Notre Dame at Pitt Open Game Thread

Since when are you the quitting kind?…So you didn’t make the dress list. There are greater tragedies in the world…Oh, you are so full of crap. You’re 5 feet nothin’, a 100 and nothin’, and you got hardly a speck of athletic ability. And you hung in with the best college football team in the land for two years. And you’re also gonna walk outta here with a degree from the University of Notre Dame. In this lifetime, you don’t have to prove nothin’ to nobody – except yourself. And after what you’ve gone through, if you haven’t done that by now, it ain’t gonna never happen. Now go on back…

  1. Classic Pitt. National TV audience in a good time slot against a BIG TIME opponent and they wear those $hitty uniforms. The regular Pitt uniforms are the best uniforms in NCAA Football. What the hell is wrong with them. No one is going to recognize them. Another branding and marketing opportunity squandered.

    What a bunch of maroons

  2. I assume the players wanted these uniforms. Can’t imagine any fan wanting them. The piped in crowd noise is extremely annoying.

He throws a nice pass but the lack of a running game is going to come back to haunt them.

  5. OK I called for 9 points on the prediction thread–6 to go. Our run game is so bad that Yellen might get killed because the Irish defense can go after him all out all the time.

  6. And we start the game with the Flea at RB and he does his best to lose a yard on his only carry thus far. I swear HCPN does this to spite everyone who is calling for Sibley.

  10. Sorry to repeat the Whipple posts I didn’t check my iPad. We all have the exact same thoughts-
Whipple is a jerk. My hot button is Borbs — can’t recruit can’t coach.

      1. As a former DB and WR, I can tell you that when you are running at or near full speed it doesn’t take much of a nudge to get you off your line/balance. He gave a little push then forearm nudge. Should have been O pass interference, but the rules are against the defense these days. Cannot ignore that a big man nudging a midget DB is going to be ignored unless he completely wipes him out. A bigger DB may not have been as easily moved COMPLETELY out of the play.

negative, yeah I know, but we have no offense, a head coach who is lost and an administration

Pitt still can’t run. ND knows this. Yellen will be forced to pass on every down.
What’s wrong with your regular uniforms?? They’re great. Wear your school colors. I hate these.
After every play Yellen has to run to the sideline for the play call. They’re going to wear him out. Pretty primitive form of communication.

  91. Yellen looks like Bostic to me. A big guy who can’t run at all and throws high school level accurate, but slow looping passes that worked great in the Peewee League and high school, but he can’t understand why they don’t work in Div. 1 football.

Our coaches should have known this in practice. QB’s never develop while wearing a Pitt uniform. Almost as bad as Pirate pitchers.

Fire everyone and scrap this 70’s pro style offense.

  93. “The kids liked the unis”. Nonsense, who runs the show. If the coaches are in charge they explain loud and clear for national tv against a storied rival you show your true colors——- like showing our flag.
We should be proud of our colors and GREAT unis. The garbage gray with the crapass helmets made us
look like we escaped from a junkyard. Come to think of it we played like a junkyard team so maybe the
    unis were appropriate.

  94. Well the Nitters and Hoopies lost. Longhorn won. I try to find the silver lining in a very bad day. But boy did pitt look worse in person than on TV. You can see much more in person including action away from the field. This truly is a poorly coached team with little talent.

  96. So, just got back from kids hockey game. Recorded the game but will not watch.

    To the BoT:

Fire Heather – forget being PC. She is ultimately responsible for this performance by extending Narduzzi because he got her hired. Quid pro quo at its best. She has been in over her head from day one. Her allowing the team order those colors was awful. She cannot market. She cannot raise money. She cannot execute on the sports complex. She can smile and be nice…..so can many others. No clue how to build a brand. Athletics is an embarrassment to the university and she is the CEO. Noone can feel like we are heading in the right direction as a university. The Hurley embarrassment was the tip of the iceburg. Several on here have strongly suggested this for a few years now, and it is time for an overhaul after such an embarrassment.
Fire Narduzzi – Awful. This isnt about Whipple. If Narduzzi had a problem with whipple making the qb’s run to the sidelines each play, Narduzzi would change it. He hasnt. Narduzzi admitted he washes his hands of offense and special teams. He is still only in his role as a DC. Narduzzi is a failed experiment and so is the AD. I just watched a long td pass from book to a wr. As the wr catches the ball and starts to run, our cb stops competing and begins waiving to everyone that there was a push! WHAT? That db needs benched for quitting. I will give narduzzi credit for locking the gates so noone could report on how awful Pitt”s team actually is. As I have asked for the last few weeks, I think Jerry D should explain to the arrogant headcoach the reason he didnt put Pitt in the top 25. It has been obvious to several of us for years.
Charlie Partridge – Interim. I agree. Use the rest of this year to have him audition and try to hold the recruiting class together. The problem for the university is that our AD does not have the contacts or understand what it takes to have success as a P5 head football coach. She will have to rely on a search firm which gave Pitt Hurley because she is not viewed as capable of making such an important hire. Partridge isnt the answer either, but he would stop the bleeding. Maybe he will say, we need to recruit better and not, we will look at the tape for the 100th time.

Gents and ladies, this was awful. Embarrassing. Pitt is Hubris. Gallagher and the BoT = Hubris. Gallagher needs someone he can rely on within his executive team to tell him the truth about the AD and the football team before we sink so low, we can”t get turned around. Unlock the gates. Wear the right colors. Be a proud organization. You cannot be proud of the AD or the head coach at this point. Sorry.

  97. Couple of things:

WordPress is holding some comments for no reason and sometimes sending them to me to approve . I don’t have any authority to do that.

Pitt fans look at our players and think they are much better than they really are because we know them, like them and want them to succeed.

But the reality is that we have no star players on offense at all. Pickett shows big yardage but pretty much is run of the mill as far as efficiency goes. We have RBs who should not be playing at this level of competition.

On D we have two good players in Jones and Weaver and that is it. Our back seven are average at best.

If you can step outside your fandom and look at the players and staff with new eyes you can see we are in the bottom half of the FBS and it may not get any better with Narduzzi at the helm.

  98. I know Halloween is next week, but seriously, if you want to be scared think what we are going to be like next year. Look at the roster and think! There is not enough money in Nikes piggy bank to give up my soul and keep those stupid, yup, stupid units. The kids wanted to wear them. Ya, my daughter wanted to wear some trashy outfit too, sometimes the adults have to step in.( my daughter never actually did that, but you get the point). The point is poor decision making, from hires to branding to scheduling.
The first thing I’d do if I was in Heathers shoes is change the scheduling, just like the Nitters did when they got the sanctions. Because we are going to get clobbered. No coach worth a ……. will want to play a schedule with what he will have on the current roster. So much to say, but will need at least a day or two to make it coherent, as tonight was a Makers Mark night, later.

    1. I was actually doing a Bonded in Bottle Bourbon tonite. If you’re a Pitt fan/alumnus.,…100 proof is a starting point !!! Heather’s got to go and then with a new AD, that you hopefully hired, that had Football connections……like say DW. You go forward.

If they could lure a Pitt man to AD……that would be great. But with this BOT…with nitters and other critters, is that even possible. Pitt has been infiltrated…sounds conspiratorial I admit. But it’s the truth.

My proof…….I give you the last 36 years in football….the major revenue producing sport.

  99. I was at game behind Pitt bench. Watched Narduzzi. He literally does nothing but stand there with his hands on his knees. Not once did he talk to Yellen or anyone on offense. Totally lost and a change in coordinators is just rearranging the deck chairs. He needs to go, hate to wish that on anyone but he was reached his expiration date

  100. Narduzzi needed someone who could recruit offensive players. He should have known that Whipple would not go on the road and sit in players’ living rooms. Relying on position coaches only works if you are a star head coach who is well known enough to close the deal with a phone call. It turns out that Whipple doesn’t even run the offense well, so why did PN hire him and keep him for a second year?

    Like

    1. He hired him because Pickett wanted him and Narudzzi doesn’t care about offense and Whipple was cheap. He kept him because he thought that things would get better in year 2. So much for that

  101. I’d take Morehead or Canada right now. It was interesting to hear Vukovcan say that by the time players are in their 3rd or 4th year, they tire of Narduzzi’s rah rah ways. I think if a change is made now, it might be easier to stop a mass exodus at the end of the season, especially if you keep guys like Partridge on board. It would be interesting to see what Bates would do if it was really his defense. It would be tough to put in a new offense during the season, but with a bye, now is the time for change. I think the best thing for Pitt fans was the commentary during the game. Those comments brought out everything to light that we all have been stating since last season. If Whipple isn’t gone by Monday, then I would bet Narduzzi survives to be back next year.

    1. Like many Corps and Gov’t agencies….and Pitt is like a Corp or even a Gov’t agency…i find that they’re all using Covid as in excuse as to why things aren’t up to snuff. Even though no Gov’t agency that I am aware of, has layed off or furloughed ANY employees. And Pitt will use the same excuse, rest assured.
Hopefully this gets posted. As it might not merit the PC sniff test.

  102. One solution to the rah rah issue is to recruit better and have the 2nd team pushing the 1st team for playing time. The better players don’t fear losing their jobs. Take Ford, for example. He doesn’t seem like a team player, there is no one pushing him and they begged him to play this year. A player like that is not going to listen to coaching. It will probably get even worse now.

That’s a mountain west school folks. Candidly, I wouldn’t trust our AD with a new OCS. Crap sakes, we can”t even get victory heights any momentum. Another reason for a new direction.

  104. Who calls the time outs on offense, Narduzzi or Whipple? What about special teams? If someone was watching they could see the blocking scheme was off for the blocked punt. Yet they take 3 time outs into the locker room. They run Pickett 15 times a game but don’t have a back up QB ready if he gets hurt. Narduzzi seems disengaged, as though he knows the jig is up and he is on borrowed time.

  106. So I woke up a little while ago and asked myself what day it is. After gathering my thoughts I realized it’s Sunday and PITT had just got their heads kicked in yesterday. How am I supposed to go back to bed with that thought in my head? On the other hand, I fully expected PITT to lose. (anyone who picked PITT to win is not a realist) it’s just the way they did it that was obscene.

PITT has one deserved week off and then they better come back with a purpose. You can’t to continue to put a team that looks like that on the field each week. Hopefully KP is ready to go and PITT can finish the season on a high note. See, I talked myself down and hopefully it’s enough to get another half hour of rest. The defense is getting ripped off big-time. OK, off to fantasy land for some rest, hopefully!

  110. Anyone who attends these pitt games is loyal and a credit. I could only stomach three quarters. It’s so much worse in person when they lose.

I think at this point I’ll waive my consultants fee and disclose my list of HC replacements candidates. It’s a list of six…an extra one provided given my good nature and appreciation of the hell you season ticket holders go through.

All have HC experience. All have proven track records. All have offensive backgrounds.

Here it is in no order of preference. I think all would be good fits at Pitt. All could probably be offered around $2.5 million.

    Seth Littrell – UNT
    Rod Carey – Temple
    Jason Candle – Toledo
    Chip Lindsey – Troy
    Ryan Silverfield – Memphis
    Jamey Chadwell – Coastal Carolina

I’m sure there are a few others out there. So there are plenty of viable candidates.

  111. I thought Pitt would lose this game, but getting totally embarrassed on national TV is another matter. We already knew that the offense would do (or not do), but this game really exposed just how bad the secondary is. And sadly, the talent is there in at least 3 of the 4 positions. The DC and defensive backs coach are probably being forced to use PN’s system and it’s not working.

  112. Found some silver linings here. At least this wasn’t a one score loss; all tickets were bought, a SELLOUT; those that watched the ND highlights at a bar or with the sound down, would have no idea they beat Pitt, with those horrendous uniforms (one national sports outfit i believe called them sleazy, plus whatever you all said the commentators were saying during the exhibition game); we will not lose this coming saturday.

Ken Pickett had nothing to do with this blowout Ike. Well, he probably wouldn’t have had 3 interceptions because he would have tucked and run early, but i digress. There’s five parts to every game. Defense was a Loss. Special Teams was a loss. Offense was a loss. Coaching was a loss. AD Administration was a loss. We lost all 5 aspects of the game……for many weeks in a row now. Hubris = Pitt Board.

Austin and Peay is asking if they can play us again this year.

Funny watching our little band of drinking nomads evade the tailgate police for about an hour prior to walking into the stadium.

Hated the unis and the BS piped in crowd noise.
Leaving for Myrtle tomorrow am for a week of golf and sunshine.
And maybe a soda pop or 2…
