    1. Screw any school from Carolina. Screw the refs. Screw the ACC and Tobacco Road. Screw those southern inbred hicks.

Expect Pitt to be screwed back.

      1. Genrally agree, Tex.

That said, there is a hierarchy in NC of how those schools are viewed. in order…UNC, Duke, Wake and lastly NC State. The folks in Raleigh/Durham treat the Pack as a lesser entity and I will always root for them in intrastate matchups.

  27. There is no question they have talent and potential. They have no depth of experience as well as numbers. Their strength, intense defense and breakaways are exhausting. It was unsustainable for such a young group.
I believe that it will change next year. They will gain 3 very talented big men to fill that role with Coulibaly. Having strength and height their opens lanes for others.
And I don’t think he has finished recruiting for next year.

They showed promise at times but widely inconsistent but I think we expected this due to lack of depth and being a young team.

    1. I’ve noticed several news hosts, radio hosts, etc, giving out inaccurate info. Basically either not reporting or downplaying what’s going on in the 1st World Euro country of Italy. Italy is on total quarantine, all
businesses or most all have been ordered closed.

As of today, according to the world renowned Johns Hopkins University Medical Research Center,
Italy has nearly a 1000 deaths (827 to be exact). 2 and 1/2 weeks ago they had 20.

      https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

This has exploded in Europe in just 2 weeks. Spain now reporting 55 deaths, France 48, Merkel of Germany suggested today 70% of Germany or 56 Million people will be infected in Germany.

This is no joke, only reason American infection rate is so low, they haven’t been testing hardly anyone, for
several reasons over the last 2- 4 weeks. Even with little testing, the infected numbers and deaths
have gone up from basically zero to now over 30 deaths in America. Again remember, people have
been running around America for weeks, before any testing (however little) has started. And these
include infected people. When the testing gets ramped up, the numbers are going to increase
dramatically. No testing going on in Western Pa at all, which is why all the people infected in
PA, are on the Eastern side, Cause they are and have been testing over there.

And it’s not just affecting old people with underlying medical problems. A 23 year tip top shape
national player on the Iranian soccer team died, a couple days after contracting the Virus.

I’ve been on top of this for over 2 months. And have watched this grow and imo it’s the real deal

  40. There’s no vaccine for SARS but there hasn’t been an outbreak since 2004. There might never be a vaccine for Covid either. These cross over viruses from animal to hunan are something relatively new and we’ll have to live with. But these viruses are the real deal. They are more severe than typical seasonal flu hence the hysteria and precaution. We’re just gonna have to learn to coexist with these new viruses. Can’t be canceling public events every time a new virus pops up. I’m still young and healthy so my risk is low. The play the odds.

    1. I just googled SARS. The web md site says no vaccine. But there are treatments. The good thing is that it’s ‘gone away’ for 16 years. I’m no health expert and I probably shouldn’t believe everything is read on the internet either.

I can understand the precaution but I also think it’s over reacting. If I was old with a medical condition, I’d be extra careful. But no virus is gonna scare me unless it’s some plague and we’re experiencing End of Days.

I don’t plan on living my life as a hermit. People in China are already getting cabin fever and rebelling against the lockdown. The rub is that the lockdown has contained the virus and saved lives. It’s a balance like everything else in life.

Not to mention, the lost billion$ on travel restrictions, people not going out locally to restaurants, movie theatres, Broadway just closed down in NYC till at least mid April. We are watching, in slow motion, a real pandemic scenario, that’s been beat to death by Hollywood for the last 25 years.

As coach if you hear a player wants out, you open the door. We all know how an AB type player impacts chemistry and team. He can take his talents to IUP.

    Assists per game …. X 4.9, Trey 3.6, Champ 0.7, Toney 1.2

Now X and Trey should lead in assists, no doubt … they handled the ball more. But I still contend that speculation over the past month that the 2 guards were the root of all evil is a bit misplaced.

Also, most complete teams have a low post to feed when nobody is open on the outside, but I haven’t seen that at Pitt for the past 4 years

Both are ball hogs who want to drive and take wild shots. They never learned to play the game as a team. They are playground players. Capel won’t be able to teach them basketball. Be a waste of his time.

  68. This portal stuff sucks. I for one would hate to see Toney or any of our guys leave. Toney is the best defender on the team and he had good moments of offense as well. One very big game when he was instrumental in one of wins. While I agree that both X and Trey need to lower the turnovers, they have valuable skills and are getting better at finding the open man.

The new guys will help a lot next year as will the development of Coulibaly’s game.

Hopefully, Capel gets the guys he is after and is able to hold on to Schifino.

  72. Man, things are going to get real slow around here……….. So how about this weather? Here’s one for you Tex.

A cowboy rode into town and stopped at a saloon for a drink. Unfortunately, the locals always had a habit of picking on strangers, which he was. When he finished his drink, he found his horse had been stolen. He went back into the bar, handily flipped his gun into the air, caught it above his head without even looking and fired a shot into the ceiling.

“Which one of you sidewinders stole my horse?!” he yelled with surprising forcefulness. No one answered.

“Alright, I’m gonna have another beer, and if my horse ain’t back outside by the time I finish, I’m gonna do what I dun in Texas! And I don’t like to have to do what I dun in Texas!”

Some of the locals shifted restlessly. The man, true to his word, had another beer, walked outside, and his horse has been returned to the post. He saddled up and started to ride out of town. The bartender wandered out of the bar and asked, “Say partner, before you go… what happened in Texas?” The cowboy turned back and said, “I had to walk home.”

  80. Some parallels between the men’s and women’s basketball teams this season:

    -Both had horrible seasons.
-Both had a freshman show a lot of promise. Champagnie for the men and Day Harris for the women. Harris made the ACC All-Freshmen team; Champagnie looks like he should have made it.
-Both teams won their first game in the ACC tourney. The women with a big upset of ND; the men with what should have been an upset.
-Both teams struggled mightily with turn-overs and poor shooting.
-Both played a lot of young players. By the end of the season, the men were playing 3 Sophs and 2 Freshmen; the women were playing 4 Freshmen and a Juco transfer.
-Both teams are adding some encouraging sounding recruits next season – and each is adding a well thought of red-shirt.

Next season should be better for both teams, though that’s not much of a hurdle…

Another question. Can PITT and all teams still hold off the field “unofficial” practices?

Question #2. Does anyone think other teams won’t hold practices and how will we know?

Question #3. Will PITT have a ball boy holding up signs and throwing passes to the fifth string QB’s during the “unofficial” practices and get busted for breaking probation?

          1. True. What a shame TJ McConnell’s growth spurt came late or else he would have been a Panther. Not that he would have started as a freshman, but he would have been the point man the following three seasons.

The end of that UConn game was Dixon in a nutshell. Too scared to do something different defensively and left Gary out to dry. The one seed was all but wrapped up so he should have had Brad and Gil fire out on Walker and force him to give it up. Of course he tightened up so much when the stakes got higher and higher not even prune juice could cure him.

  95. The transfer portal was swelling yesterday and Syracuse had three kids enter. Something to keep an eye as Pitt is going to have at least three in there. College hoops will never be the same with this portal and if the kids get immediate eligibility it will leave only getting paid from calling the these athletes professionals.

If coaches thought recruiting was the toughest part of the job then a close second will be persuading kids to stick with the program, which will be close to impossible with helicopter parents and AAU influences chirping in their ears.

  96. natebailey4 – How about coaches who can leave without completing their contracts? I don’t understand this logic. Let players have agents to negotiate LOI’s and I bet the standards change then. Student athletes are forced to sign an LOI without proper representation if they want to play college athletics. Here sign your life away on the dotted line. Would a college coach sign the same contract without an agent?

Had the NCAA had the foresight years ago, they could have gradually moved to a more friendly student experience within college athletics. But no, they hardline’d and put themselves in this position.

Every sport has different rules right now. NCAA baseball is different than NCAA football is different than NCAA basketball is different than NCAA lacrosse. They should be professional athletes. The schools will actually make a lot more money if they treated them like professional athletes and marketed the sports like professional sports. The Olympics are the gold standard of amateurism and the NCAA still tries to peddle their brand of it in self preservation instead of actually being forward thinking on the subject and truly benefiting in unison with the athletes.

You play sports to, umm, play. If you’re not playing why the hell wouldn’t you look for another place to play? If you don’t like your coach or city or school why the hell wouldn’t you try to leave? And why wouldn’t you try force change if you couldn’t look for another place to play? In professional sports, players leave all the time for more playing time … hell they’re cut too … so they can find another place to play more. This notion of loyalty and quitting when it gets tough is all dumb.

Treat people like adults and you’re much more likely to get adult behavior back. Treat someone like a child and you’ll get childish behavior back. You can swap in professional for adult and amateur for child if you wish. Same difference.

      Like

      1. I won’t be complaining. That’s just life. Adults can make their own decisions. If they want real contracts to bind them to the school let players negotiate the LOI’s.

  97. At the elite schools, these athletes are already paid and there’s no such thing as a real class. It’s always been a sham.

Not sure what the answer is besides breaking up the NCAA for football and basketball. Create a pro minor league system associated with the schools for those sports. Pay the athletes. They don’t have to take class.

It levels the playing field for 90 percent of the schools like Pitt. Let the Alabama’s have their cake. Let pitt play against like minded schools who still value the academic mission and the standard of scholar athlete.

This transfer rule is bs if it doesn’t have penalties. A coach has a buyout if he leaves. A school should at least be compensated if an athlete leaves or that athlete needs to sit out a year.
