Editor’s Note: Here is Rick Caldwell’s (Erie) gracious invitation to this year’s Frankcan Cup Tournament. Rick runs the show year in and year out for the readers and golfers of the Pitt POV – and he does just an unselfish and wonderful job at it. I’ll be there this year so hopefully there will be at least one golf cart that has a spare seat. That way I can watch some actual golf instead of just drinking for three hours! Friends – if you haven’t been to one yet get onboard. It is true fun and fellowship and a great summer lead-in to Fran’s tailgates.

Lodging: On-site Bed & Breakfast on the club property or within a few miles there are hotel options in Arnie and Ike’s hometown of Latrobe, PA USA. Here is the more detailed Facebook page for the B&B.
NOTE: The cost per player is the same as 2019 and 2021!!
If you choose to stay on-site, you can park your ride, open your trunk, remove your party
wear, pop that beverage and then Let’s Do It!! as Porky Chedwick used to say!

team members, longest drive, closest to the pin, straightest drive and longest putt.

I look forward to another fun day of fellowship with good to great Pitt fans. To those who cannot attend this year’s outing, please know that you will be missed – we have always had a good time at these golf outings.

OT – For local Pitt fans, did you get the notification about the “Football Repark?” You get to request a lot based on your Priority Points. In addition to the parking pass fee of $120, you have to pay a Scholarship Parking Membership fee depending on the lot location…
Specific times are assigned depending on your point total for being able to pick your parking location. Of course those with the most priority points go first…. The process starts on April 11th.
I haven’t had a parking pass for a while, so I thought it was interesting…. The Pitt Parking Game…

Even we out-of-towners got the mail. Red Lot 6 – between next to the Springhill Suites across from PNC is going to be developed and its a fairly good sized surface lot. Some will have to opt for the garages and others will try to find another space, including Red5A.
I think those in Red 6 would do well to go to Green32… just on the other side of the stadium. Conveniently next to both the Satdium and the Casino. No need to be bumping any of us from Red5A… 😉
Hoping to be able to stay in Red5A. We will see as I don’t pick until the 18th at 11:30am… not that Im keeping an eye on it.

Greg,
It was in the mid 70s. I was at the bar next to the Dirty O; I think the Wooden Keg. I was on a date (she would become my wife) and I went to get us drinks and when I came back she was dancing with someone.
I kinda butted in; he left and she said he was the DJ on a break and she was just standing there and he started dancing. Her girlfriend was also with us and she said she thought he was an albino.
It was Porky Chedwick. People around us said he’s sort of famous in the Burg. What a night; Froggy Morris was carding at the door. I hope I got these facts straight; my memory hasn’t been the greatest lately.

Perhaps. But she’s making $850,000, reportedly, so she probably needed at least another $100K to move and maybe Ole Miss matches the offer…
Seems to me a really tough job to hire a good coach for a downtrodden program…

Pork the Tork was great but imo, Rick is the Legend around here. Thanks Rick and Fran who also puts in the time and work. Thanks to all that helped make this golf Tourney so great.
Being in my backyard makes it really tough to miss it again. My golf days are long gone but I will be hitching a ride in the back of Reed’s golf cart in SPIRIT!
Porky took the loss of his son very hard and it set him back tremendously. As we all know how it would challenge any and all of us. Shout out to you Reed and your family for being so courageous during such heart-breaking times. Glad to hear you’ll be at the famous Frankcan tourney.

FRAN is the glue that makes the FRANkcan Cup “drinkable”. FRAN gets the FRANchise Tag of the POV Tailgate and the FRANkcan Cup Golf Tournament, year in and year out.
FRAN has been a part of the FRANkcan Cup Golf Tournament since the beginning when we held the inaugural event at Quicksilver Golf Club in McDonald, PA west of Pittsburgh where I first met Dr. Tom and Joe Knew (best POV handle ever IMO).
FRAN’s name is on the FRANkcan Cup numerous times as a winner.
Best of all, FRAN is FRANkly someone I call my friend.

I wish that I could come out of hiding…there really is an isnore– (Eddie Leeds), however, my back has never fully recovered. I developed osteoporosis from over a decade of cancer treatment and my walking and golfing days are sadly over. Yeah, I played 3-4 times a week after I retired (Wifey permitting..you know how that goes). I never got better than a 12 hcp, but I loved the game. The game of golf is terrific…the only game in the world where you have a choice of any weapon you want to use, to hit a ball that is not moving sitting directly in front of you and ^&^% yep, there goes my par. As we all know who love golf…the 19th hole can be as much fun as the first 18….I look forward to seeing the pictures of the POV’ers who will be playing Dick Groat’s track. I miss FRANKAN.
Happy and Healthy Easter to ALL H2P!!

Well, I think it’s less about sports and running an athletic dept that makes money. I highly doubt we’ll add any sports … well, maybe, one … I could definitely see Pitt adding e-sports at some point as it’s a knows money-maker.

Paris Ford has above-average athletic skill, but he has been his own worst enemy. Ford did not put in the extra effort to maximize his ability. The NFL gave him a chance and he could not stick with a taxi squad…the XFL is minor league AAA football and that is his level.

Ford was one of the most disappointing, couldn’t get on the field early and made many mistakes when he did. He quit on his team. So much promise so little results. Really a shame.
If you want to know how good Narduzzi is, look how many Pitt D-Backs are playing in the league. Ford has lots of sour grapes because he isn’t one of them and it’s all on him.
The Belle Vernon kid was never coming to Pitt.

Does anyone else think that playing in the LIV took away Koepka’s edge?

Rory always chokes at the Masters. Too much pressure to win the Grand Slam.
Koepka was the best golfer for the first three days then collapsed on Sunday.
LIV tournaments are three days and the guys have already been paid so no pressure to win.
The guy lost his driver and his putter on the last day, went from a 4 shot lead to a four shot loss.

Phil is 52 did it bother him?
He lost.
Rahm played better. Brooks still better than everyone else.
Were they tired?
Maybe they all should do what Brooks did and they will finish higher.

Phil had a great round but under little pressure.
Brooks choked with it all on the line. It happens.
Was it physical or mental? Was it because LIV doesn’t have the same
kind of pressure as a PGA? Maybe it doesn’t matter, we’ll see how he does moving forward.
Guys getting paid in advance makes me think LIV is just an exhibition, doesn’t mean
they don’t have talent, but competition is what brings out the best in athletes.

Pitt women’s BB’s best freshman player was probably 5-10 guard Avery Strickland. She looked to have very good potential – she can shoot and plays with high energy. Somewhere I saw where she went into the portal (this was before Verdi was named), but said she could possibly return to Pitt.
Would be an impressive coup for Coach Verdi if he could persuade Strickland to stay. I’m not expecting her back. She’s from Knoxville, TN and I suspect she will have some nice offers…

Our extremely well-paid coach better get some diversity going, pronto – and adding a few talented (and tall) players wouldn’t hurt…
