How to Create & Write a Successful Blog…

It would be great if someone knew how to do it – right? Kidding aside, my daughter and I did a class/lecture on this subject last Thursday and got great feedback from the in-person attendees.

But when we delivered the “How to Create and Write a Successful Blog”  lecture that evening there was a problem with the audio portion of the main presentation so those on zoom missed most of my talk. Only the initial lead-in and the ending Q&A session had recorded audio.

With that, we recreated a video of the lecture and posted it on YouTube.  It can be found here:

The Library Blogging Class also had a document titled “Get Going Fast – A Blogging Checklist”. If you want a copy of that just email me and I’ll send it right out to you. The quality way you all comment (and write articles sometimes) makes me believe that any of you could do a blog – if you choose to.

Best of Luck if you do and don’t hesitate to ask me anything about it. I’ll be very glad to help…

As far creating and writing a blog … I give credit to Reed for all of the time and effort required to do so. It has to be a labor of love to do so. Apparently Reed has done such a great job for the POV to be the continued success it is, as many blogs have come and gone in that time.

  2. Reed, your continuing dedication to the POV is amazing and much appreciated! We can all learn a great deal from your commitment to Pitt and to veterans and your community. Thanks for all that you do.

  3. Reed. What enjoyed most about your presentation was your honesty and integrity. Up front, you said it takes an ego to begin a blog. Then you explain that it will likely not be money-making enterprise. And you continued with the specifics without glorifying anything while at the same time, making the point of attaining self-satisfaction.

  4. Reed you carry on the tradition established many years ago at Pitt that made our University a center for teaching writing. If any POV’ers had English Comp taught by the GREAT Dr. Edwin Petersen and his “magic lantern” you will all fondly remember how important writing simple declarative sentences were in Pantherland. The POV is a labor of love and we are all the beneficiaries of one of the most informative, challenging, and sometimes frustrating blogs to be found anywhere covering sports. Dr Petersen would give you a solid A !!!.

  5. Soon we’ll have a prediction article. On second thought maybe we do one right before fall camp starts then another after it closes.

Might be necessary with a new starting QB no matter who it is.

BTW it really should be called “late summer camp” but that will never catch on.

    1. Narduzzi is a fool. He had mister charmin and small hands Kenny to thank for his only success in 8 long years. Only a bad man with a king Louis complex would do that. And I mean bad in the worst way. Meatballs is garbage and not the kind that a homeless person would even eat.

    3. And what if states star running back played. If ands and butts. Excuses. Trying to rationalize away his poor bowl record. And his over reliance on a heisman caliber QB which he won’t even closely have this year. By seasons end he will earn the moniker of most overpaid P5 HC. There will be no doubt unless you’re drunk on mustard koolaid. So that’s 99 percent of y’all.

I would also stick up for everyone’s rights to continue to do so….. no matter how stupid their thoughts are. About those thoughts… they are continually proven wrong over and over again with no acknowledgment from the bitter author.

    1. That’s the problem with stats though. In context, Pitt was very pass happy. They ran more with leads this past season which skewed the data. In the throes of a game still to be determined, it was not balanced. 10 wins gave them some additional rushes which should be the case. But, Pitt never ran to establish the run. That is not debatable. And I’m fine with pass happy. I prefer it. But, no coach who played Pitt would say their balance was tough to prepare against.

  8. One can forecast negative predictions for any team in the country. As long as you set acceptable “success” at 9, 10, or 11 wins, you will be right most of the time. And when you are wrong, just declare that a fluke or a unique situation. I’d say that is getting old but it was actually old a couple of years ago.

    1. I understand that our Coach has an eight-win ceiling. That means 7 wins (87%) would be an excellent year and 8 wins (100%) would be outstanding.

      I think I have that right. 😊

      Go Pitt.

      Liked by 2 people

        1. Come on, Lone. You must admit that if a guy’s ceiling is 8 and he gets to 7, that’s pretty darn good… 😊

          Go Pitt.

          1. I’d like to bust through any ceiling. If narduzzi is worth eight million, he’d find a way to get 9 or ten plus a bowl win. But as a former coach I know it’s all about your talent. Unless you have some short term innovative scheme. Think bills and no huddle. Although the talent on that team was superior. Didn’t make marv leavy a genius. He’s in the HOF thanks to smith, Kelley, Thomas and others.

    1. Correct on the Spring injury, but if you read the whole article it points out that this same injury occurred in high school.

Pitt’s access to some of the world’s best medical facilities and personnel was huge for this young man and his family.

Mr. Pope is assisting the LB coach and may someday enter the coaching profession according to HC Narduzzi.

  10. The guy definitely speaks his mind and I agree with him. While there are some plusses to the new system the division system was more predictable and more favorable to Pitt. Also better to develop rivalries over time.

While there are benefits to the fans seeing the other schools more often, the luck of the draw will also be more apparent.

  11. Regarding the debate on Whipple, his system worked well when you had a healthy KP and Addison and certainly fun to watch. With a third string QB under that system no one beats Michigan State. A stronger running game might have made a difference.

    Liked by 1 person

  12. It took 3 years for KP to master the spread. Now Pitt appears to look at another 3 year phenomenon to be the base of the team … the OL. Without the 2 biggest playmakers, it may be prudent to play more ball control. And it will also help out the defense.

There are still a handful of receivers who can make plays, but the explosiveness may be lacking.

  14. Well an 8 million dollar coach. The second highest paid in acc. With essentially a lifetime contract at Pitt. Feels protected. What he says though is garbage. The sec is by far the best conference. The big ten may be on par with the acc and big 12. But to say Pitt would have beaten state by two touchdowns with a healthy patti is ludicrous. State was missing their best player as well. King Pat is all talk. What’s his bowl record? How many times has his team been ranked? How’s that secondary?

But some on here sure do like the taste of garbage.

  15. Blue Mountain Bart as EE likes to say was put on the Mackey Watch List for the 2022 award as best TE for the year. Quite an accomplishment for a sophomore that our “over paid HC”(by some posters on the POV) stole away from his Buffalo commit. According to a PSN write-up today Bart added and additional 5 lbs of mussel to his 6’6” frame to stand at 260 currently.

  16. Everyone has an opinion….so here is mine. Narduzzi is the best PITT coach in a long time. I wasn’t happy that we lost to W. Michigan last season and that was a low point but his players (our PITT Panthers) seem to love him and they play hard under his leadership. He might not be perfect but he is perfect for PITT. He is a PITT man and he stands up and defends our program and our players. Oh, and we are the ACC champions!

    1. Narduzzi is the right coach if you value certain things. Your value system is not mine.

If you value seven win seasons

If you value not winning your bowl

If you value recruiting three stars

If you value being competitive in the coastal

If you value a top 25 ranking every eight years

If you value getting some players drafted

If you value good character and graduation rates

If you value a top 60 brand.

Then by all means, go all in with king Pat.

      I won’t begrudge you.

Just not my kind of drink.

But please don’t say I’m anti Pitt or trash me because I’m Texan…22 years in the Lone Star Republic. Although I’m always Appalachian at heart.

  17. Nobody cares about bowls? It’s easy to beat up on Cuse each year and the trash teams in the coastal. Everyone cares about final rankings. The bowls are always included in that equation. Tell me I’m wrong on that.

And Jason you are wrong. Since when is a perennial seven win coach anything but mediocre. Only at Pitt and only in the acc. That’s where. Not down here.

  18. Link: Pitt’s Bartholomew on Mackey Watch List

Gavin Bartholomew Named to Mackey Award Watch List

Pitt Sophomore Among Candidates for Outstanding Tight End

PITTSBURGH – Pitt sophomore tight end Gavin Bartholomew was named to the John Mackey Award watch list on Friday as a preseason contender to be selected college football’s outstanding tight end.

Bartholomew (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue Mountain) went from unheralded recruit to impact true freshman last season in helping the Panthers win the 2021 ACC title.

Forming an extremely productive one-two punch with Pitt veteran presence Lucas Krull, now with the New Orleans Saints, Bartholomew became one of Kenny Pickett’s favorite targets as the season progressed, especially in third down and red zone situations.

Bartholomew played in all 14 games during his debut season for the Panthers, compiling 28 catches for 326 yards (11.6 avg.) and four touchdowns. He was named a second team Freshman All-American by The Athletic and Pro Football Network and also earned Honorable Mention All-ACC honors.

His role continually increased throughout the 2021 season both as a blocker and receiver, with all four of Bartholomew’s touchdowns coming in ACC games. He found the end zone against Virginia Tech, Duke, North Carolina and Syracuse down the stretch, helping Pitt win its first outright conference title.

But perhaps the most memorable moment from Bartholomew’s rookie campaign wasn’t a touchdown. At Syracuse, the 6-foot-5, 255-pound showed his physicality and cemented his status as a fan favorite by trucking over an Orange defender with a violent broken tackle and carrying another Syracuse player past the first down marker and out of bounds.

Encapsulating the toughness and underdog mentality that helped propel Pitt to a championship in 2021, Bartholomew now aims to take the next step in his career as the Panthers’ top tight end and one of the top players at the position in the conference and the entire country.

Bartholomew and the Panthers open the 2022 campaign with the renewal of the Backyard Brawl against West Virginia on Sept. 1 at Acrisure Stadium. ESPN’s College GameDay will provide coverage from the game, which is one of the most anticipated contests of the first full week of the college football season.

Pitt football season tickets, which start at just $180, are currently on sale at PittsburghPanthers.com. For pricing, seating maps, season ticket holder benefits and more, click here or call (800) 643-7488.

  20. Tex – You’re wrong. Not because of your value system but because you spend way too much time on people and resources who don’t influence your value system. The last 40 years have shown that. New coach, same results … Every. Single. Time … Same floor. Same ceiling. You complain about everything and everyone but I hate to break it to you, you support a school that does not have the financial support, not do they want the financial support, that you want. New coach won’t change a thing. See Mike Godfried. See Hackett. See Walt Harris. See Wanny. See Fraud. See Chryst. See Duzz. The coaches and facilities are irrelevant. When the University is all in on athletics they’re a top 10 program historically. Stop wasting your time with anything outside of Pitt leadership. And I’m talking leadership outside of the athletic department. Pitt decided a long time ago that it was not going to sign it’s soul to the devil for glory. That’s the reality. Yet here we are complaining about a coach who just won Pitt’s first outright conference championship ever and is getting more and more positive buzz as the new season approaches. It’s all nonsense. You can keep calling yourself a fan. I can’t define that for you. But, man, do you go down buzzard and nonexistent and pointless rabbit holes to try and prove your points. You more than anyone understands the role the BOT plays in all of this yet you keep yelling at the person at the front desk. They’ll nod and apologize and ask how can they make it better out of courtesy … but they aren’t agents or change nor do they have an ability to be an agent for change. It blows my mind that you think Heather or Duzz are agents for change. Or better yet that replacing them will put agents of change in charge. Hilarious.

There is a reason a lot to love about Pitt. Stop being distracted by crap out of your control. Or at least channel your energies to the right places. I get not liking a coach. I hated every moment of the Chryst era and I’m not even a big fan of Duzz if I’m being truly honest, but he delivered this season. Pitt had a great season and has great buzz this season. But, no, we have a dumb coach and dumb stadium and a dumb AD and a dumb conference and dumb basketball program and a dumb baseball team and a …

Matt Concalves- part time starter / Ryan Jacobi (OSU transfer – played quite a few minutes last year /. Branson Taylor – saw action last 2 years / 3-stars Terrence Enos and Terrence Moore – RS Soph / Russ Baer – incoming 4 star

There are also 2 more incoming 3-stars as well as the converted TE transfer from BYU who converted to OL. That makes 9 reserves who will return in 2023, and I probably left a couple out
