  1. Everyone uses their own historical metrics to make predictions:
    Record after a bye.
    Record in the rain.
    Away games in Virginia.
    On and on
I’ll resort to Pitt performance after Coach Pat proclaims them to be disrespected.

    Pitt – 13

    Hope I’m wrong.

    1. Don’t like this prediction stuff, but my wild guess is:
      Pitt 34
      VT 24

I’ll be a wreck from the time I get up until the final gun. Which is why I like the noon away games — so the verdict is in early!

      I like ike!

      Go Pitt.

  2. I liked Pitt to win this game right up until Duzz played the respect card. That has yet to turn out well for Pitt. I watched Burmeister Hokie QB drive a good NDame D crazy last week. Pitt is awful vs RPO and special teams are a net disadvantage.

  3. The disrespect comment was sooooo ridiculous. A 4-1 team that beat 2 mediocre power 5 teams and 2 cupcakes and got shredded by a MAC team that lost by dozens to Ball State? What respect do we deserve? With his track record to boot? He is absolutely clueless.

  4. Pitt Volleyball Note: Pitt loses the first set in Miami and then rights the ship with a reverse sweep winning the next three sets. Very good moral booster for the team to come back after the loss to Georgia Tech. Pitt is now in sole possession of second place in the ACC. #9 Jordan Lockwood left the match during the second set in a lot of pain with some sort of ankle injury. Wishing her a speedy recovery. Hopefully it is not very serious! Need her for the tournament!

Next match is Sunday at 1:00 PM at Florida State on the ACC network for those of you who wisely do not subscribe to Comcast.

My prediction for the Virginia Tech game is a toss-up. I expect Pitt to lose a close one. It is called Pitting!

    1. Probably worth noting that Miami came into that match with a 14-2 record, with one of those two losses to #2 ranked Louisville. So a nice road win for Pitt.

  5. I see Pitt winning a close one 35-24. The Panthers score a late TD to beat the spread.

Still outside the top 25 and Duzz loses his mind heading home to play a punch less Clemson who is struggling with cuse tonight in the dome.

    Make me a believer!

  6. The best player and playmaker on the field tomorrow will be #8 for PITT. A lot of people are touting VT’s running game…they’re 88th in the country. PITT’s D is good enough to stuff these turkeys and Kenny will spread the ball around again. PITT rolls 38-21. H2P.

  7. Within the top 25, there is potential for losses as #10 thru #25 have high probabilities of not winning this week.

Iowa sitting at #2 looks odd – Go Kirk Ferentz, Pittsburgh native – not sure James from state penn and Pat are fans.

The dome in cuse looked packed last night in their close loss to Clemson. VT’s Lane Stadium will be packed and rocking this afternoon into tonight.

Regardless of today’s outcome with the chokies, I’m not sure Heinz gets packed next week vs Clemson. Doesn’t matter I guess if they keep winning. Red 5A tailgating will be packed regardless. Heather may even appear to great SOT.

VT has a few young OLineman – if I’m Charlie “Keith” Partridge, I’m throwing the kitchen sink at their two youngsters and letting them see our best each and every play. Rotating formations, blitz packages and fresh legs will confuse and daze the young gobblers.

Tech’s D has 4 projected NFL draftees – Pitt has K8P, any other draftable Panthers this year? Maybe Addison and Mathias?

    Make me a believer!

  8. So watching Clemson vs Syracuse last night was pretty boring and didn’t inspire fear although they both have pretty good defenses, neither have quality QB’s.

Although the ACC is the weakest P-5 it is certainly well balanced this year making for many very competitive games every weekend.

Big one today in BC vs NCST. Pitt vs VT important for the coastal, the winner will have a leg up.

  9. Ok, I get back from vacation last night and at 6am get woken up by a tornado warning. Now that I’m semi awake guess I’ll make my prediction:
    1) Wind will be a factor, hurting us more than them
    2) VT isn’t very good, but I honestly have no idea if we are either.
    3) My cousin was an assistant at FSU in the late 60s and even then he referred to Blacksburg as a snake pit
    4) It’s always tough when a team is so dependent on one player. So much can go right or wrong, this should make most fans uncomfortable, ask James Franklin
    5) This game is so very important to the season, as will be every single game from here on if they win. Could be wrong, but history seems to be we fall flat on our face every time we are on the brink of success.
    6) PN history isn’t good losing at least 5 per year. Streaks are meant to be broken, so Pat, show us what you’ve learned.
    7) Pitt 34 VT not as many.

  10. Good Morning! It’s been a very slow week and I’m already pacing. Thank goodness for the mid-AM tee time.

VT is a wounded animal right now, coming off of two straight losses. And they feel they coulda/shoulda beat the Irish (I agree).

I believe Burmeister will play and the question is how effective are are the twice per day treatments his arm has received this week. I expect them to test us in the air today.

On the other side of the ball, they are strong at DB, with one really good CB and a really
Good safety. I expect them to blitz a lot to get Kenny to rush his throws.

Expect Pitt to run some screens and TE may be the key receiving position. I expect Mack to get more balls today than Addison due to his skill at catching balls in traffic.

Red Zone offense production drops off a bit today against the Hokies D.

Your game star is Mr. Scarton.

  11. My prediction? That the bulk of the POV will be drunk by halftime. While I believe that Kenny and his weapons are legit, our secondary terrifies me. And after watching our defense make ZERO adjustments against WMU, I can say for certain that we won’t out coach them. Talent wise, across the board, the two teams are very evenly matched. We are at a disadvantage on special teams, and the crowd noise is bound to cause a mishap or two. But I keep going back to Kenny, his talented receivers, and our improved offensive line. VT will have a tough time slowing us down. Keep the heat on Burmeister and hope that the secondary holds up.

  12. We have seven games remaining with four of those at home. And it is probably safe to say that there is not a single sure win nor a single sure loss among them. To me it feels like a long time since we have been able to say that. A great time to be a Pitt fan!

    1. Heading to the back nine – there is a minor logjam at the 10th tee, so I thought I’d check the POV. Surprising, there are only a handful of comments –

Lose today, and those “great” feelings will change instantaneously. Duzz will be rolled up like a sock and tossed into a drawer – kind of like Dino Babers of cuse this morning. His fans are insanely upset with his in-game management skills.

The wind on the course is 14 mph – if K8P has trouble with this wind, I’d be surprised. It is having little if no effect on the golf ball this morning.

  13. Pitt handled VT easily last year. Pitt looks to be better than last year on offense but not as good on defense. VT is still a bit of a mystery but has injury woes. All said, Pitt wins 45-31.

  15. On 247sports Pitt is ranked 61st in 2022 recruiting. One 4 star and no 5 stars. Although I am excited about this year no matter how this year turns out it is an outlier. Narduzzi and company can not recruit and he is not a good coach. If we lose today he will be vilified if we win I will have more Kool Aid. I know this is negative but I have been down this road too many times.

  16. I tend to agree with joeknew that over reliance on one player could be their undoing. Who picks up the slack if Kenny has a bad day or gets hurt? Generally, when one player is responsible for success the opposing team can develop defenses to neutralize that player. It falls on the rest of the team to compensate to achieve success. They must rely on Izzy to be that person, which means that the OL MUST come to play today. They also must count on getting a couple of turnovers to compensate. This must be a team win today.

  20. line moved up just within the last couple hours to 6.5

while I thought the GT game was a big win, it was nice but not proving much to stand upon

today will be different as the VT defense seems strong and particularly where Pitt is strong, KP pass game

need balance today due to that defense and the wind creating some problems with the near flawless play of KP AND the thus far great hands of ALL Pitt receivers

Krull could be huge along with the run game so O-line will win it for us,,,,I hope

No doubt that any Pitt fan can ever get overconfident.

Funny though how many can’t handle having a star QB and are already worried about when he is gone.

Just enjoy it for what it is.

Reeds wrong about one thing, I really enjoy stress free football, regardless of how bad the opponent is. This must be how the Nitters felt in the JoePa era. Ya know, it’s not half bad!

  26. You can never relax watching Pitt on D this season. IMO GT could have easily scored a TD before the end of the half and also on their 1st possession of the 2nd half. They might not have won but we would still be biting our nails in the 4th Q. We will need to pressure their QB all game long and hope KP continues performing much as he has done the first 5 games. 28. So the point spread went to 6.5 and now 7 in Vegas. Maybe Burmeister is hurt and not playing. So new Tech QB? What could go wrong??

  29. They said on the huddle that Burmeister will play and looks good throwing right now. Need to hit him, especially if he runs.

What is the most frightening is this is absolutely the kind of game Pitt has not won in a long long time.

Both teams know that a loss pretty much takes them out of the hunt for the Coastal Title.

    Like

  30. Supposedly Burmeister is warming up at the game and is throwing the ball OK. However, I don’t think anyone has hit him yet and that may be why many on the betting front don’t think he will be out there for the entire game.

  32. At the beginning of the season, I had Pitt for 7-5 (with losses to Tennessee, UNC, Miami, Virginia Tech, & Clemson). Now, I expect them to finish 10-2 and no worse than 9-3. The weird part is this is mostly the team I expected to see at the outset (improved, weak-ish running game, lesser defense due to loss of pro talent – particularly in the secondary where there’s less depth). But what I didn’t account for is the huge jump in performance Kenny Pickett would make in his final year (Addison’s development as a sophomore was more expected since the biggest leap is typically between year one and year two).
Kenny is the catalyst and the difference-maker between what stands to be Pitt’s best season since the 80s and their typical residence a game or two above .500. Whenever Pitt has had a truly dynamic offense ranking near the top of the NCAAs, they’ve won at or above their expected level and as long as Kenny continues his current level play, that’s exactly what they’re working with this year.
Offense is the name of the game and this team can put up 30-plus against just about anyone outside of a top ten D. Big things are on the way. Embrace them. H2P!

Pitt has done a much better job of overcoming the wind.
Both QB’s pretty accurate, our guys dropping a few less passes.

If Pitt wins next week, I will join the bandwagon. Today’s win was one to help shake off some of Pitt football’s demons. A win next week would be an exorcism of them!

Pitt still has a tough schedule of UNC, Miami, and Virginia in addition to Clemson. There is plenty of opportunities for things to go south. Narduzzi has to make sure his team does not get over confident. I would keep the WMU score posted in several places in the facilities to remind them what happens when a team becomes overconfident! Our Lady Panther Volleyball team will be at Florida’s State today at 1 PM on the ACC Network.

  69. while it was cool seeing Bartholomew catch the first TD, it was clear KP needed to direct him where to be lining up on several plays throughout

    others notice?

apparently spending way too much time in regular classroom, needs way more time in the playbook
they know how to handle THAT problem at UNC 🙂
    amirite?

    1. Right on UNC.

Packer and Durham always asks student athletes, what’s your hardest class?

Whenever they interview a UNC athlete i expect the kid to say, Huh? Who goes to CLASS?

Dan said it best. University of No Classes. 😆

  70. apparently crazy stuff at the end of Tenn/Ole Miss game

Tenn with good chance to win on last 2 series with the ball but maybe a bad ball mark causing turnover on downs on second to last series

Tenn fans pelting those on the field with everything including golf ball

how close is Tenn to WVU? WVU would have them throwing coins, right? 😦

  71. Pulled this from ESPN game summary:

    THE TAKEAWAYS

Pittsburgh: The Panthers’ offense gets all the attention, but Pittsburgh’s defense deserves accolades as well. The Panthers have allowed just 35 points in the past three games and haven’t allowed more than 100 yards rushing in those three. This is a good squad that is positioned perfectly heading into the second half of the season.

Virginia Tech: Once again, the Hokies were abysmal on offense. Poor quarterback play, dropped passes, and an inability to run the ball killed drive after drive. The performance was so shoddy that Virginia Tech’s student section started leaving in the second quarter, and boos could be heard loudly throughout the game. Fuente, who entered the season on the hot seat, needs to find some answers quickly.

***comment by me: I’m pulling for Fuentes to find some answers quickly – how about beating the remaining teams on the VT schedule, finish strong and help out my Pitt Panthers in the process.

  72. I know Mack was terrible yesterday with all the drops. My guess is he has a good game vs. Clemson.

Syracuse running back, Tucker, ran for 157 yards on Clemson so we may need a lot of Izzy Saturday.

Based on how Kenny threw yesterday, let’s hope for high, swirling winds for the game.

  73. So, I hapoen to be in the Alexandria VA area for the weekend. While walking into a Panera Bread, two gentlemen in front of me greet each other. One says “wow that was a rough game yesterday, I had to turn it off in the second half.”
I look up and see that he is wearing a VT hat. I smile in my Pitt script hat as I walk past them. 😎

  74. A few thoughts

Isn’t it great to wake up Sunday morning with a smile on you face knowing it wasn’t a dream?

Nothing can stop Izzy but Whip resting him on the bench.

Is Hammond dinged up or is it just concern for his lack of experience? He like Izzy can break a tackle.

The offensive line has gone from a liability to a super strength, those QB sneaks are a thing of beauty.
Excellent Pass and Run blocking for the first time since Canada’s line. What a transition.

Burmeister played very well yesterday, who knew there was a team that could drop more passes than ours.

Got a break with their linebacker out for a half and their great corner going down. Our depth is so good that we didn’t miss Campbell then Camp when he went down.

Kenny a marvel throwing with that wind.

Didn’t think our defense could play that well without forcing turnovers.

Still, our toughest competition is ahead of us. Starting next week with Clemson. The Miami vs UNC slugfest was without defense, both can put points on the board. Even Syracuse and Virginia look very formidable.
Duke not so much but remember WMU, which is looking most incredible as the season continues, but a great reminder that if you don’t come to play, bad thing will happen.

That was truly a big game for Pitt, I like the idea of 1-0.

Is it foolish to think the City will get behind the Panthers on Saturday and show up in force. Sure would be nice, but I’m not holding my breath. Pitt HOF weekend too. Curtis Martin inducted on Friday.

    H2P!!!!!

    1. The city will not. All ticket sales are advanced sales. People have other plans at this point. The work at selling tix is in the off season.
It is a major failure of Heath and Duzz.

    2. Red flag alert! We all know what usually happens when we have former-great-Panthers in the stadium for a game…. This is no good timing by HL. 😊

The presence of Curtis and Jackie will be tough to overcome…

      Go Pitt.

Great road win seen by a small group of Pitt road warriors.
Took much abuse from younger crowd (similar to hoopies) left a bad taste.
Played Sweet Caroline in the parking lot as loud as we could.
Nice campus but not impressed with the stsdium

  79. I wanted to thank Ron Cook for picking the Hokies to beat the Panthers.

And I must say that Johnny McGonigal, who covers Pitt for the PG, was dead-on when he predicted Pitt by 3 TDs…

    Go Pitt.

Eleven-minute drives to close-out games are fun to watch. 😊

    Go Pitt.

    1. Great to see Pitt at #7. But look who is at #10. Clemscum who if one remembers only lost
to the current #1 team in America, that being Georgia of the mighty SEC, 10-3.

A changing of the Guard in the ACC on tap ? Wouldn’t that be great !
