btw to you. It wasn’t me that bet you on the Carter issue but he did stay longer than you predicted and really didn’t cause much trouble that we know of. (although I think he was one of the Miami 7)
But I’m really starting to question my sanity- paying THOUSANDS of dollars and driving HUNDREDS of miles to watch this stuff. If Pitt doesn’t care, why should I?
Call me crazy but I don’t think the sky is falling….in football. Now in basketball, if Stallings turns this ship around they should do a movie or ESPN special about it..hate to say it but can’t see any way this gets turned around on his watch and without the Administration making the commitment that they didn’t make when Jamie Dixon moved on.
I think Pitt can win this game. This is not a good VT Team. Not the usual Buzz product. Probably the only team in ACC that is beatable. Go Panthers! Sad about Stallings brother. Feel for him today.
“For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy,
Now I will arise,” says the Lord;
“I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.” Ps. 12:5 might fit…
When this game gets out of hand, you can watch the Army Bowl with all the best HS Players. So many Pitt recruits…. oh wait…no Pitt recruits…never mind!
IMO that was one of the problems of the last couple of years under Dixon. There seemed to be little of that. It seemed like cuts to the lane were little more than paths to the arc. Robinson was solid but he was not much of a drive and dish guy.
I wouldn’t blame the refs. Blame the Pitt administration for allowing “Barnes” to happen.
Pitt starts the ACC 0-3 with all three loses by double digits.
If you are a Pitt basketball fan, what do you do? It is hard to watch.
KS did call a timeout with 45 seconds left and Pitt down 12. Why, I have no clue? Maybe Heather told him he needs to start using TO’s or he won’t get an extension to his contract.
I’m thinking it was the difference of 11 turnovers that determined the outcome rather than the difference of 7 fouls. I know that Illegomah and Chukwuka deserved their 7 fouls.
It is time we renegotiate Stalling’s contract. I think he would settle for a bit less. Recruits see what is going on. There is no hope our coaching staff will be able to bring in good players.
Bring me a Hurley, Rutgers’ coach, Brandon Knight, and above all, Slice.
here’s what I got from that game … Curly can actually grow hair!
shows whats goof he is. He was content on shaving his head all time and looking like … Curly.
(either that , or he is the new president for The Hair Club for Men)
Way easy question isnore. There are two things that immediately should happen. 1. You extend the coach contract another 10 years. 2. You have a parade, like the Browns.
I am going to post an optimistic post. Well it will be pessimist/optimist (sort of like passive/aggressive mold mind you).
I do not expect them to win a single ACC game this year. With that said I am looking at their heart, desire and growth.
Dan72 I will not argue with you on whether they can grow from this point. I will defer to your experience, but as many posters point out to me on previous threads…What else can I do?
I have to hope you are wrong with your analysis just this one time and that somehow these kids can be coached up and become a viable product.
Otherwise Pitt in all big sports will continue to make this the Winter of my discontent.
Note I have a totally different attitude to b-ball than I do Football. I have hopes that there is a better chance of turning this program around as opposed to the 30+ years of football futility.
So given it’s been 3 or so years of bad b-ball, I am willing to give them a bit more time (not 27 more years mind you) to figure it out.
After all, isn’t that what being a Pitt fan (Charlie Brown) is all about?
If this did not sound optimistic, it’s the best I got at this point 🙂
Dave, not sure that Pitt was “bad” in 2015-2016. They made the NCAA tourney and lost their first game by 4 to a higher seeded team (Wisconsin) that went to the Sweet SIxteen (beating a #2 seed in the round of 32). Unfortunately it may be years before we see that kind of “bad” again.
Yeah I was guessing at 3 years. It just feels longer I guess than 2 years. Right now, it feels like it’s been 10 years.
I think a part of it is that I was seeing how it was starting to unravel and Jamie Dixon wrt recruiting. I always would be on the phone with my brother talking about how Dixon’s not bringing in a PG and that it was soon going to bite Pitt in the butt.
so I agree…it just feels so much longer than it really has been.
Dave…. I am very optimistic about Pitt Football as we have a very special QB, a HC who is no longer an apprentice, and some very good skill players returning.
I wish I was wrong about Pitt B-ball but each one of these freshman had an obvious flaw in talent or they would not have been available to Pitt. 7 others with talent turnedKS down.
KS is an above average floor coach and teacher but the hatred toward him is palpable and unchangeable. He is a dead man walking with AAU…. not a good thing. Best thing Pitt could do is buy him out immediately. No one of any talent will come to Pitt as long as he is here.
I enjoyed the the lack of self awareness exhibited by Stallings in this quote in the PG this morning “Believe me, the last thing I wanna do is be starting five freshmen. I would like to be starting five seniors, but I don’t have five seniors…” No, but he did start 4 seniors last year with a RS sophomore, with a junior as first man off the bench. Somehow still finished below .500 overall with 4 conference wins.
Barvo – KS is just making stuff up to fill out his media obligations required by the university.
Look, he called a time out today with 45 seconds left in the game and his team down 12 points. Makes no sense. He is just going through the motions and we Pitt fans have to watch if we want to root for our team.
Too bad that redshirt sophomore took his ball and went to Carolina. And after so much talk about the Johnson family stressing academics and Cam ends up at a Blue Blood that has offered fake classes for decades.
Those four seniors played a huge part in the losses last season. This season is going to suck, but I like what I’m seeing from the freshmen and we just have to hope Ellison can contribute.
That wasn’t really the point. The point was that he had 4 seniors just last season and yet somehow couldn’t coach them to perform either.
Johnson graduated from Pitt. Why should he stay for a season that is “going to suck”? Would you personally be that noble if you had any remarkable skills? Whatever you may think of UNC, it remains a perennial Top 10 public university.
You’re entitled to your opinion regarding the seniors last year. However they never lost like that until KS came to town. He was very well paid to make them play together and motivate them to play hard. He is the one accountable and he failed in historic fashion (worst home loss in ACC history, 2nd worst loss in Pitt history, worst conference winning percentage in 40 years, first sub .500 record in 17 years).
It’s still early in conference play, but the only freshman that have played well 3 games in are Stewart and Stephenson. We’ll see how it plays out the group over 16 games.
Ellison wasn’t good at St. John’s. There’s no reason to believe he’ll be any better in the ACC playing with freshmen and sophomores, but by all means…
Those seniors were lost without Robinson distributing the ball to them, and Young/Artis sure as hell had no prayer at making their teammates better. Cam had the chance to be the man for two years and didn’t want it. No problem, but that transfer was 100 percent a basketball decision and had nothing to due with academics as told by the family.
No offense, but I’m not going to believe you know anything about Ellison and how he is progressing and how much he’ll contribute when eligible. Transfers usually don’t work out, so that is why I’m hoping he can actually help his teammates.
Had 2 years at UPJ. Big campus of over 650 acres. And two years in Pittsburgh.
The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown offers a positive learning atmosphere and an outstanding record of student success. Pitt-Johnstown was founded in 1927, and is the first and largest regional campus of the University of Pittsburgh.
The announcer said it best when Robinson sliced to the basket for a nice layup. “That’s the difference between a jr point guard and a freshman point guard”
Did Reed slip in a prediction, a rumor, or a gut feeling?
I want to root for these guys as plucky underdogs…but unfortunately they’re just hard to watch. So many mistakes, so many limitations, it’s just frustrating to watch this team right now.
These kids could be Seniors and wouldn’t win 25% of the games in the ACC.
If you know Stallings isn’t the answer (His entire career has been below average) why keep him another day? Rip off the bandaid and make a statement and commitment. It would be a joke to get 4M to give him to go retire and move his 1 bedroom apartment back to Nashville. He is collecting a check like most 65 year olds.
UPitt, it isn’t worth wasting a word on the basketball program, other than the cost of buying out Stalling’s contract. Also let’s line up the new staff. Rutgers coach interests me. He could bring Brandon Knight home with him; Hurleys, either Bobby or Dan. I also want Slice.
Why not Kevin WIllard? He’s made Seton Hall competitive again. He’s a Pitt alumnus. He’s young. He’s experienced in a quality conference. The only “bad” thing I see is his relationship to the last dark days of Pitt basketball.
My feeling is that HCPN is going for broke to make this upcoming season a success, a season with a schedule of really tough games. Malcontents not wanted. All out effort. Hopefully he succeeds.
So, yesterday morning KDKA news noted that Duquesne and Robert Morris would both be trying to remain undefeated in conference play today. No mention of Pitt-VT.
Anyway, Duquesne and Robert Morris both won today to remain undefeated in conference. Duquesne beat Fordham by 23. WVU beat Fordham by 17 in Morgantown a couple of days before Christmas.
Watched BC beat WF today. Watched GT beat Miami the other day. Watching NC State beating Duke at the moment. Pitt has BC, WF, GT and Duke coming up at home, but I don’t see them winning any of those games.
Just first and foremost want to thank Coach Fisher for giving me a opportunity at Florida state. The relationships I have built there will be ever lasting. But I am proud to announce I’ll be joining Coach Pruitt’s Staff at Tennessee! Let’s get to work! pic.twitter.com/uZrAJw1DjV
Stallings buyout is to big to eat until the end of year 3. It drops to 4 million then. Still a hit, But make the best of it until then. Who knows, Pitt may be OK by then. Plus Pitt will have to pony up for a new coach and by then coach K, Williams and Jimmy B will be gone. Pitt could be decent next year.
Decent. Are you kidding me Chet. There is little to no talent on this roster. Teams don’t play against us for 30 minutes(out of 40) and still win by double digits.
