  1. Is this the first time all year our O line has been together??

Why didn’t Duzz challenge that spot. Entire game could’ve just turned on that play!!

  2. A freshman QB gets the ball on their own 2 yard line. We should wind up getting a FG out of this anyway.

      1. I’ll give them 1-2 bad bad drives. That’s still only 14 points for the other team.

But I’ll also say that GT and LOU were still the “growing” phase for the defense.

So hey here we are 8-4. Miami looks clueless and unmotivated thankfully

    1. Yea no mention of it, by Andrea Adelson in the ESPN game article…she also mentioned Clemson didn’t win the ACC last year…in the same article. And again failed to mention who did win the ACC last year……PITT !!! So 2 chances to mention Pitt..but NO mention.

  9. Is there anything better than watching a game with your 7 year old grandson who actually knows what is going on ( unlike his grandfather). He’s telling me how bad the Miami qbs are, lol. I honestly had no idea how far the U has fallen. We are playing well, but they are just an embarrassment. You can only imagine who the POV would light up if teams were reversed.

I remember the first couple of years after Narduzzi came to PITT, man was he ridiculed for his defense. Now he’s known as a terrible coach in all phases of the game.

Mario, can you believe it, another head coach PITT missed out on because PITT won’t fire meatball Narduzzi.

Can’t believe PITT wouldn’t allow Kancy to fly back home this week.

On the goal-line stand by them….replay & announcers agreed Izzy was in

Slovis’s arm while he was attempting to throw it.

Some very nice throws by Slovis tonight.

Liked that play where we faked a side-ways pass to the left and then threw a screen pass to the right. Where have plays like that been?

Still want a QB who can run, but I think we’re stuck with KS, so I’m going to root for him…

    Go Pitt.

    1. Unless you are not certain about the QB’s future and want to see as much of him as you can before you must decide on your (Narduzzi that is) input to his future. This way of thinking is especially appropriate if your QB had a serious concussion and has been on a moderate ascension in his playing performance.

If you read the comments, it was as if Pitt was having a hard time and Slovis was stinking the place up. Come on people, you need to just sit back and enjoy games like this! Overall, it was Pitt’s best game of the season.

  25. My understanding is that is the end of the ACC Coastal Division.

I the past eight years, Pitt and Duzz won that division twice. That is a .250 batting average.

Very good win by our team last night – still feels like a disappointing season – GT, Louisville and UNC did not get the team focus we saw last night.

One thing that shined through last night was Cig’s consistency in not using Blue Mtn Bart. One pass for 8 yards.

I enjoyed the shots of the Miami fans throughout the game – didn’t catch any napping, but surely disgusted.

Thank you Izzy for entertaining us this season – I hope you are rewarded beyond your wildest dreams.

Duzz may get another shot at a B1G opponent.

The Miami pounding was refreshing and good entertainment.

It will be interesting which players return – NFL will call away Sir V, Kancey and Izzy. Not sure any others will get that call. Carter Warren has exhausted his eligibilty – he may get a 6 or 7th round call.

  29. It looks like Narduzzi and Cig’s decision to stay with Slovis worked out pretty well. We got to see what he could do with good protection and an open receiver. He certainly has his flaws but finished strong. If he doesn’t get knocked out of the Tennessee game who knows what might have happened.

There were many injuries this year which had a lot to do with the overall record. Miami without Van Dyke was a much lesser team.

A season when you beat a hated historical rival and win eight games, one with a third string QB isn’t all bad.

The defensive performance without the two best D-linemen was impressive. The defensive guy I will miss the most next year is Dennis, what a player. Let’s hope we get to see him, Kancy and Haba one more time.

We will all miss Izzy who joins a long line of great Pitt running backs, hard to do in this pass happy era. He joined a group of 4 with 20 or more touchdowns. Very sure he preferred Cig over Whip.

Losing a lot of talent this year and will need to rely on the portal more than ever. This is definitely the pay to play era on steroids.

  30. Great way to cap the regular season – a beat down on the Hurricanes.

I bet the team wants those GTech and Louisville games back. Turnovers and a lack of a passing attack doomed Pitt in those contests.

Have to win the bowl game for a good shot at finishing ranked at 24 or 25. Wouldn’t mind Maryland in the Pinstripe. I’d prefer the Military due to an AAC opponent and a better chance to finish with a W. Just no Iowa, Purdue or Minnesota as the opponent. Those teams don’t move the needle for me.

Who returns? Kedon, Kradel, Zubovic, Wayne, Devin, Green, Haba, Voss, Simon, Hallett and Williams would be nice. All won’t return, but portal additions will happen. Locals with Pittsburgh ties being bantered about are Derrick Davis from LSU and Dante Cephas at Kent State.

  31. Great win. Pitt dominated on the D and O lines. The future is bright on both sides of the ball.
Slovis can make all the throws. Seemed like he was looking off coverage better. I give Cignetti credit, his best called game by far. Too bad it took so many games for him to get the offense going.
Miami is a mess. A product of continual coaching changes in my opinion.

Maybe if Pitt wins their bowl game they end up in the top 25 which would be a good season.

If your team beats down one of the historic bully programs in your connference and you find yourself making excuses for them… you might just be a Pitt fan.

If you are up in a game 14-0 and clearly on a roll, but you complain it should be 28-0… you might just be a Pitt fan.

If a player decides to enter the transfer portal and your first reaction is to blame Narduzzi or another coach… you might just be a Pitt fan.

If your QB is having his best game of the season (and a good one) and you are screaming for him to be benched… you might just be a Pitt fan.

If you blame the Chancellor, the BOT or the clothing choices of the AD after an inexplicable loss – just like those that happen everywhere in CFB… you might just be a Pitt fan.

  36. Pulled this from Pantherlair.com – for your entertainment pleasure:

PL question: You went from Drexel to Kradel at center midway through the game. What prompted that?

Narduzzi: He had a couple of crappy snaps and coaches learn. The last time he had some crappy snaps was Western Michigan two years ago and I told Borbs, ‘I said hey if he’s having one of those days let’s get him out of there’ and I think Kradel came in and he’s got soggy butt, OK. We’ve got to get him depends because his butt is soaked and Kedon’s got his hands up underneath there. So we’ve got some soggy butt problems as well. So we had some snaps under center that were issues as well. I just told Borbs that I wasn’t taking any chances and we’re not having any snaps going over. And Owen’s had a great year and so has Kradel. We knew Kradel could do it and Owen is so tough he’s not going to say anything if he’s hurting. He had some pec issues in that Western Michigan game two years ago and it cost us and I just wasn’t going to let that happen again.

    Commenters opinion: Too much information…

  38. Solid win last night. More reliably see what Cigs offense can become with 1) open receivers and 2) a clean pocket. Defense was great aside from a few splash plays, which is how the scheme operates. Louisville/Gtech losses sting, but 8-4 is a real solid season. 10-3/8-4 two years running is great considering expectations entering ‘21. It was said somewhere on twitter that Duzz has done quite the job if a 8-4 season is seen as a disappointment

    1. Agree – we don’t know how good we have it with Duzz. Heather needs to talk with him about the importance of a good to great offense. Duzz thinks he can still win with a great D.

  41. Solid win displaying real talent on both sides of the ball. Finally got to see both in the same game. Punt/kick handling needs some work. Would have been nice to beat a Miami team at or near full strength but you go to battle with the army you have not the one you want.

We all want to believe that Pitt is, was, and always should be one of the elite teams that routinely have ten wins each season. The truth is, Pitt is not in that top tier with Alabama, OSU, Oklahoma (formerly) and the others in that group. But Pitt should be solidly, annually in that next tier – regular 8+ win seasons with double digit ones thrown in when the cards fall just right. With those expectations in mind, we might actually enjoy ourselves more. Not to say we can’t point out areas for improvement but it should be fun along the way.

I’m seeing predictions of Pinstripe vs. Wisconsin or Maryland or Military vs. Cincinnati.

Losing Addison and now Minchey major blows to Pitt’s trajectory hoping that Pitt is getting the NIL dough to compete as we move forward.

  44. I agree that the game was very positive for Pitt, but I really hate to say that our excellent performance was aided by an absolutely terrible Canes effort. I have no idea who we will face in the also-ran bowl, however, I doubt that the opposition will be phoning in their attempt to win. Going to a bowl gives extra time for practice, especially for the red-shirted players who will see the field next year. a good thing. The Pinstripe Bowl would be terrific if it could be played in decent weather….Yankee Stadium has swirling wind making it really tough on players and spectators. If the game is played in The Bronx BE AWARE that parking near the Stadium is terrible…..yep, taking the NYC Subway is your best option. 46. Bowl games suck. Conference championships and playoffs are the only post season events that matter. I look forward to watching Pitt play again but can’t take much from a win or loss. Playoff expansion can’t get here soon enough so we can stop talking about these meaningless bowls.

      1. An expanded playoff will eventually kill outlier bowl games. They will be played concurrently with a playoff and the viewership won’t be there outside of participating schools and maybe some regional interests. My guess is you’ll see a rise in all star type bowls like the senior bowl to get kids some NIL money and pre-draft exposure.

This season’s bowl will have quite a few opt outs from Pitt.

  48. ru happy with the year everyone?

can’t help but wonder if the Duzz had the idea(appropriate) to go for 2 v Tennessee how everything could’ve been different and realistically could’ve been another magical year

injuries played a role early and maybe none bigger than Slow getting hurt to end that first half but also, Nick Patti as hobbled as he was, put Pitt in a position to win anyway

Izzy’s and Hammond’s injuries certainly it seems cost us the GaTech game but even with V Davis had the fumbles not happened, we still should’ve not laid that egg

I know spilled milk but looking back(20/20) this one isn’t a Duzz induced fail or even foot shooting, to me Duzz gives Pitt the best chance if he can continue with his clear success of creating a team family and keeping the talent losses to a minimum

to that, it sucks to say that the JA loss was bigger than most thought, AND MOST thought it was huge
outside Wayne’s consistent and very good play this year, the WR room was not bare but hollow, imo even Bart while above average never warranted the admiration he gets here

    .
that said, outside the idiotic schedule ahead next year, the upcoming season could be fun again if some of the weak areas can be shored up and #1and #2 on that wish list is WR and WR 🙂 , ok, backup QB if Yarnell ain’t the guy

  49. I think the plays to get Wayne 1000 yards and into the top 10 for Pitt receiving were also a way to showcase to recruits that this offense can be WR and QB friendly. Probably two birds with one stone to show recruits that you can be successful at Pitt even with a running game. Let’s get Wayne his stats but also create some recruiting material for the offense.

  50. I seem to recall Narduzzi discussing the offense in March before Spring ball, and saying that he was surprised at the size of the Cig playbook, and Cig was already introducing it to Slovis and the offense. It appears that the plays were there, but the offense had a hard time grasping them, and it took the entire year for the players, especially the WRs (except Wayne) and TEs, to learn the nuances and the routes. After yesterday, it appears that Means has still not figured things out..

  51. Was it a couple years ago when the rumors were flying that there was trouble in the locker room and Narduzzi had lost the team? It has been a few years since Narduzzi’s teams floundered at the end of the year not including bowl games.

His teams don’t quit and have been getting stronger at the end of the year. The final four were not as tough as originally anticipated but four in a row in November is always appreciated.

His only losing season and Pitt should’ve been 7-5 that year (Weah getting tackled @VTech and Q’s fumble at the goal line versus NC). Two outcomes that never should’ve occurred.

  53. My late thoughts after the game (probably should have saved them for MMQB):
    1. I predicted we would hold Miami to less than 75 yards rushing. Even though the stat sheet said 106, with Reed’s permission I am subtracting the two outliers (runs of 56 and 22 yards) and claiming I was right—Miami only rushed for 28 yards from scrimmage—-without Kancey and Haba. Not bad.

Undefeated in November the last two years (8-0) tells me that (even though he supposedly has meatballs for brains and is admittedly stubborn) he never loses his team despite struggles early in the year. None of us on here (certainly including me) agrees with every decision he makes regarding who plays or who his asst. coaches are but he has managed to be the second winningest head coach in the ACC since he was hired (and he won’t likely ever catch Dabo).

Jordan Addison in 2022: 54 catches for 810 yards and 8 touchdowns.

  57. How did Whipple do this year without KP and Addison?
Nebraska went 4-8, coach got fired
Offense scored 23 points per game with OOC vs N. Dakota and Georgia Southern
    who beat them 45-42
New coach hired at 9 mil per year, will he keep Whipple? Highly doubtful.

  58. Credit where its due — Slovis had his best game since WVU, by far. He was far more decisive and quick with his release, and mostly on target…well done. However, still too little, too late for me. He still locks on to guys and still can’t improvise or get out of trouble with his legs — on his best day, he’s a 6, maybe 7, out of 10. We need someone like Riley Leonard of Duke at QB…with that guy, we are 11-1 or maybe 12-0 this year. Sad to waste so much talent on both sides of the ball by finishing an ACC also ran and go to a mediocre bowl. But, great to beat Miami, anytime, and great to see Izzy with a fantastic year; Wayne looked very good all season, and individual accolades for guys are well deserved.

Slovis’ ceiling is painfully obvious to anyone wanting to see it…we have to bring in a talented dude as a transfer or recruit to compete next year, or maybe Slovis walks? Maybe Patti takes his Covid 6th year, but I’d take it somewhere else if I was him — transfer to Delaware ala Flacco, and light it up in his last chance. Yarnell was super poised but couldn’t tell about his arm strength.

  59. Pitt dropped in the coaches poll from 29th to 32nd after crushing Miami. Last week Pitt did not receive any votes for the AP poll and this week they did, which puts the Panthers at # 34.

Seems about right. Purdue and Illinois have the same record as Pitt and are ranked several spots ahead of the Panthers – both are possible opponents in the Pinstripe Bowl.

  60. Slovis hasn’t convinced me yet, when a QB continues to throw almost exclusively to one receiver and only one receiver, sirens go off in my head. Just watching on TV it doesn’t look right. Looks amateurish.

Wanted to take a moment to thank Fran and Wolfe for hosting the Red 5A tailgates. I know JoeL helps out along with some other folks as well. (like Richman, hello Rich) Thank you guys to.

I haven’t been able to get down there in a while, but you can bet I’m always there in spirit. Especially those 12 o’clock starts. I’m still lying-in bed when it pops in my head that Fran and Wofle are already waiting in line to get in the parking lot. That’s dedication that needs to be honored. Thank you, friends, with all my heart. BTW, the pictures I get mean so much just like the poster you all signed for me. It’s still sits close by and I glance at it before most games.

  62. Pitt men’s soccer tied with #1 Kentucky 0-0 after the first half.

Two very good teams battling hard for that one goal that probably wins the match and moves them on to the Elite Eight.

a few minutes after Kentucky goes up , Pitt ties it at 1-1 with about now 33 minutes regulation remaining

  64. Pitt men’s soccer just knocked off the #1 team with one less player – one of our guys was given a Red Card (worse than targeting) and ejected from the game while the score was tied.

    H2P!

  65. Pitt vb seeded #2 in the Wisconsin quarter bracket. Looks like they’ll host rounds 1 and 2 Fruday and Sunday. PSU is also in the bracket, but in the upper level. Louisville #1 in their own bracket

    1. First of all, way to go Pitt Men’s Soccer! Big upset, especially down a man.

Pitt’s women’s volleyball seeding was slightly worse than I thought they would get. They were rated the sixth best team in the nation by the committee. The team whose ranking surprised me was Stanford at #4 over #5 San Diego. Pitt will not face PSU unless they upset Wisconsin or Wisconsin inexplicably loses before they play PSU.

  67. We’re a Volleyball school…..no, we’re a men’s Soccer school…..no, we’re a (sorta) wresting school…..no, wait, we won the ACC Football Championship the last time it was played so we must be a football school…..I’m so confused……

(I am pretty sure we’re not a basketball school though….)

    1. Definitely not a basketball school! We got spoiled with Dixon and then thought we could do better than him. What a fatal mistake for Pitt’s men’s basketball.

  68. So it appeared to me that most of the off setting penalties were instigated by Miami with our guys retaliating.

I really would like to know what set off Danielson making him bash his own head with his helmet multiple times. By the way, he had a really solid season.

    1. Not retaliating is something that can be taught. I hope the coaching staff saw what you and I did.

H2P!!! TGFV. Congrats to men’s soccer.

  70. Mens soccer is winning because they have an elite coach. Period.

What games did Pitt football win this year that were special? And no Miami doesn’t count because this Miami team couldn’t beat a hungover IUP squad.

So now with this win Pitt will play another lousy bowl but it will be late December instead of mid. I highly doubt I’ll be watching. These games are meaningless and pointless for fans. A reward for players yes. But depends on the swag.

Pitt did exceed Vegas expectations and mine by one measly game. So there’s that.

Not much to get excited for come next season however. And the schedule is downright brutal. And Pitts recruiting class is still dropping like flies into stale beer despite feeling good about eight wins. These coaches couldn’t convince a one star with offers from Butler CC or Juniata College that Pitt is It.

So if Pitt doesn’t have a Coach Jay, then it really needs talent. Because king pat isn’t going to outsmart anyone except the local drunk.

He has that little “jump step” that I used to elude overly aggressive women at The Luna back in the day. 😎

  72. With Pitt still passing in the last two or three possessions, it made me wonder if there might be bad blood between the coaching staffs. I could easily envision Miami pulling some crap on Pitt on the recruiting trail. If so, and the players would know it, then our coaches would be no position to tell our players not to retaliate to cheap shots or trash talk on the field.

      1. I think Izzy removed himself from the game right after he topped 100 yards rushing. We might have seen the last of him in a PITT uniform.
