  1. If Armstrong is 4x the qb that Slovis is we are really in trouble! Also as mentioned, Armstrong can beat us with his legs by scrambling, I cannot see him beating us today with his arm.

UVA and Pitt both had an air attack last year. Slovis is showing off his arm strength at least…

    1. That was strange, your offense is rolling, QB playing well….and you go to the wildcat
      and now 2nd & LONG !

  3. Ok, everything going perfect, then they go to wildcat, why?? Now, that IS on a too cute offensive coordinator. Why would you even need to try that? Keep defending him, though.

  4. Disappointing that Izzy is not getting ANY mention for Heisman. Unfortunately in large part due to Pitt’s poor showing.

  5. In the least, it’s a relaxing game to watch. Nothing on the line for this team and Slovis looks comfortable with a big lead. Hopefully he’ll get a chance to air the ball out some more.

    1. No secret that I have a problem with Cignetti. But scoring doesn’t seem to be a priority. Just more conservative BS; throwing slants and screen; justifying it because there’s a lot more game left to play. But see the drive before last: 2nd & 22 with a 28 point lead? And must we repetitively run Israel 1st & Goal when Carter and Davis are available?

        1. Neil, Woods has had some rough times on his man on man coverage but to call him the worst of all time crosses a line with me.

Let’s take this year for example, Means, Saul even Izzy after the first game were talked about being bad. It’s the hyper verbiage that just isn’t true.

This is a bad comment for me BUT, it isn’t my all-time worst. 🙂

  7. Our defensive effort on that last UVA possession could be big. Va had first and 10 on the 14 and came away without a point. That’s one more scoring possession they need in the second half.

And no shots into the end zone. Crummy series.

  11. Our offense has shut down in the second half. Just saw the terrible punt—- sorry POV’ers
we are a lousy football team. We will win this game against a weak team, but when Duzzi was tooting his horn early in the season he made a fool out of himself.
We have midgets trying to defend against receivers who are tall enough to play basketball.

How many times have we taken our foot off the gas and allowed teams to come back against
us…..we have this game in the bag, but UVA is a mess.

I think the Dookies are going to give us a very tough time. Slovis can not bring us back from behind and sad to say he probably will be back….he is not good enough to be signed as a free agent and with limited mobility he could not make a fast moving CFL team.

By the way what a difference a year makes, last year we watched a great game for the Coastal at Heinz, this year both teams were fighting for respectability. Hopefully this leads to a strong finish, but one game at a time. Defensive line living up to the hype.

Wayne slipping and Means’ drop were bad and didn’t help Slovis’ cause.

The D-line played like a bunch of wild dogs. Armstrong never had a chance.

I forecasted 2 turnovers and was right on, Izzy would have a good day, he did; defense with 5 sacks, they had 8; and Slovis would throw for 250 yds, he was a little short. Most importantly Pitt would win going away, they did..

  26. So Pitt has shown improvement for two games, a little hard to tell how much due to the weakness of the competition, but definite improvement of line play, better protection of Slovis, larger holes for Izzy, and much more pressure from the defense.
With the additional time Slovis has found receivers who have also gotten more open.

Lots of room for improvement with Slovis not leading his guys by just a little bit. The one he threw well Means dropped. The slip by Wayne was caused by the ball being well behind him.

If Slovis improves just a little bit, Pitt has a fighting chance to win out. Means with his best game as a Panther. Devonshire with another stellar effort. Kancy was an absolute beast.

Clemson and UNC the best by far in their divisions. Pitt fighting for second place in the Coastal, while disappointing, something worth fighting for.

Hoping the fans show up next week.

  30. It appears based on the box score that Blue Mtn Bart did not start yesterday’s game, nor did he have a ball thrown his way. He did show up on the non-starter participation list.

    Interesting…doghouse or injury?

Pitt’s offense scored 23 points yesterday, under the season average of 27. The team is averaging 30 points per game with three pick 6’s and a punt return TD.

I think we are in for an entertaining game vs Duke. The blue devils average 35 points per game – they lost 2 games, both by 3 points. Can Pitt’s D hold Duke’s O to under 24 points?

    1. I was wrong on three pick 6’s this season – I missed one – should be four.

Devonshire & Williams with two each – found this at PSN –

“It was the second time this year that each player had a ‘pick six’ in a game. Devonshire’s one against West Virginia drew the attention, but Williams had one of his own against Western Michigan. They are the first players for Pitt to have two pick sixes in a season since Darrelle Revis accomplished that feat back in 2006.”

      Mighty fine company…

  32. Just my opinion but when you win 37-7, complaining about how few points the offense scored seems kind of petty. Even Narduzzi did it, although he was complaining about drive killing penalties which is problematic. The offense scored it’s two touchdowns when needed most to put the game on ice and not let VA to get up off the ground, that is the most important critique of the offense.

So, how much does a good QB contribute to winning? I saw part of this game and Moorehead is cool under fire and has a strong accurate arm…a huge pickup for Haffley as Jurkovec’s
sad college career comes to an end.

I also watched some of the Carolina vs. Wake game and Maye is truly outstanding and will definitely play on Sundays. We need Minchey to show that he is the real deal because Slovis absolutely does not rank as a top ACC QB. He will not be drafted and will probably not be picked for an NFL Practice squad.

  38. Rick – I do remember Bartholomew getting one pass thrown his way. Bart was running down the sideline with a defender on his inside but some room between Bart and the sideline. Perfect setup for a back-shoulder throw to the taller Bart. Unfortunately Slovis threw a bullet to the outside instead of putting a bit of air under it, so Bart had no time to make the needed adjustment…

Maybe Slovis and Bart should enroll in a chemistry class – because so far, they don’t have any…

    1. Big difference between being the number 1 vs number 2 guy, got to make tougher catches in a crowd. Wayne with a similar experience fairing a little better than Bart. Also Slovis is not KP as far as hitting guys in stride. Although I think his timing is improving and will get better, needs to hit guys when they get open not a couple seconds later.

Fans need to recognize that last year guys had played in the same system and had many reps with much better timing, along with a few really talented guys. Slovis is not KP, Wayne is not Addison, Mump is not Mack, Bart is not Krull, but they aren’t bad and only had one awful game.

Defense starting to make more big plays and passing game is improving, hoping it continues this week.

  41. Before getting overly excited about the sacks, we should remember that Richard provided us with some great research and my recollection was that Virginia was ranked between the 110-120’s for sacks allowed, out of 131 teams. That is bad awful. Yes we got a bunch. Pitt was also ranked in top 10 for sacks by the defense, so it makes sense it was a sackage fest.

Thanks for the shout out Voice. Only made sense for a Pitt blowout. The difference between Pitt’s offense and let’s say Tenn or OSU and the like is that the coaches of those teams have offensive and defensive goals for every game that they want to work towards, and if that means scoring 50, 60, or 70, they will do it. They are always grinding towards getting better. Our guy just isn’t. He got two pick 6’s early and was laughing on the sideline like wow, this is easy! Great teams, coached by great coaches, NEVER settle or think things are easy until the game is over.

I don’t feel good about this season if they go 8-4 because the conference and division is awful. I hope they do that, but am not confident in that result. Syracuse lost at home yesterday with their better qb, 38-3. We beat Syracuse at our home, with a first game starter at qb, last week, 19-9. Very comparable result in time, place and circumstance.

  45. Pretty easy for me to figure out when someone says the ACC is down this year. It’s because of Clemson and PITT losing winnable games.

Beware of a long-winded convoluted rant: PITT beats Syracuse without their starting QB but they do have their all-American RB, thus tarnishing the PITT win, but the realist win.

Narduzzi goes 1-4 in bowl games. Realists win again.

Now dig this. PITT plays Michigan State in a bowl game without their all-American QB, and only experienced back getting hurt a few minutes and PITT lost the bowl game. I admit that this game was real bigtime important to me You all know the story.

Me personally would think that any “realist” would “realize’ that there is a double standard there. It’s not being realistic, it’s without a doubt in my mind that its negative.

Before anyone calls me out here for labeling commenters negative, please go back and count the times some folks are call Kool-Aid Drinkers.

Now Huff the Third, I’m not talking about you or your comment on the PITT sacks, I’m referring to another realist buddy. Although come to think of it, your comment does have a little negative spin on it.

btw Please keep me on your Prayer list Huff the Third my friend, I’m going through some tough times right now. Don’t worry anyone, still have plans on making it to Red 5-A again.

    1. Nah, my friend. Not negative at all. See what I did there? Two negatives equal a positive. Just tempering the enthusiasm by providing a reference to the numbers. I was happy they got eight and wished they could have gotten nine. Actually, number 11 had a wide open sack and missed. Now that leaned a little negative, sorry. I picked Pitt in a blowout win. Not even a slight negative there.

For Clempson to win, Ukelele must play in harmony, like a fine tuned instrument. He really has struggled for years in my opinion, hence the decline in clempson dominance. I also think that for years, the ACC was better, but the last two are different. As NIL plays out, the PAC should surpass the ACC more consistently. Hope your friend doesn’t like my answer. They are 60th in the nation right now. It doesn’t help when your OC calls run plays in third and long situations. I believe he did that at least twice this past Saturday.
Miami will have the D line to shut down Pitt’s run game so Pitt better improve the passing game a lot more in the weeks to come.

Please, tell me again it’s just easy to blame the OC. What ya gonna believe, what they tell you or your own lyin eyes? The guy is really, really behind the times. This actually should have been an outstanding recruiting year, but it’s gonna flop. Oh, and tell me all about the 3*s that they’ll coach up. I’m all for optimism, but that thinking will get you one big time season every 30 yeas. And if you look at the future schedules, well, be honest with yourselves, they will struggle to hit .500, so we’ll see what all those hard games do for Attendence when they go 4-8.

    1. Minchey’s de-commitment has bad news written all over it. There is no way to spin this into a positive. I just don’t understand why it took so long. At least if Minchey did it when ND offered, it would have given Pitt some time with other targets.

I also don’t understand why some were saying he was enrolling in January…well I guess he will be only it will be for ND or some other SEC school.

How many more decommits will there be? Can Pitt just decommitt from Cigs already.

I have been anti-Cigs since 10/31/01 (the date of my last Marlboro Light). I tried to give this Cigs a chance in 2022. The results are the same: their products both stink and are bad for my health.

It has hit me that we are headed toward a total collapse (yeah, only one player..there will be more backing out). We lose some players who will be paid for Sunday football on defense and Izzy is 100% gone.

Well, we had at least one very good year with Pickett and Addison….and sad to say we are reverting back to SOP in spades.

  57. Can’t blame Minchey in the least and wish him luck at Notre Dame or wherever.

We have a HC with the personality of an ogre and an OC with a 60s offense that inspires ennui. But…. What a shame!

The way recruiting is going for Duzz/Pitt, we may look back at the Slovis era as “the good old days!”

It’s easy to blame coaches and I get the knee jerk reaction, but in an era when a team can steal your best guy who won a Bilitnekoff while at your program, can be stolen with $$$$, when he hasn’t even entered the portal, what chance does Pitt have to hold on to any quality player that a Football Factory wants?

This really isn’t anything new, the rich have always got richer. Recruiting has always been the biggest challenge for Pitt and will continue to be that way. Can a hypothetical new and improved coach do better, of course, but they could also do worse as we have learned time after time.

Will Minchey be the next Drake Maye, time will tell, it is a lost opportunity for Pitt, a big one, but not a guarantee.

  60. Too easy to jump on the negative, but I won’t. I may have mentioned Minchey not committing a month or so ago, and then about a week ago, psn said he was all in, early enrollee and about how firm thy commitment was. And now a week later and poof, he disappears. Slovis comes back for sure now more than ever and the head coach will prioritize the commitment to Slovis for staying. If there is good news (and i do look for that), it is that none of our remaining commitments seem to have been recruited by Minchey.

Secondly, and this one will surprise everyone that reads it. I feel extremely bad for the signed football from all the commitments. Imagine the road rash on the ball now that they have had to scratch off three of the signatures.

  61. I would guess the NIL monster reared its head. We will lose to it every time. It is open season on these kids and money ALWAYS talks. College sports is semi pro now.

  62. I have to admit from the day Minchey committed I never thought he would end up at Pitt but it still sucks.

  63. I think the sooner we all accept the fact that the word “commitment” no longer applies in the world of college athletics, the better off we will be. Whether we are talking about players you want to sign, players you have already signed, or players already on your team. Commitment is that elusive unicorn.

  64. The timing with Minchey certainly suggests an NIL offer he couldn’t refuse. I was hoping that promising him playing time as a freshmen might hold him at Pitt.

I always thought that an under-appreciated aspect of Whipple was that he was able to generate decent stats for Receivers and QBs, so he was indirectly a recruiter of those positions…. We don’t have that card anymore…

    Go Pitt.

  65. Like many other P5 colleges, the Pitt coaches try to bond with these recruits so that they won’t listen to offers from other colleges. This helps but cannot replace a $3 million NIL package. Pitt should adopt a strategy of maintaining a relationship with these top players so they can recruit them on the rebound when they eventually hit the portal.

  66. The idiotic Cignetti hire strikes again. All another coach has to do is point out Frank’s historically horrible QB stats. Why would any QB think playing for him is a good idea?

Narduzzi needs to move on from Cignetti immediately after the last game.

  67. And just to add to everyone’s mood regarding the Minchey decommitment, I have it on VERY SOLID AUTHORITY that our stud TE Blue Mountain Bart, will be in the portal soon after the season ends. Can you blame him? He has been a complete afterthought in the offense for weeks.

    1. JoeL made that point about Blue Mtn possibly hitting the portal if he wasn’t getting targeted about 3 weeks into the season….back to the transfer portal for a few more of those “quality”TE’s back in the day we couldn’t recruit a single one!!!
Who could blame him…. Wonder if Yarnell will stick around…

  68. You know I’m not a big sark guy because I don’t think he has enough brains but may have enough meatballs. But I’d want to play for him. Just like Mike gottfried. And all it takes is one quarterback. Sark got arch. Narduzzi got nothing. Hey at least Pitt has stability just like the Steelers. Nothing to show for it in years though. Hang me on the cross boys. I’ll enjoy it.

  69. It’s tough to get NIL money for players when your coach has meatballs for brains, your booster base is listless except for the nut job that pays king pats salary, and your AD got turned down from Michigan state who was desperate for a compliance person. And no it wasn’t because she wears yellow.

  70. So Heather jumps the shark and overpays narduzzi. Because…. He got her the job. He’s done decent against some very bad acc teams. No denying that. But, Let’s just ignore his record against non acc ranked teams including his bowl record. Not sorry to say, he’s just an overpaid bum short of a few meatballs.

PS: I do wonder who king Pat would assign to me if I attended a fundraiser or meet and greet. However I seriously doubt he’s ever taken down a Texas steer. There’s no cowboy in the man.

    Awaiting word on funeral services.
Rick came to my tailgates before I started reading the POV.
Some in that group have passed. Others have just stopped coming to games.
Made me think how those guys are now replaced by the POV family for me and I how much I appreciate that.
    RIP Rick.

  72. Kenny Pickett’s athleticism should be the minimal requirement for a Pitt QB. KP had a good combo of arm, athleticism and field vision. That won’t guarantee the kid will be a good QB but you can’t have a slow QB in today’s game unless they have an absolute cannon of an arm.
Slovis is obviously below that mark in speed but he isn’t a statue, he just never runs. Maybe he can’t get enough momentum to slide, lol.
Can Yarnell run or is Pitt wasting it’s time?

    1. Slovis looks kind of average once he gets going. His problem is it takes him five steps to get up to speed and the first couple steps are really, really slow – so he can’t even get away from a defensive tackle…

Small sample but Yarnell doesn’t look like he’d have quickness either…

Should maybe look more at the 6-1, 6-2 guys…. Everyone will be after a tall QB who is elusive…

      Go Pitt.
