  1. Three turnovers in the first 5 minutes and getting out rebounded by a smaller non-P6 school.

Down 14-12 with 13 minutes left until the half.

  2. So I gave my tickets to my kids, and found out Prime will not let me stream for free on ESPN+ this year. Ask me for a user and password for my provider. It won’t accept them. As if I don’t pay Verizon or Prime enough already. Not going to pay $10 a month to watch this garbage when I already donated over a grand to go to the games.

  3. It is a bad half against a small team with Big John playing most of the game so far.

UNC just lost in OT to NC State with their 4th string QB.

  4. Doesn’t it just jar you to no end that other teams can play freshman qb’s and they perform so well ( even a 4stringer who was given a chance). Now, we only have one mobile qb on the roster and won’t play him. But why do you need a mobile qb anyhow when all you do is handoff? All ball control does is keep the other team in the game longer than you should.

  5. I’m doing a jig in my den. Tarholes lose a heartbreaker to crosstown rival NC State. They will get their derrières kicked by Clemson next weekend.

The NC State QB made his first start. Mr Finley was 4th string and he had an impressive game. Stole the show from Drake Maye (imo).

  6. Another disgraceful truly embarrassing half for Pitt basketball?? Defending back cuts is 8th grade rec ball stuff!

  7. VT beat the Tribe by 17 points. Led by 22 points at halftime. Pitt losing at home to Tribe.
Other Tribe losses to basketball traditional powers….Navy( by 15) & American U (by 7)

  8. North Carolina on a two game losing streak heading into the ACC championship game… Wow! That’s almost like the year we went to the ACC championship and we lost something like six games… Kenny Pickett had 9 yards total passing against Clemson… We did have a great evening of POV tailgating and drinking in a fine restaurant bar after the game!!!!

  9. seems the sports flavor of the day terminology is now identity

Pitt hoops identity on the O side and the D side is “hot garbage”

fortunately Hinson can shoot AND he’s hustling and Burton is hitting some too, otherwise it’s actually cold garbage now that I think about it

    😦

  10. Any association by Pitt with the word “defense” is an accident!
Pitt can’t defend ball screens, backcuts, pick and rolls and has no idea how to space the floor on both offense and defense. It hurts my eyes to watch more than 5 minutes at a time. ITS ALL COACHING!

  14. Large spread at the End….and a Win. Yeah !

But what’s sad is we had to play almost exclusively our top 6 players to achieve it.
The bench of the Diaz twins, Santos & Federico all played limited minutes.

And this was against the Tribe who the announcers said were pegged to finish 8th
in whatever low level conference they play in. Yea I know Pitt bball reality sux.

  15. UNC had a very bad night tonight. Their football team lost to NC State by missing a 35 yard field goal attempt in double overtime. Their number one basketball team then lost to Iowa State 70-65. Maybe instead of “Pitting” we should say “Tarheeling”.

  16. OT: Pitt received enough votes in the CFB Coaches poll to sit at 29th behind the likes of UCF and Troy. In the AP poll, the Panthers are not in the top 38. With a win vs Miami tonight, there is a very slim chance that Pitt slides back into the top 25 of the coaches poll. I predict there is a very slim chance that our Panthers beat the canes. History shows we are 3-14 in the last 17 match-ups.

Miami has nothing to lose – they will bring the house on every play – run blitzing will negate our strength (Izzy & Hammonds) and lead to sacks when our QB sets up to throw. Bringing the house on punting situations will lead to blocked kicks, poor punts and mishandled snaps. Let’s see if Duzz backs up his words and never punts on 4th down tonight. Can Slovis punt? Maybe we see some 3rd down quick kicks…

NOTE: the Coaches Poll has Pitt receiving more votes than two teams that beat us – Louisville & Georgia Tech.

    1. I think a win against the Canes almosts guarantees a spot in the Coaches Top 25. Other teams will lose and srop out, creating the space.

That Pitt is ranked ahead of Lou and GT underscores that coaches know – just like we do – that Pitt is better than those two teams – and should have won both!

  17. Capel said in the post game presser that he didn’t know what the team’s problem was in the first half

    I believe him

I at least can name several things

the final play of the first half by Pitt after a time out was emblematic, watch it,

    whatever it was 😦

  18. WP won’t allow me to post the post game presser at the point of Capel’s “answer”

this blog is hindered by WordPress, first half and second half and third half,

c’mon WordPress, don’t stink as bad as Jeff

trying again with the verbiage above added, iirc someone said can’t post a link alone so….

    1. genius

      me, not Jeff

not going to even try to post the play before halftime but down 4 we remained

as someone mentioned upthread, quite sure that “play” wouldn’t have succeeded against Mary and Mary
      ^^^that was good!

can’t wait until we actually need to score to win a game at the end, it’s going to be genius, this was just serving to set our opponent up for the surprise

it’s going to be awesome! wonder which of our 4 ACC wins it’s going to be 😦

  19. A couple of ifs

If Pitt wins tonight, Narduzzi again will again have the second most ACC wins during his tenure, not bad for a guy that can’t coach. How does he do it?

If the freshman point guard gets cleared this month it could change the trajectory of Pitt’s basketball season and make Capel a much better coach.

    1. they look far from one piece away

I like Jeff but it looks like he is far worse a coach that develops kids or understands how to get great or even good out of his recruits

AND he has certainly improved the program from where it was when he took over but I could’ve too(maybe) and this is his 6th year

I hope Dior returns if just to expose more of his shortcomings but then of course the excuse of the team needing to get used to playing together will remain(and that IS legit to some degree) yet I really don’t think if JC has a team of 8-10 guys together for 6 years WITH a leader parallel to Pickett that he ever coaches them up to win even half an ACC schedule, maybe close

I just do not see future success with the JC system unless he can recruit top 50 talent in at least 3 positions

      1. I don’t disagree about Capel overall, but a first rate point guard could make a world of difference. It is a huge weakness at this point. Someone that is highly skilled at passing and driving and finishing at the hoop would make everyone better. The lack of a true point guard will be devastating when ACC play starts.

I do agree that JC’s coaching does not appear to be anywhere near where it needs to be. I think the lack of any defense is most apparent. I find it dumbfounding that a guy that coached all those years with Coach K isn’t better organized offensively and defensively.

  20. The Quips of Aliquippa trounced neighboring Central Valley yesterday for the WPIAL Section 4 title. They just win, year in and year out.

Might be a good idea for Chris LaSala and MJ Devonshire to get that pipeline opened back up for Pitt again. There have a to be a couple players on that roster who can help the Panthers, right?

  21. Sticking to basketball our Lady Panthers face DePaul at 2PM. This is an intriguing matchup because both teams do not have height on their side. This will be a contest to test the shooting abilities of each team…maybe with some real defense and not too many turnovers we will win this afternoon.
