Pitt at North Carolina Game Thread

Is it three in a row? Or a return to normalcy. You decide.

Game on the ACC Network with an 8:00 PM start. Wes Durham and Dan Bonner calling the game. I like Durham and Bonner is a Avonworth HS grad. Also, on 93.7 The Fan.

Link to the Pitt Athlectic Department previewing the game. https://pittsburghpanthers.com/news/2022/2/15/mens-basketball-panthers-take-two-game-win-streak-on-the-road-to-north-carolina.aspx

  1. Hate to be that person but will be very surprised if the game is close, let alone a Pitt W. Hope I’m wrong … but if so, then I believe the team may have turned a corner

  2. Again, hate to be that person… but I vividly remember seeing AD play for the first time in a televised high school game featuring Penn Hills and Fox Chapel. FC had PSU 4 star commit Miles Diffenbach at center whose dad was Pitt’s tennis coach. AD had committed to Pitt

I never saw anything like that it — it was like AD knew what the snap count was. He was so much quicker, and disrupted many of the plays at the inception

And I wrote about it on Pitt Blather, reporting something very similar to the previous paragraph

  3. I have written this before as well. Saw AD play vs. a very good Gateway team and had not heard of him before. He was blowing up play after play. He wasn’t that big but had extremely wide hips. Of course had no idea of his future greatness, but he was the dominant player that day.

    1. I’m still amazed that none of the recruiting outlets knew a thing about him and that Pitt was his only Power 5 offer. 3*’s? Idiots…

  4. Saw Fitzsimmons twice. 1st game, CV was so dominant that the whole DL dominated

Then in state title, he pulled an AD. He made his share of plays but was not dominant. Then on the most critical play, the opponent had a 4th down and goal late in the game … He blew up play before it really got going. He sliced right in backfield as if nobody touched him and made the tackle

  5. One of my all-time favorite Pitt plays was Aaron Donald tackling both the back and the QB against Duke…

Not sure which one has the ball? No problem!

    Go Pitt.

  6. One last note about my son. We received his cremation urn today and…they engraved his name as requested…but left off “Kohberger”.

My wife was not amused. I had to laugh a bit (silently) though.

    Go Pitt BB tonight!

  7. Pitt BB ladies open an 11-0 lead over BC to start the game and can’t even hold it to halftime. I’m more disappointed in them than the men.

    1. I was surprised when I heard the WBB’s coach is already in his fourth season with the program.

Pitt needs to stop hiring assistants as coaches. It just seems to work out for the worse much more than for the better. So glad it worked with Narduzzi.

  8. My hopes for the game are not as lofty as a win. What I would like to see is PItt play a solid game… few mental mistakes and rise to the challenge of playing a blue blood. In short, show that they belong on the court with the Heels. And make the damn FTs!

Do that and I will feel like the team is progressing.

  9. I expect the University of No Classes to own Pitt inside as they have one of the best centers in basketball. He and their other big man can also shoot from three. Whether they own us outside is up to our improved defense. Also, it would be nice if Burton and Horton could hit a few from three!

    1. UPitt you’re a good guy. I’ve realized that since way back when you GENEROUSLY invited anyone to join you in Fort Worth for that very special Armed Forces Bowl. Too bad too many others fail to realize that simple fact.

      1. iirc he made a sincere offer to donate a kidney a couple years ago here so I second the good guy comment, actually way better than good!!!

  11. Good first half – Horton not very good with 2 on 1 fast breaks – he missed on back to back layups with the 2nd Pitt player wide open for dunks.

Other than that I see a 3 game win streak from this thread.

    Go Pitt!

  12. hate seeing missed chances here early, would’ve really opened it up

c’mon, maybe ok to go slow offense but can’t stop intensity and gotta’ continue to play smart hard defense

  13. Don’t like that the refs are looking to call fouls on Pitt but allowing UNC to hack away.

You should never lose when up by 15 with 6 minutes left in a game.

  14. Wow – Caleb Love is way better than any other player on the court.

At least in the second half.

Note to coach Capel: this is why you need to recruit a PG. Or two.

    1. Is this a joke? The season is beyond repair, maybe a little dignity salvaged and some hope for next year.
Pitt has a chance tomorrow but the last three are vs. the three best in the ACC. Is another upset possible, not bloody likely.

Pitt basketball hopes rest with Hugley coming back next year.
