  1. I’m guessing the more athletic and more resourceful QB leads his team to a win. So clearly I favor Duke to win this one. Maybe 31-20.

Would love to see Slovis outplay their guy, but going to be tough…. Unless maybe we finally have gotten to the portion of Coach Cig’s playbook with some plays for a certain TE??? And a certain “fullback”…

    Go Pitt.

  2. The only reason I’m giving Pitt the edge is because of the front 7 D playing so much better the last couple of games. I really like the combo of Dennis and Wiltz at LB because of the speed and their very quick reaction to the plays called. But I have nightmares when i think about Slovis behind center. Pitt 27 Duke 14

  3. Pitt women’s soccer hung on to win 2-1 to advance to the next round of the NCAA championship tournament.

Prediction: Pitt jumps to an early lead by pounding the warm weather dookies on a very cold, frigid day with a hard turf. Halftime score is 21-7

Duzz goes conservative – Sauls makes 2 of 3 FG’s in the 2nd half to hold on and win 27-24.

    Go Pitt!

  4. Pitt loses by one touchdown. Slovis does not throw a touchdown pass the whole game. Duke 21 Pitt 14.

Way to go Pitt’s women’s soccer! Advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in their first tournament appearance. Pitt goalkeeper was hurt late in the game and had to be replaced with the backup.

  5. Low scoring cold and breezy weather conditions favoring our running backs>> 24-14. Both quarterbacks have difficulty with the weather with many dropped passes. Pitt’s offense will be a snoozefest as Cignetti goes ultra-conservative.

  6. Thinking the pressure of a great follow-up season is gone so for sure we are going to play loose and better.

    Pitt 34
    Duke 24

BTW, anybody going the game in Miami?

  7. A clear Pitt win as the defense continues its great play, Slovis has his best game with 2TD passes and no int’s, Izzy tops 100 again, Bart gets 4 catches and runs over a Dukie, and Bub continues his recent improved play with no drops and 6 catches, including a TD. We win turnover battle by 2 and win the game 34-10.

  8. I tend to agree with pittdad2. But the cold weather may interfere with the 2 passing TD scenario, and I look for a defensive gem with Pitt forcing 2 turnovers. Slovis provides a serviceable 15-20 passing day, and the running game gets the job done. My prediction: 27 – 17 Pitt.

  9. An average Arizona/Southern Cal /QB dude in the wind, snow and cold? PITT beats the Dukes with their defense.

    PITT … 35
    Duke….17

  10. Temps around freezing and 15 mph winds…got the Dookies right where we want em…Tough D and a strong running game rule the day.
    27-17 the good guyz.

  11. I have Pitt winning 24-21 same as Erie but if ever a game was Pitt’s to lose it’s this one with Duke. 80% calling for a Pitt win. Usually that’s doom for Pitt.

  12. Pitt VB down 6 in third set getting schooled by Louisville. Just a much better team tonight. So BB gets beat last night, VB tonight what else could go wrong tomorrow??

    1. Well Dan, the Pitt women’s BB team plays Duquesne tomorrow at 6:00. Usually a tough game for Pitt to win…

I expect these “Dukes” to take good advantage of our lack of a center. Can Pitt have two good shooting games in a row???

      Go Pitt.

        1. Unfortunately for the Pitt women’s BB team, Duquesne has two 6-4 centers and one of them is pretty good. Our tallest player is 6-2…

          Go Pitt.

  13. Pitt loses last set 25-18.

I know little about volleyball but have come to enjoy our Pitt ladies team.
Having been in many basketball tourneys this blowout loss may be a good thing. It’s out of our system and makes this team realize how precious each game is. Better it happen here than in the NCAAs !

But what scares me is how Louisville dominated every phase of this game. Annie? John?

    1. Yes, L’ville did dominate in every phase. I have never seen them look so bad for 3 sets. No energy, horrible passing, hitting into blocks. I saw a guy who works for the vb team at the football game today and asked him what the he** happened to the team last night. He said they had a very up and down week of practice, so maybe it was not unexpected. It was a can of whoop a$$. Hopefully they will be better on Wednesday or they will lose the chance to be ACC co-champions.

  14. Duke football has always played a weight class under PITT. The Panthers are too physical for the Blue Devils once again. Slovis will continue to improve and the Panthers will pound the Duke football team into submission. PITT 27-17.

  15. Sounds like we’re set up for a terrible Pitt sports weekend, losing recruits left and right, WVB getting destroyed so keeping with my previous prediction . . . .

Duke wins 31-23, the weather is a push with our Cali QB.

Once Duke hits the 30+ mark, turn out the lights the parties over.

  16. I really hope Duke can’t score for whatever reason, as we won’t win a shootout. Look for a low scoring game with Duke pulling out a 20-16 win. Ya, I know , we won’t win a low scoring game either. Aren’t I just a bundle of joy?

  17. I’ve watched a lot of Pitt volleyball this year and last. And while I consider myself a novice at understanding the game, it isn’t hard for me to analyze. Pitt looked very flustered to start, and was never able to get any momentum in the match. They were thoroughly outplayed. Louisville is very good. Pitt is capable of playing at their level, as we did earlier in the season, but if I recall, Louisville’s best player was out for that match. Not a technical analysis, I know. Simply put, it was an uncharacteristically poor performance against an excellent opponent. A bad recipe.

    1. Eric, I watched the match and agree the ladies just couldn’t get it going and Louisville played a great game…just wasn’t their night…that happens in sports. On to the play-offs…..

  18. Random, but 2 of the top 3 Heisman QB finalists played against Pitt.. Hooker from TN and the NC qb.
Also Pitt wins 77 to 13. It’s true. I saw it at the bottle of this bottle of alcohol..

  19. Pitt wrestling list to Maryland 18-16 in last night’s home opener. Several freshmen beat our guys to pull an upset.

Our 125 guy was up big point-wise and ended up getting pinned. At 157, our guy was up 7-1 and lost in OT.

    Pitt faces #13 Lehigh next.

Underwhelming start – FB needs to save the weekend – women’s soccer started with a win yesterday afternoon, and now we need Duzz & Cig to lead our fighting Panthers to victory.

    1. Lost not list –

The dark chill in the air this morning screams that the best run game wins today.

You could not dial up a better weather forecast for a Pitt victory today. The crowd will probably be light with the windchill being in the teens.

Does that mean we throw the ball and sit Izzy?

I saw Lastrow & Wolf last night and their vehicles were packed and ready for tailgating at 7am today.

I’m hoping Duzz has the team equally prepared for today’s game.

      Go Pitt!

  20. If anyone’s counting that’s 4 recruits lost in the last month with zero new commits. The Minchey bail out and the Cignetti sleep walking offense may result in many more offensive recruits and transfers over the next several months.

  21. Just catching up on some of the back and forth here from the past few days…

VCU has a well-run program. Mike Rhodes is a great coach. Pitt’s loss to them is not a bad one. Do I understand that Hugely did not play?.. assume that’s an injury?

Regarding scheme of the FB team… certainly respect and understand the views of those wanting RPO or a pass-happy O, but I don’t think its the X’s & O’s this year. Its the Jimmies and Joes.

Richard – another great read on the matchup. Ever make the drive (and hike) up to Clingman’s Dome from Cherokee? Outstanding views on a clear day.

Regarding the recent decommits. Not all are created equal. Some – like a Kenny Minchey – are unexpected and a painful loss. Others aren’t really a loss, but rather a recruit reacting to a signal from the coaching staff that they may go elsewhere with the spot. Its unfortunately a tough game. You won’t get the insight on which is which here.

Still processing the UVA FB situation down here in Central Virginia. Surreal to have been there Saturday at the game and then learn of what happened. The killer was located about a mile from my office and he grew up in public housing.

I have to sit out today’s game in Pgh unfortunately. Instead, I will be at a Division III playoff game between our local Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets (Ashland, VA) and SUNY Cortland, the former being the reigning Div II MBB National Champs. The latter apparently has a high powered offense and is the alma mater of one Joe Starkey.

As for today’s game… Duke has been quite the surprise this year. Good HC hire and an emerging threat at QB. They went head to head with the Heels earlier in the season and should have won the game if not for a really tickey-tacky chop block call when it was almost certain they’d put the game away. If Pitt can contain the QB, I like our chances. Izzy and Rodney pound it.

    1. JoeL – Thanks. Been to Clingman’s dome. Your right about the view. I also have been to Mt. Mitchell. Only thing I really remember of that visit was the temperature. Left SC when it was expected to be in the upper 90’s (after a week of upper 90’s). Car temp in parking lot was 67.

  22. Pitt is hosting a much better WR prospect today. Fowler was an early commit who never took that jump as a senior. Reading he was timed at a 4.7 40.

I don’t think the coaches are thrilled with the WR room on the roster and are trying to improve it dramatically. Pitt will be luring Cam Brown from Auburn after he hits the portal at season’s end. Hoping the local safety, Davis, who went to LSU is also on the radar.

    1. Hard to lure any offensive player to play in the Cignetti offense IMO. I’d like to recruit for most any school when having to ompete for an offensive player against Pitt today.

  23. I’m glad I picked the Syracuse game to come in. It could have been this one. Cuse weather was perfect although I was told I missed peak by about a week.

I don’t expect the Pitt offense to score more than 25. Dukes QB is a runner and that creates a bad matchup. Pitts D will need to win the day with a late stop or turnover. I don’t expect much from Slovis.

  24. Pitt 31-27. I’m here in Durham and I’ll tell you that weather won’t make a difference. It’s been cold here for a week. Sure, not Pittsburgh cold, but not enough difference to matter.

  25. All else being equal depth probably makes the difference here

    Pitt has more of it

So unless Dukes qb runs wild, Pitt wins by 6

  26. Baldonado dressed along with Huoy but Hammitt from the Lair thinks neither will be playing today because of injury. FWIW Hayes is back in uniform for the game today. I don’t think that was expected by many at this time. Just the fact Narduzzi has let him back on the field with the team has me startled to say the least.

  27. Interesting to hear the Wake coach say that you don’t know who has already made NIL offers to your players, I wonder who offered Bart if the rumors are true. Sad for the “integrity” of the game.

  28. NIL low ball offers could go out to many on the Pitt team this year. Especially on the offensive side with Bart being on the top of the list. I’m hoping Slovis gets a NIL offer but that is probably asking too much.
