  1. Hoping Bam Brima sees the field a little more and he shows off his game.

Sir Vocea Dennis plays another great game and holds the Duke QB down. SVD has really picked up his tackling this year, his tackles are bigger hits.

The passing offense looks clumsy and disorganized.

Cig has no feel for the game and flow needed to beat the opposition.

  5. The problem with only passing when you have to is twofold. 1)the defense knows you’re throwing and 2)your receivers have zero rhythm since they’ve been doing nothing but blocking.

Better than Marian and the ol’ Whiparoo.
    Coach Pat even said so.
And you can really see the upgrades in today’s game.

    1. What game are you watching Gasman? The offensive play is a total downgrade. Not only that, but we clearly have the personnel to run Cigs game plans, yet still fail with the exception of IA. Also, who care what Narduzzi says or doesn’t say about his offense. He’s a defense guy and his deference to OC is uncanny.

There is no reason to waste a day like today if you are a casual fan. This is ska Terrible, boring team that makes the same mistakes over and over and over again. The QB is god awful and that’s nothing new.

As a side note, I still throw up in my mouth a little watching AJ Woods. Watch in person- always out of position, always run right past by the receiver and can anticipate breaks. Lots of tackles grabbing receivers from behind. He’s a mess to watch in person. If that is the best we have the recruiting is worse than we thought. This is not new. Every game, all year.

And you have him on the bench. You put a guy(C’Bo) in that hasn’t carried the ball all game.

And don’t blame me for being disloyal. I don’t feel good about how I feel. But I don’t bs myself. That maxim is more important to me than being loyal to an entertainment vehicle.

I really feel Patti should be the number 1 QB in practice. So what if we lose to Miami. At least we will have moved on from Slovis.

P.S. I don’t think Slovis is slow footed. He’s not fast but he’s not really slow either. I won’t reiterate why Slovis isn’t good because you all know why he’s not; it’s just not that he is slow.

    1) If I didn’t know better I’d say the Duzz owes something to the Youngstown wise guys. No other way to explain these coaching decisions.
    2) If this was a high school game I’d say the reason he’s playing is he’s the president of the school boards kid.
    3) Duzz seems to have no problem yanking his punters after a bad play.
    4) If you stick up for Cignetti you’re related.
    5) I actually, honestly feel bad for Slovis. I don’t think he’s horrible, I just think he is very average and the play calls do him no favors. Seriously, this one I mean.
    6) Wayne May be frustrating but he is by far, by far the best we have.
    6) Scored some Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, and Blanton’s as I was ar State Store when truck came in. I’d tell you I’m going to do some damage to that inventory, but this was just a typical game for a Pitt fan, so why waste good stuff?

    1. Problem is that a key factor for Clemson today was their QB faking a handoff and running the ball. At one point he had 10 carries and was averaging over 5 yards per carry. Miami won’t have that to worry about next week – unless we run the wildcat all day, but then they won’t have to worry about a pass…

Miami will be tough – they will not be mailing it in, as many will want to claim. When everything is on tape – athletes like these will not give up the chance to make plays.

  61. In case you are wondering what happened to the Pitt women’s volleyball team yesterday, it is very simple. They got their “clocks cleaned” by Louisville. Coach Fisher is not very happy. There were a multitude of problems starting with serve receive, poor passing, communications breakdowns, etc. One also has to give Louisville credit, they came to play whereas Pitt did not. Pitt got off to a very poor start and never got on track. Very, very disappointed in the way Pitt played. They picked a poor time to play their worst match of the season.

Pitt needs to regroup in time for the match against Georgia Tech on Wednesday. If they play like they did against Louisville, they will get beat again. If that happens, they may not make it to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA tournament as they will draw on of the better teams for their second game of the tournament. I doubt losing to Georgia Tech would mean not hosting the first round, but it may.

Pitt needs to win their last two match to share the ACC title with Louisville.

  64. Whoever said Slovis was “average”, I’d take that in a heartbeat…since his concussion, he has been way below average, and wasn’t exactly a Heisman front runner before. If we had Duke’s QB, we might be undefeated and staring at a national title, no joke. Why does Duke get a QB so much better than Pitt’s?! For all who said KP didn’t look good until his last year — not true…he looked good to very good much of the time but the rest of the team was pretty mediocre, or the OC was either asking too much or too little from him. He got better but you saw the ability there beforehand, for sure. Slovis, since his concussion, looks like a 3rd stringer, at best…endlessly off-target or forcing passes into heavy coverage.

  65. Slovis only had 6 quarters of action before he got hit vs Tennessee…I doubt getting his “bell rung” has led to the consistent bad play we have seen from him this year. He became a bench-warmer at USC for his play- which went down hill and he was relegated to the bench…Nard brings him to PITT with all the accolades…yep, we all see how that’s worked out. Time for Slovis to move on ….YOU AIN’T GOING NOWHERE (no NFL)

I said this after the spring game – Patti out performed Slovis and it wasn’t even close. Narduzzi is far to loyal to his own decisions, people, etc. it blinds him. In sports you have to be able to move quickly when play slips. Slovis should have been pulled on many occasions this year and not once did it happen. Even for a series.

I’d tell Slovis(won’t happen with Narduzzi) that Patti will start next week with Yarnell as my backup and you will be 3rd in line. Hopefully that would convince him to seek greener pastures for next season if he wants to play FB.

  68. I heard a few season ticket holders yesterday seated near me express they don’t want to renew if it is going to be the Slovis & Cig Show next season. Most of them ended up leaving when the students did because they knew the O was done for the day and they were right. Oy vey!

Mrs. Erie likes the tailgating (as do I) and the warmth of club seats. I’ll have a hard time bailing on King Pat, if for no other reason but to avoid disappointing Mrs. Erie.

  69. The poor decision making by Slovis is obvious an almost cost the game, but the defensive and special teams lapses were just as awful. When you add the penalties it makes it inexplicable that the game was won. Except that Pitt benefitted from some really strong play when they weren’t screwing up and Dukes special teams were as bad as Pitt’s and they did drop a touchdown pass.
Slovis is good for one nice touchdown drive per game, but with Izzy’s brilliance that is not nearly enough.
Slovis’ difficulties are made much worse by his receiver’s limited abilities. If that was Addison instead of Mumpfield, he catches that miss in the endzone and also breaks some of those short passes for long gains with probably an additional touchdown. But it also sad how many open receivers he overlooks and bad choices he makes.
It is really hard for me to discern how much of the poor offense is due to Cig’s play calling vs. extremely poor execution by Slovis and the receivers. It has looked like the O-line has done a much better job in the last three games.
How does a corner not get covered and blocks a punt without anyone noticing or a Duke receiver get wide open down the middle without a defender falling down?
How does Pitt win this game?
A few critical plays, the Duke fumble, the Duke muffed punt, the Duke touchdown drop, the Duke decision to go for two, the one good drive, some good defense for the first three quarters, Izzy Abanikanda.

    This is really good.

One thing that must be said, Pitt has lost many games like this, so SOP was avoided, we can be thankful for that this Thanksgiving.

Outside of that I have nothing to suggest.

  71. The offense is not scoring points. Especially in the second half of games. Say what you want about play calling, but the QB is responsible for executing the plays and Slovis has shown he is not able to do so. It doesn’t even appear that he he gets after people in the huddle or sidelines for not executing properly. It can and should be done in a positive manner, I just don’t see it at all.

  72. On a brighter note, 7 people had Pitt scoring 27 points. For Duke, the range for those 7 were from 14 to 24.

Two predictors had Pitt 27-Duke 24. Congratulations to Erie Express and frankmd.

Where I was wrong was predicting Pitt’s offense would score 2 FG’s in the 2nd half.

  74. Some thoughts:

–Boy do I miss Cal Adomitis. Seemed like every long snap was quick and on target. If a Cal snap went thru a punter’s hands, the punter would have a bruised sternum…

—Apparently it was Devonshire who messed up when that receiver was left uncovered for the long gainer along the sidelines. After the play, Devonshire was standing on the field with both hands on his helmet and other players were consoling him…

—Speaking of the sidelines, Pitt had two of those large heaters next to the benches and there were 8 or 9 players gathered at each one. A guy I noticed constantly there was the frosh WR from TX, Che. He must of been wondering what the heck he was doing up north…

—And for those who wonder why Pitt, or why Duzzer, can’t recruit a bunch of 4-stars, all you had to do was be at yesterday’s game. The atmosphere? What atmosphere. A bunch of fans clapping with gloves on doesn’t help. I hope there weren’t any recruits there…

    Go Pitt.

    2,135 yards (72nd)
    7 TD (tied 109th)
    8 INT (tied 78th)
    43.5 QBR (100th)

Narduzzi keeps rewarding the stellar play.

    1. Those stats give me hope – there are 65 P-5 QB’s so there are 35 lower level QB’s that could jump into the portal for a chance to compete at Pitt.

That hope get’s dashed when I think of Nick Patti and Nate Yarnell.

      Awful thoughts, just awful.

And just think just last season Pitt had a Heisman finalist at QB and the Biletnikoff Award winning WR.

King Pat has blown a golden opportunity to advance a program from mediocrity to relevance.

Look what TCU accomplished in its first year after terminating their long time, stable HC who was also a D minded coach.

      1. Your last point: Pitt wouldn’t know a good head coach if it was staring him in the face, which TCU was with Dykes at SMU.

Pitt would go the cheap route hiring a coordinator and give him the Pitt Special: a prove it contract.

I get notifications in the “bell” for every comment in an article I write, replies to any comment I make, and likes of my comments but I do not get emails except for “Likes”.

My suggestion, click on the “bell”. Dropdown window will appear. Under the term likes is a cog – click on it. This will take you to a notification window. Look for the “bell” in upper left. see if it says browser notification disabled. If it doesn’t there should be a button on right to turn it off. Make sure you save new setting located at bottom left,

  78. Ok this year has been a Pitt mess so, what happens next year when we need to hire a search firm to find a QB who is willing to be pummeled behind a weak OLine and have no receivers to throw to. Cignetti is not going to light up the lights on Broadway to attract a decent QB at this late date. Portal transfer from Weber State, UT Martin, Shippensberg or Brown (to sit on the bench). Negative thought yes, I don’t really care too much about the upcoming Miami game because it is meaningless…if we win so what—we might get a bowl against a lower ranked Big 10, 12, 14 team so what!! 2023 with a schedule from He– agreed to by Mrs. Lyke is going to be beyond ugly. If Slovis decides to come back instead of using his graduate degree to get on with his life (NO FOOTBALL LIFE) will he suddenly become a decent QB??
Negative thoughts//YES, but the real truth is that I think I am being realistic about our prospects to be battling it out with BC for the bottom of the ACC next year.

Basketball don’t even get me started!!

in no particular order I can’t stand Slow, Cig, WordPress, Means, Crumplefield, the pigheaded Duzz, our punting misfits, the wimpy press for not asking tougher questions, the vaunted d-line that barely touched Maye, the vaunted o-line returning, theD overall having progressed to allow only about 4 instances of wide open receivers to keep Duke in the game, the dropsy receivers, our penalty prone team, and gd WordPress again!

damn I would have been conflicted if Jordan Moore threw or ran for the game tying 2 point conversion
why the hell can’t I post pictures here in the comments any more? to hell with WP

btw, it was fun celebrating GT’s away win at UNC with a 3rd stringer QB who actually has PROGRESSED through this year as opposed to our savior SlowQBis(7 TD, 8 INT!!!)

  80. Slovis has played enough games to not make these poor decisions and KP had his legs to bail him out when guys didn’t get open or the line broke down. KP’s biggest improvement was being able to throw on the run which really improved over time. But the biggest improvemrnt was having Addison to throw to. He got open and made those tough catches, also Addison was the best YAC guy since Tyler Boyd.

  87. Well, golly gee, here’s what can happen if you are a HC who has the guts (and brains) to fire your OC mid-season. From The Athletic:

“Things were looking grim for second-year Boise State coach Andy Avalos back when the Broncos lost 27-10 at UTEP in Week 4 to start 2-2. After that game he made a change at offensive coordinator, elevating former Boise, Arizona State and NFL head coach Dirk Koetter. The Broncos (8-3, 7-0 MWC) have only lost once since, and on Saturday clinched their division with a 20-17 win at Wyoming (7-4, 5-2). “

  89. Sorry to say, but at this point, Kenny Pickett looks like he’s headed to becoming an AVERAGE NFL starting quarterback at BEST.

Now, that’s better than what I thought and a WHOLE lot better than what the majority of the Posters here thought prior to last year’s magical ride to an ACC Championship.

However, I’m going to give him the benefit of a doubt. Think it is only fair to wait and see what he can actually do when he has an Offensive Coordinator calling the shots other than Mr. Smoke ‘n Mirrors.

    1. If the line doesn’t improve, along with receiver speed and the coaching around him, Kenny will fail for sure. Today’s game turned on Muth’s hold when PIT was driving down 27-23. Ended up in 1st and 25, punted and the Bengals ripped through the defense to end it.

      Like

  90. It’s tough to evaluate Kenny this year. His OC stinks. His line stinks.

He doesn’t have the line, the back and the D that Big Ben had when he was a rookie. Plus he’s throwing far more than Ben did his first year.

Judge him in his second year. Every rookie gets a pass. It’s the sophomore year when you should see a leap.

  91. Kenny looking good at times, but about every fifth pass is a real head-scratcher for how off-target it is…

Before the season, I had doubted the Steelers would win more than one game in their division. At this point, that’s looking pretty accurate…

Need to get Kenny lots of help in the draft – offense and defense…
