Days ago. A blind monkey knew this would know he was buying his time. Narduzzi hires Sgt. Shultz ( A lifetime LB Coach from the powerhouse Northwestern) of course he was jetting. Not to mention his other weak hire from the MAC. Charlie was collecting a check until he gets with a powerhouse that doubles his salary and or gets him back in line for a HC. Bama will take him for his Florida connections. Pat has more turnover than McDonalds.
So if KS gets another 2 years which is the latest word, Pitt is probably thinking the following:
1. Dont have the buyout money (estimated at $10M)
2. Attendance will improve substantially (20% capacity to 80%)
3. Basketball is not important to Pitt’s overall brand image. (We are a football school)
4. Wont be able to get a qualified coach to walk into this mess (no bird in hand)
5. KS has some elite recruits with high potential waiting to sign (???)
6. KS will suddenly turn things around and get to the tourney (wishful thinking)
Pitt couldn’t get a 3rd rate coach to come here after Dixon left because the cupboard was so bare (that & Pitt being so cheap). Thus, they figure that KS has to recruit at least some bodies over the next 2 years so any prospective new coach with an IQ bigger than Barne’s hat size will consider coming here.
They can’t fire KS after the season because the new coach wouldn’t have enough good players to beat Duquesne’s girl’s team. Enjoy next season fellas….
We will never know if Pitt could have gotten someone good to come here. Here is the story as I understand it…. Pitt usez search firm who recommends Barnes. Barnes either decided he doesn’t like it here or truly wants to go back west due to family health issues Pitt/Barnes uses same search firm to replace Dixon, while search firm is also looking for AD for Oregon State. Search firm tells Barnes if you take Stallings to Pitt we will recommend you for the Oregon State AD job. All very tidy. There was no legitimate coaching search to replace Dixon. Barnes done Pitt dirty.
This is what you get with a no power no name unqualified AD. Exactly what Gallagher wanted he got. Demphasize sports with a Safe PC Hire. Makes me sick.
Pitt is a stepping stone. Should have made Partridge the DC. Bama can pay assistants of assistants more money than Pitt pays for head coaches. Bama makes nearly $100M in revenues each year on football and pays out a ton to its coaches. Pitt makes maybe $20M each year and pays out no more than $5M. Saban alone nearly makes twice that.
This AARP Rockport Salesman would take 4M taxed up or I’d fire him. It takes a team with balls and heart to make deals and rid us of him. Not a compliance parrot.
No doubt we don’t have enough athletic coin to swallow a $10M buyout.
I do think our record in the ACC will improve next year as we are bound to play a team beset by either injuries or the flu. Moreover, all it takes is one win. Dumb luck could help with that.
As for CP moving on to Alabama, I’m sure HCPN has another recruiting whiz lined up to replace him. Good thing he ain’t going anywhere for seven more years. It’s stability like this that makes us SOP.
Heather-the-Presenter is not going to jeopardize her award-giving gig by dropping 10 large to dump Rockport only to find out the only warm body interested in the job is under FBI investigation.
Alabama: Charlie Partridge (Pitt DL), Lance Thompson (South Carolina DL), Eric Henderson (asst DL with the Chargers) and Travis Jones (former Seahawks DL coach) are all in the mix for the defensive line job at Alabama reports Matt Zenitz of AL.com.
I believe the $$$ (10 million) is a very DISTANT 2nd to the current DESTROYING of the Pitt brand that is taking place with this national joke of a basketball team and season. IMO if Pitt does not fire Stallings at seasons end, athletics as we know it at Pitt, is OVER.
So a coach gets an interview at Bama and that portends to major issues in the program….really? And yet he tweeted he is looking forward to the spring game here. Do those other programs have issues as well as their coaches are also being interviewed. It is an interview nothing more.
Am I still covering? 21.5. Jut landed in Charlotte. Now if aincan get my Dad Emel to come have a drink with me in the Hilton downtown. Hard to get him out of SC these days.
With Pitt up 1 at the half I would normally say that the 21.5 doesn’t look to good for you Upitt. I wouldn’t pay the bookie just yet after all it is Pitt BB
Steve – I’m getting 21.5 and up 1 so up 22.5. If these bums don’t cover while getting 21.5 they should shut down the program and send the kids to Bulgaria.
Hamilton sat out two of his best players for over a half and KS still, managed to coach them to a double didgit loss. Grated Dixon left him with an empty cupboard, but these players belong to him. He had an ACC team to sell to recruits where playing time was available and look what he brought in.
I am also tired of hearing how he lost his best player, Luther for the season. I like Luther, but if he is your best, you have problems. He is a nice roll player, but not a foundation, and he obviously did something to chase Johnson away.
If we need to pay him out. Let him sell peanuts and popcorn for the next couple years and maybe he will quit, or his buddy can hire him out west.
Pitt Athletics is soft and takes on the persona of their AD, Chancellor and BoT. They are all soft because they all put up with this garbage.
If you are Partridge, you take the DC hire personally that it wasn’t you and you begin to make a plan for your next move. You now know what your boss thinks of you. Only Pitt football would hire a DC to start recruiting Texas. FLORIDA!!! Go to FLORIDA!!! Who knows FLORIDA the best Partridge.
Sounds like a brilliant move to take the guy with the best connections in FLORIDA and alienate him. Does our AD have a strategy? Did she talk this through with the head coach before the hiring decision was finalized on DC?
Dumb, dumber and dumbest (BoT, Chancellor and AD). The coachest are the dumberestest.
Agree. Embarrassing and predicted. Stallings and Buffoon Narduzzi. Most Texans would never go to PA. They want Big 12 and SEC. Sgt Shultz is a LB Coach lifer. Stupid cronyism. Big 10 garbage. Narduzzi is so thick headed.

so what’s the big deal? Pitt lost Partridge before .. after the 07 season to Wisconsin. And lost the DC (Rhoads) to Auburn at the same time. And Wanny hired Bennett and moved Gattuso to DL, and also 4 other new coaches …. and moved on.
I do agree it would have been a disadvantage now because HCPN would have to find someone so late when some southern schools have already started with spring ball. But sadly, this is life at Pitt. Why you people here aren’t used to it is beyond me.
Yes, a point I have been trying to make to you for a while now ….. it’s the Jimmies and the Joes. Yet, you shamelessly picked on Conklin the last 2 years.
According to the New York Times, Saban’s ten assistant coaches will make a combined $6.5 million in 2017, bringing the entire payroll for the coaches alone to $17.7 million.
and that was last year. I’d venture to say the entire Pitt staff including HC doesn’t approach $6.5M
Partridge is fine with being a position coach for now. Maybe he likes the area and Pitt. If the DL becomes a very good unit, he will have opportunities down the road. Hill just went to the Dolphins. Coaches have different wants each year. He may want to be a head coach and will wait for the best opportunity. He also saw Canada pad his wallet but he is now at Maryland. What if he stinks at MD. Maybe doesn’t want the grind of a Florida or Bama job right now. Who knows. .
Maybe he just didn’t get the offer. Saban would have offered if he was in on some solid 4 and 5 stars now, not three years from now. Head coaches use their assistants, which is fine. Herban is using Schianno and vice versa. Saban is losing the defensive line recruiting battles to OSU right now and Saban understands that is where the games are won and lost. It’s not about how you coach, it’s how you recruit. Partridge must not have any 4 or 5 star prospects he can get.
I still don’t know why we don’t have a full time coach in flurrrrida during the winter months, through spring ball. Who wouldn’t want that detail while it is cold and grey. We should be buying billboards near schools and major airports. We should be buying sunshine network ads for Sunday mid-mornings. During the season we should have our games telecast there as wvu does on root. And the coaches show, press conferences, etc.
Winning isn’t hard. You need to find the personnel that will work harder and won’t be beat by the average people in the business. In any business, including recruiting.
My point was he isn’t leaving Pitt due to any dissatisfaction. He likes it here and down the road he may go. He was a head coach, he understands the decision making process. Plus he will have a lot of say on what the D runs this year.
Chet, believe what you want about dissatisfaction. Narduzzi and Partridge will say all the right things about how much he loves pittsburgh and that he wasn’t looking and Alabama called him. I am wondering who leaked the interviewing. Saban will get 4 guys a raise and the 5th will accept the job. Reality of the situation is that Partridge was a HEAD COACH! He got passed over for a DC position with a top 50-60 program. If you are a competitor, you are dissatisfied with that choice. Actually and perhaps more importantly, Pitt should be disappointed that he was not picked for the internal DC position. If he is not ready to be a DC when he was already a HC, what’s missing?
His best chance at another head coaching job is thru a DC position or thru a job with Saban, Meyer, etc. I just don’t think he was in on the 4 and 5 star d-line that are required in those programs.
I do like Partridge. I don’t like that the DC and the OC are old friends. That is not good. I would want a DC that is accountable to the OC and vice versa. Challenge each others unit, not go out and have a beer to discuss things, sorry.
I don’t see where the recruits Partridge is on now would be at all relevant. If he’s a good recruiter he would certainly have a better chance with more elite recruits while employed by Bama.
And how do we know Partridge can be a good DC? Plenty of evidence that being a HC and being a top DC are way different jobs…
I see Charlie stayed and some who were bashing Pitt are now still bashing the program even though Narduzzi kept him. Being miserable is no way to go through life.
So any news that looks to be negative is unique to Pitt. Really coaches leave all the time. Rosters are always in flux at P5 programs. Partridge likes Pitt, huh who knew. Good things are happening and yes there are reasons fans can point to not think that is the case. Game day, stadium, budget, support ect. But the staff is capable, the hires are solid and the recruiting is as good as it has been in years. Pitt will be good next year and improving with some luck with injuries and QB play.
