MMQB: The Natives Are Getting Restless

monday-morning-qbI’m not sure anyone should be all that surprised at what happened on Saturday evening when the University of Louisville (UL) beat Pitt by a score of 24-10. At least I wasn’t as I predicted a very close game.  Which it was score-wise until we gave them our fourth gift of the game with a returned for TD fumble by our ex-USC QB Kedon Slovis.

It was a slow and rather boring game with the respective total yardage numbers for each team (Pitt-326; UL-312) being just about the same as Izzy’s rushing total of 320 last week against Virginia Tech. The score was 7-7 at halftime; 10-7 Pitt at the end of 3rd quarter and 17-10 UL until 3:03 left in the game.  That is when Slovis executed a hand off of the ball to a UL defensive back who took it 59 yards to the house and made the final score. Unfortunately it was UL’s house and not Pitt’s.

An Open Letter to Pat and Frank

Don’t change your quarterback fellas.

Because Kedon Slovis is awesome.

Because he’s making all the right reads.

Because he’s got great pocket presence

Because the offensive line is soooo in synch with him.

Beacuase the recievers are totally on the same page with him

Because he put up 10 points…against a defense that struggled against Boston College.

Because he’s got a 38 QBR against the blitz (probably worse after tonight)

Because the guy who toiled and stayed loyal in your program, who the guys in the locker room totally respect, can’t do better.

Because you’re not wasting your defense on this clown.

Because consistency is soooo doggone important.

No guys.  Give him another chance or five.  He’ll come around.  I’m sure of it.

So are all the fans that are tuning out. Good luck against UNC and Syracuse.

2022 Season Up Next: Pitt at Louisville

I am Back but first a POV Public Service Announcement.

Michaelangelo (Mike) has asked me to announce that the Women’s Volleyball, Women’s Soccer and Men’s Soccer schedules are now on the POV. Those schedules are located on the left-hand side of the latest current posted article.

Speaking of Mike, I want to thank him for picking up the “Up Next” series during my nearly one-month absence. Now back to the article.

Both Pitt and Louisville are going into week eight of the college football season off byes. Based on ACC standings, Pitt currently stands tied for third (w/Miami) in the Coastal Division with an overall record of 4 – 2 (1-1 ACC, 3-1 OOC). Louisville sits at 3 – 3 (1-3 ACC, 2-0 OOC) and is tied for sixth place (w/BC) in the Atlantic.

I am now in color coding mode. Red is for Transfer Portal (TP) entries. Green is for season ending injuries. Names highlighted in yellow are defensive players starters. (Games started are next to players names.)

On to the review, starting with NCAA team stats through October 15”th  games. There are 131 FBS teams this year with the move of James Madison to the Sun Belt Conference. I am using a new NCAA stat list. The new list includes all 47 statistics that the NCAA tracks at a  team level. The old one only had 25. Besides national FBS ranking, the new chart adds conference rankings. I also sorted the stats by type so that offense, defense. and miscellaneous stats are grouped.

Here are the NCAA offensive stats comparison after week 7 action:
