2022 Season Up Next: Pitt at Miami

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, I will be doing a condensed version of the Up Next articles. I will only be showing Miami stats and data. Yes, there will be some Pitt – Miami comparisons but no Pitt names and stats.

Last week, on Senior’s Day, Pitt beat the Duke Blue Devils 28 – 26. Pitt is now 7 – 4 (4-3 Conf, 3-1 OOC) and is tied with Duke for second place in the Coastal.

Miami played at Clemson and were crushed 40 – 10. The Canes had a total of 98 yards of offense. Speaking of offense, the Canes fans are offended by OC Josh Gattis.

Miami is now 5 – 6 (3-4 Conf, 2-2 OOC) and occupies fifth place in the Coastal. Saturday is Miami’s Senior Day. Miami is hoping for a win to both celebrate the Senior’s and become bowl eligible.

Below is the schedule for both teams. I have added offensive/defense scoring stats for the five common Coastal Division opponents.

Here are the NCAA offensive stats comparison after week 12 action:

2022 Season Up Next: Pitt vs. Duke

Once again, I am back for what I do and enjoy. But I enjoy visits to the mountains of western North Carolina more and not for fly fishing. Even though there is a on property stream where visitors do fly fish for trout.

Pitt won last week’s game over Virginia 37-7. In my last articles(s), I ranted about turnovers both good ones and bad ones. Last week was all good. It is a good thing I had my Sirius radio, rocker and beer in hand or I would have missed the fireworks.

Pitt is now 6 – 4 (3-3 Conf, 3-1 OOC) and is tied with Miami for third place in the Coastal.

The Duke Blue Devils have now won three games in a row. The latest was a home victory over Virginia Tech 24-7. Overall, they are 7 – 3 (4-2 Conf, 3-1 OOC). They are in second place in the Coastal.

Below is the schedule for both teams.

Duke lost to that terrible team (Georgia Tech) the week after Pitt lost. I think four of the five teams that fired their HC early in the 2022 season won their next game. GT and at least one other won their second game.

2022 Season Up Next: Pitt vs. Syracuse

Pitt is coming off its fourth loss (and three of its last four games) losing to North Carolina 24-42. Last week, I talked about Pitt not winning the turnover battle in its prior losses. Pitt lost the turnover battle against UNC losing one fumble while UNC had zero turnovers. IMO, that fumble was the turning point in the game.

Pitt got the ball back late in the third quarter losing 24 – 28 after a UNC TD. On a 3rd and one at the fifty, Izzy fumbled and game over.

Pitt is now 4 – 4 (1-3 Conf, 3-1 OOC and sits in fifth place in the Coastal.

The Syracuse Orange have now lost two games in a row losing to Notre Dame 24 – 41. Overall, they are 6 – 2 (3-1 Conf, 3-1 OOC). They are in second place in the Atlantic.

Below is the schedule for both teams.

I am now in color coding mode. Red is for Transfer Portal (TP) entries. Green is for season ending injuries. Names highlighted in yellow are defensive players starters. (Games started are next to Oline and Defense players names.)

Here are the NCAA offensive stats comparison after week 9 action:

You can make a case for either offense being better, but I will go with the Orange. Mainly because I am on a turnover tantrum. Syracuse has turned the ball over nine times to Pitt’s thirteen.

The offense revolves around QB play. Like last week, I am showing some of the ACC QB stats I update weekly. I use ESPN game stats for my individual team stats but always verify with NCAA stats.

2022 Season Up Next: Pitt at North Carolina

Pitt is coming off an enraging, angering, incensing, exasperating, infuriating loss to Louisville. If that does not describe your feelings, let me know in a one “Word” comment.

Pitt now stands at 4 – 3 (1 – 2 Conf, 3-1 OOC) and is tied for fourth place in the Coastal.

North Carolina (UNC) is coming out of a Bye week at 6 – 1 (3-0 Conf, 3-1 OOC). They are odds on favorites to win the Coastal now that my preseason prediction of Miami is 3 – 4, (1-2 Conf, 2-2 OOC) with a tiebreaking loss to UNC.

I am now in color coding mode. Red is for Transfer Portal (TP) entries. Green is for season ending injuries. Names highlighted in yellow are defensive players starters. (Games started are next to players names.)

On to the review, starting with NCAA team stats through October 22’nd games. I am using a new NCAA stat list. Besides national FBS rankings, the new chart adds conference rankings. I also sorted the stats by type so that offense, defense. and miscellaneous stats are grouped.

Here are the NCAA offensive stats comparison after week 8 action:

Excluding the last four stats, the UNC offense is top four in conference except rushing offense. Outside of rushing offense, Pitt is truly mid or bottom of the pack.

The offense revolves around QB play. This week, I am showing some of the ACC QB stats I update weekly. I use ESPN game stats for my individual team stats but always verify with NCAA stats. Why, you ask? Because sites like ESPN, CBS, Team Ranking, and others use “game day” stats. Like HCPN, the statisticians watch the tape and update their stats with the NCAA after review. Those other sites do not pick up the changes.
