POV: We’re Empire City Bound !

First off I’m definitely going to the Pinstripe bowl game at the new Yankee stadium. lafayette_lehigh_yankee_stadium1280_1yff3v9i_oke37x0t

New York City around the Christmas and New Year holidays is a truly great place to visit and kick out any holiday stress… just to replace it with Pitt football stress I suppose but you can’t have everything.

Big City lights, strange people, booze, cheap peep shows… what else does a dedicated Pitt fan need?

Combine all that with the fact that we are facing a Big Ten Northwestern team that is 6-6 on the regular season and is only a middling passing team and that’s icing on the cake.  We may actually be able to win this bowl game – something we haven’t been all that good at of late.

We are 1-4 in our last five bowl games, the singular 30-27 win being against Bowling Green in the world-renown Little Caesar’s Bowl.  To counter that depressing fact a bit we also have been in bowl games the last eight years running which for Pitt, and other teams also, is an accomplishment.  In those games we combined three wins vs five losses and that leaves one wondering just what will happen in three weeks.

POV Follow Up: Nate Peterman’s Year

Right after we played the Villanova game in the season opener I wrote an article titled Why Can’t We Get The Good QBs?  In it was this bit about how a commenter saw my continual talking about Peterman as our QB:

“Yesterday a commenter on here made a rather witty remark in saying that when I write about Nate Peterman, who is currently Pitt’s starting QB,  “it’s like a patriot fan talking about Tom Brady and deflate gate.

Which I suppose is true, so I’ll try to stick with more factual stuff here in this piece. But what transpired over the first four games of this season didn’t make Nate Peterman any new fans, the opposite happened actually – we were wary of Peterman’s slow start.  Even though most Pitt fans kind of knew we’d be 2-2 to start off the year it still was a bit disappointing to really be at an even .500 average.

Especially since we were racking up points like we had never seen before.

POV’s Prediction Thread; Syracuse

Damn, we wait seven months over the off-season for Fall Camp to start – then it does and then it and the regular season go by in the blink of an eye.  We are almost at that point tomorrow when at the end of 60 minutes of play against Syracuse at Heinz Field we start the long wait again.  With a break for the bowl game of course.

But we still have that last regular season game to play against a long-time Pitt opponent.  Syracuse, even with its less than good record shouldn’t be taken lightly. They can beat us just like we can beat anyone in the nation.

We’ll see if the SOP (Same Old Pitt) curse has that last nail beaten down to trap it in its coffin tomorrow.  I think it will but any long time Pitt fan will tell you we always tend to win one game we shouldn’t (Clemson!!) and lose one we should have won… that is the outcome that’s missing this season.

Miami and VA Tech were both legitimate teams to have bested the Panthers on those days we played.  Actually so is Syracuse but give that we are major overbitches (as opposed to “underdogs”) then a loss would feel like a SOP moment.  I don’t really feel that SOP is present, I feel it is in hiatus while Narduzzi is HC here, and we’ll pull this one out for our 8th win.
