  1. Avonte Maddox gets 3-year $22.5M extension. Pretty good for a little runt

And speaking of runts, K’Wuan Williams still playing for the 49ers — believe this is his 9th or 10th year in the NFL

  4. Early reports say Armstrong out on the field throwing fairly well. Looks like Pitt will have to bring the A game today.

  5. On the field no Mack, Barden or Stovall. I think we knew mark and Barden were not going to be available but were hoping for Stovall to be suited. Not good for a depleted WR group. Hammond was suited up and it looks like he is available to play.

  6. By the way Wake Forest is being destroyed by Clemson both by the score and physically as many of their players have limped off the field. With a couple of breaks Clemson just may win the Atlantic division.

  7. Gonclaves at RT and Zubovic at RG which probably means Huey is not good to go as the starter. That weakens our OL since both Gonclaves and Zubovic did not play very well against NC and and as a result KP was pressured on the blitz coming from that side. Hopefully the extra practice helped those two get their act together.

    1. Crazy that the Dennis hit didn’t draw a flag, live. Tough start. Defense needs to bow up and force a fg attempt, which will be a shankapotommous!

  13. It’s almost impossible for Dennis to pull up there. The receiver was already being tackled and Dennis led with his arms. Unfortunately, the guy’s helmet came down during the tackle and they collided.

  18. looks like we can run very well today..and pass too! porous defense! we will bounce back. We should run right through them.

  19. That targeting call wasn’t just big on the first drive or because Dennis is out. #9 just had a chance to light up a receiver and pulled up.

  20. This is a good qb – hurt or not. We can’t let the receivers run side open all day and hope KP can outscore them. Dangerous game to play.

    Like

  21. As mentioned earlier..we should run right thru them. run to set up deep pass to 3.

virgina has trouble tackling because they only use their arms.

    Like

  22. Pitt should win this game very easily. Virginia defensively tackles with their arms. They look like a high school defense as far as tackling. In other words, soft, so far. This is the first I have watched them so I hope that poorness continues.

Pitt can run through them and or pass through them.

Defensively, we need to remain disciplined. Their qb is good, but if we maintain discipline, we will be fine. They do not have a running back that scares me that I have seen, but we are only a little over a quarter in. The qb and big WR/TE a formiddable right now, but they are too reliant on that.

  28. He does agree with me in this team’s refusal to cover any receiver. It is so bad, it has to be intentional as part of the scheme to simply not cover anyone and confuse the QB with multiple wide open options.

Do you all think it is simply a lack of athletes as 2 stars just cant hang? Our guys are slow and weak in the back and have been for years.

Any good qb makes it look like playing a video game on “beginner” level.

    The defense just sucks today.

  30. Can Pitt’s defense get a stop? They seem helpless against the pass. 90% of Armstrong’s passes are to the left side. Not enough pressure. Armstrong has too much time to throw.

Is his downfield accuracy limited due to his injury or is he ok?

  34. This is NOT prevent defense. It is pathetic. Thank god for the D line! The DBs and LBs can’t cover average to below average athletes.

These aren’t pinpoint passes in to tight coverage! These are easy lobs to wide open guys. Period, end of story. This isn’t just scheme, it’s slow athletes.

We will have to outscore them and get a couple sacks in the 2nd half. The D line will have to do it.

I thought the interception hit the ground too, but upon a slower look, it hit a hip and then i lost sight of the ball. All three angles couldn’t confirm the ground therefore, play call on field stands.

What is the rule on targeting in college football?
The 2019 NCAA Rule Book defines targeting as when a player “takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or legal block or playing the ball.”

    Like

    1. Targeting elements include:

      Rule 9-1-3:

      (a) A player takes aim at an opponent for the purposes of attacking with forcible contact with the crown of the helmet.
      (b) An indicator of targeting is present.
      2. Rule 9-1-4:

      (a) A defenseless opponent (Rule 2-27-14).
      (b) A player takes aim at a defenseless opponent for the purposes of attacking with forcible contact to the head or neck area.
      (c) An indicator of targeting is present.

you can argue all you want about the intent of attacking…however, the ref interpretted the fact the ball was jarred loose as an attack of a defenseless opponent.

When was the last time a Pitt receiver had 4 TDS?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Had to be Fitz. And you are indeed lucky to have missed the announcers. Probably the worst announcing crew espn has.

      Like

  61. we can blame refs on targeting, but remember they didnt call penalties on either targeting when it was live. For that reason alone, I can’t say the refs tried to hose us. They were called targeting (both correctly) after they were reviewed.

Now there were a couple of other calls that were questionable but nothing big in my opinion. Everything aligned. Picketts last td was an interception in waiting. He missed 86 running underneath.

bronco should have kicked fg on 4th down because he needed two scores. he needed to give his team a chance and he blew it!

Tat said, coastal championship fellas!! congrats!

    Liked by 1 person

  62. still disagree but…

So what is targeting in college football?
Simply put, the targeting rule prohibits players from making forcible contact against an opponent with the crown of the helmet, which the NCAA defines as “the portion of the helmet above the level of the top of the facemask.” That means it has to be more than a legal tackle or block or playing the ball, and when in question, it’s ruled a foul.

Although these are not all the indicators of targeting, here are some defined by the NCAA rulebook:

Launch — a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet are still on the ground
    .
Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area
    .
Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet

    1. shared this in your earlier post…

      (c) An indicator of targeting is present.

you can argue all you want about the intent of attacking…however, the ref interpreted the fact the ball was jarred loose as an attack of a defenseless opponent and it did hit the head.

Narduzzi will want that 10th win for sure. Big difference in the head coaching world between 9 and 10 regular season wins.

Pickett could add 400 yards or so with multiple TD’s to his Heisman resume. Plus Narduzzi could use Pickett and the Heisman for an excuse to play him.

If PITT wins 12 games this year, Narduzzi would be one of only two head coaches in PITTs football history to have done it.

    Hail to Pitt!

  87. The difference yesterday was that KP and Addison were slightly better than Marion and Wix.
Give Marion a ton of credit, he must have been hampered since he ran very little, usually a big part of his game. Their number 99 is a special player too.

Our D was also slightly better in that they did stop the run. Amazingly without Dennis.

Our special teams were special, Izzy’s spectacular run, and Addison’s big return.

So many big plays, none bigger than Addison’s final catch of that contested ball. Phenomenal!

Doubtful that KP wins the Heisman, but he deserves it as much as anyone.

  88. What a year, as much as the ACC screwed us with scheduling last year, this was the best home schedule that I can remember and with a team that took advantage of it.

  89. Likely Atlantic Division scenario. Wake gets beat by Jurkovec, Wake is toast. Jurk auditioning for the NFL.
Unc vs Ncst a toss-up another audition but Ncst defense comes through, to save Pitt from the dreaded rematch. Another best game of the year in the Championship game.

    1. I was surprised to find out that UNC QB (Howell) did not play against FCS Wofford. Seems he suffered an upper body injury (non throwing Arm/shoulder) during the Pitt game.
