DL Coach Charlie Partridge Gone

From the Pitt Athletic Department:

Statement from Pat Narduzzi, Pitt’s Chris Bickell ’97 Head Football Coach:

“As a coach and mentor, Charlie Partridge has been vital to our program’s rise over the past seven years. When I hired him back in 2017, I had high aspirations for the type of impact he would make for us. True to form, Charlie surpassed even those expectations. His influence on our players, on and off the field, is well known. Speaking personally, Charlie has been a tremendous confidant, advisor and friend, and I’ll always be grateful for that. The National Football League is getting a great coach and an even greater man. On behalf of our entire program, I wish him and his family only the very best.””

From the Post-Gazette:

“…Charlie Partridge, Pitt’s defensive line coach, is leaving the program for a job with the NFL.

Viewed by many as Pat Narduzzi’s top assistant, Partridge has established himself as one of the premier defensive line coaches in the country throughout his career. Partridge was entering his 12th overall season as a Pitt assistant. He has twice been recognized by FootballScoop as the National Defensive Line Coach of the Year…”

Two Tough Questions About Pitt Football

I received an email the other day asking if I would post blog two articles about Pitt football on the POV. While my policy is to not use previously posted articles I told the author, John Baranowski, that I wouldn’t do it. However these articles are so well written and so deeply researched I do want to share then with our POV readers. The fact that they reflect my own written opinions on the two subjects is but a coincidence (really, it is).

Here they are with parts of the email quoted also:

One asks the question, has playing football off-campus helped Pitt football with some statistical data involving Pitt’s home won-loss records you may find of interest.

The other tangibly touches upon Guy Lafleur’s comment about Pitt’s football recent history and your mention of super conferences and will Pitt be or not be a part of that and doesn’t sugarcoat Pitt’s recent history.

Pitt vs Wake Forest, 7pm, Home Game

Wake Forest (13-6, 5-3) vs Pitt (12-8, 3-6) ACCN Basketball. – 1/31 – 7pm at the Peterson Center

Can Pitt’s momentum from second half of Miami carry over to this game? Pitt has had 3 days off to get healthy and get ready for a very good Wake Forest team. Pitt is a 1.5 favorite in Vegas.

Wake has lost three of its last five but those losses were to NC St, Fla St and UNC. They are fourth in the ACC shooting an average of 80.2 points per game. Wake is one of the best FT Shooting teams averaging 79.8% from the line.

Their three guards average 17 points a game and their big men are 6’11 and 7’ 0′ underneath. On paper this looks like a Pitt loss. Fortunately these games are not played on paper.

Pitt will have to defend tenaciously and come out on fire shooting to even stay in this game! One ray of hope is that Wake has had a lot of team illness.

Efton Reid (Zag Transfer) who committed to Pitt and ended up at Wake will start for them tonight. This is a Quad 2 game for Pitt.

Pitt @ Miami; 2:15 pm

Pitt (12-7, 3-5 ACC) vs Miami (13-6 , 4-4 ACC) Basketball at Coral Gables Fla

Tip 2:15 Saturday 1/27 on CW Network.

Pitt goes for its third straight road win against a very talented Miami team who was ranked 13th pre season. Miami is a very guard oriented team and leads the ACC in FG % and Three point %. Last year Norchand, their starting point guard tore Pitt up. I like Bub on him D wise this year.

Miami likes to play quick with a ton of fast breaks.
Their weakness….. they have no bench. Only go 6 deep.

If Pitt can start fast,  hit shots early and get to the rim, I like Pitt a lot in this game. Pitt should have the advantage under the basket. But….Who knows what Fede and GDiaz will show up?
