  1. Pitt is 9.5 underdog vs NCST tonight in Raleigh. They are good, maybe very good. No idea which Pitt team shows up but with the ACC down this year, this would be a huge win for Pitt.

  2. Pitt volleyball has a bit of a problem tonight. One of our big OH Julianne Dalton is not playing. Cam Ennis has taken her place which is a big step down both in height and ability. Pitt is currently up 12-9 in the first set with Colgate is calling a timeout.

  3. Pitt’s biggest problem is guard vs guard. NCState much more athletic and quicker. Pitt guards need to take of the ball. Pitt down 3

  4. Pitt volleyball now up 17-10 with Colgate calling their second and last timeout in the first set. Lexis Akeo is Pitt’s second setter and Cam Ennis is being used as a six-position player.

my connection getting dropped a few times already but Colgate got a few tip ins to drop early but Pitt starting to look strong and a couple tip over winners of their own

contributions from all VVG, Buzz and Serena Gray at the end

    looked very good

    keep it rolling!!!

  7. Pitt down 3 and playing tough is getting bothered by NCST full court press. I was a big fan of pressing back. Capel, not so much.

    1. DAN – we come from the same school. A team that full court presses, usually can’t handle being full court pressed! Always seemed to work that way.

  8. Vazquez Gomez leads Pitt to a first set win over Colgate 25-16. A number of Panthers with 2 kills. Pitt pulls away in the set after a slow start. Pitt made several runs while Buzzerio was out due to rotation.

Without Dalton in the lineup, we have no chance against BYU tomorrow.

  9. Would like an update on Dalton from someone at the volleyball match. Did Dalton come out for warmups?

Pitt us 12-7 at Colgate’s first timeout in the second set. Vazquez Gomez has 9 kills.

  10. 17-10 in second set as Colgate uses their second and last time out. Buzzerio starting to get hot. She now has 7 kills.

  11. Pit BBall playing as well as I’ve seen in a long while up 5 at the half. Maybe soon we’ll learn to defend the pick and roll! Pitt playing incredible half court man defense!!

  12. Real good half without much from Hinson or Hugely. Burton and Elliott playing very well.
Where did this defense come from?

    1. We now have guys picking up for others who aren’t scoring. Most guys playing defense well. We need to stop those offensive rebounds though.

  13. Elliot is playing like someone called him out

    you’re welcome

if he’d have hit the couple wide open 3’s he missed, this game would have started getting ugly….for NCSt!

  14. Pitt wins the second set 25-14. Vazquez Gomez leads Panthers with 12 kills. Buzzerio has 7 and the middles combined have 10.

Ennis is only being used in the front row now with Browske joining libero, Klika, in the backrow for more defense especially against tips.

Pitt just more athletic than Colgate even without Dalton.

  15. Pitt usp 12-5 in the third set as Colgate uses its first timeout of the set. Pitt using two of their three setters as outside hitters, Ennis and Fairbanks. This way too small to beat BYU.

  16. I’m the same as Ed. Afraid to say anything Pitt playing so well!!
One thing about the full court press that NCST relies on, you have to make your shots to impose it. Pitt’s half court defense reeking havoc on NCST ! Also, best hedging by Pitt since Jamie, denying 3 pointers.
Pitt up 7 and going to the line!

  17. Pitt wins the third set and the match 25-14. Pitt was just much, much better than Colgate even without Dalton. Tomorrow Pitt faces a taller and more athletic BYU.

Way to go Panthers! Hail to Pitt!

  18. Pitt survives first bug test 7-0 NCST run and answers with a 7-0 run of their own. Just stunned watching this. Who are these guys?

  19. Back to women’s volleyball briefly. Pitt and Louisville are the last of ACC teams still in the tournament as Georgia Tech loses in the second round tonight. Florida State was eliminated in the first round tonight and Miami was eliminated in the first round last night. Not a good showing for the rest of the ACC.

  20. Awesome game by Pitt win 68-60 and NCST was barely in it second half. NCST picked to be top two ACC preseason.
Not enough words to say how good this Pitt team looked tonight. Congrats to the players, Jeff Capel and staff! A huge H2P

  21. Burton with a career high 24 points in his backyard I believe.

I thought I read he was from Carolina – the announcer never mentioned it that I heard – the were all ncst.

  22. Pitt played good defense and kept them at bay and didn’t allow any big runs. When they get a couple runs we hit a 3 or got a TO or something to slow them down.

Maybe it hasn’t been Capel & Co., maybe we just had terrible players the last few years. Just think if we had that great PG…

  23. Three point shooting opens the whole court.
But defense makes the difference, where has that been for the last several years?

  24. the defense was frankly a thing of beauty, maybe helped a bit by NCState shooting and a few bad turnovers but Pitt made them work all over the place

Pitt offense could’ve been much better and I think they OFTEN will be

Dan72’s crazy in thinking this Pitt team will fight for first place the whole year,,,, frankly that statement makes me worry about my Maryland brother 🙂

IF Pitt basketball gets in meaningful games near the season end, can anyone imagine getting together to watch a game with Dan?

who doesn’t think that will be great entertainment as long as Pitt plays anywhere near like this game or the previous,,,, otherwise I’m thinking I gtho at halftime 😉

  26. We have a basketball team… not being cute here something has brought the guys together and you can’t miss seeing the intensity and extra effort that has changed markedly from last year…. Having a healthy Sibande is a plus and if Hugely can-get back on track we can be dangerous. The twins badly need conditioning and a weight development program.

  27. Other than the missed bunny Federiko played his best game as a Panther.
Most impressive is that they are looking like a team instead of a bunch of guys on the playground. Also impressed with how they handled a pretty tough press d.

Probably thought they were getting the team that WV ran out of the Pete.

  30. Pitt has five P6 veterans in Burton, Nike, Hugley, Hinson and Elliott. Cummins is a seasoned veteran (sub-P6) but played in the NCAA tournament twice.

  31. For me, this was Pitt’s best game in years (including that NC win last year). Every time NC ST made a little run, we answered. I have to wonder if Pitt wasn’t playing possum in the noncon games. Our defense has gone from dazed and confused to aggressive and confident. It is just one game, but there is something brewing here. When Big John returns to form, this team is going to be competitive in the ACC for the first time since joining the league.

  32. Interesting Box score, Pitt was only 6-22 from the three point line.
    Hugley only played 14 minutes.

  33. I don’t have the same love and adoration for Juliana Dalton that John has. Watching her play, she is knocked back on blocks a lot, and hits straight into blocks alot also. She needs to hit the weight room this off-season. Granted, sometimes you can’t help it, but her situational awareness of blockers and touch on the hit to get a rebound seems to be lacking. She’s only a sophomore, so she has time to improve. Ennis is shorter, and I gotta admit I’m not a fan of her as an OH. But she does have more experience, so I’m guessing that’s why Fisher had her play tonight.

  34. Congrats to the volleyball women!

    Congrats to the basketball men!

Looks like we made 4 more buckets on 6 less shots. We did get out-rebounded, but given our history with NC St., what a great road win…

    On to Vandy!

    Go Pitt.

    1. great FT shooting and some at important times that kept NCSt from getting just close enough

and NCSt missed enough FT’s of their own

Elliot looks like a totally different kid out there on both ends

  36. Best win in decades ! – We won on the road against a 7 – 1 conference opponent while committing 45 turnovers and 35 fouls !! – AWESOME … Help me out legal major alumni as Dior Johnson’s ” formal arraignment ” scheduled for this Wednesday , 12/07/22 – It is my understanding that it is highly unlikely charges are dropped at this stage of the process ? If we somehow can get him on the squad in the near future we can potentially do some serious damage as NC, DUKE & VIRGINIA are highly vulnerable !!!

  37. Interesting that Pitt beats NW shooting 64% from 3-point range and beats NCSt shooting 27% from the same range. If Pitt shoots 40% it would have been another blow-out like NW.

The difference is defense, something that we haven’t seen from a Pitt team in several years. Defense is about hard-work and desire not just being talented. Nice to see Capel getting some buy-in from his players on that side of the ball.

But, until Pitt gets better on the boards, it’s going to be tough to keep this going. Federicko and GDG are not bulky enough so Hugley better get back into last year’s form in a hurry.

  39. OT: two bowl predictions I’m reading this morning has Pitt playing in the Military Bowl vs Cincinnati OR the Panthers play East Carolina in the Fenway Bowl.

Big day for our men’s soccer team as they host Portland at home this afternoon in the NCAA tournament elite eight game.

    Go Pitt!

    1. I keep reading Fenway is not applicable to both Syracuse and Pitt due to their respectable academic calendars. Hopefully the Gator is still in play but USC losing knocked the Irish down, which will knock Pitt down.

They probably took a championship away from us, but couldn’t buy one for themselves.

    1. Jordan probably didn’t hurt his draft stock, but with Pitt he won a league championship and the Biletnikoff award as THE BEST WR in CFB.

As a USC WR JA3 has neither of those two “wins”.

That is somewhat satisfying as a Pitt fan.

JA3’s unspectacular year at USC plays well for Tomlin to pick him in the 1st round and reunite him with K8.

    2. The combine will probably dictate his draft position, Gordon. He has a nice body of work at both Pitt and USC. But he certainly didn’t do anything at USC to improve his stock. His statistics pale in comparison to last year. His move helped his wallet but not his draft position.

But his bank account was helped immensely short term.

    1. Well not many receivers have played with two heisman candidates, no doubt he made the right financial decision.

We went to the volleyball game last night. These women are a joy to watch. I was amazed at the number of young girls in attendance, like middle school young. It’s great that our Panther women can serve as inspiration for athletic excellence to these kids. H2P volleyball.

Izzy, Haba, SirV, Wayne, Hill and Blue Mtn Bart.
