Why can’t pitt football schedule schools like this. A win is a win.

Unless you’re Pitt football and barely beat a team ranked number 120 in saragin and rpi while favored to win by 13.

    Go Pitt

  2. We are on fire from three. Not rebounding well or playing with urgency on defense. Up 10 but should be more

  3. This is the complete opposite of what we have seen all year from pitt. Poor defense and lack of effort on the glass but on fire from three

  6. Just a pathetic effort on the offensive boards. Would like to see the total shot differential so far in this game. It feels like it’s close to 2 to 1 for Canisius.

  7. Problem w a zone is it makes you lazy … especially Pitt. Pitt BB starting to copy football in a lack of discipline. Soon to be tie score.

Pitt simply being outschemed and outplayed.

  8. I like Coulibaly’s defense (the last several possessions). He is a big body for sure. I don’t like his free throw form which could be a problem in close games. I have only watched 3 minutes of game. Will re-watch later.

    1. I would never play Coulibaly as he is clumsy, awkward and slow. He only has a bigger body than others but will be eaten alive in the ACC with any talent at the opposition center position.

      1. Coulibaly does not look slow for his size and he does move his feet pretty well. But in fairness to him and Drumgoole both, they are both true freshmen with next to no live game time yet, so time will tell how well they develop. I do like Drumgoole’s chances better, but no way to really tell at this point.

  9. It’s been all year, Pitts defense is atrocious in zone. Pitt’s defense in man to man same. This team simply doesn’t move their feet on D. Defense is played w your feet, not your hands. I would be tying players hands behind their backs in practice. I’m sure Capel has his torture.

      1. That’s my question as well. Hamilton looked to play 4 minutes, and all early minutes. He is either in the doghouse, injured or ill. Anybody else know what’s going on? For a team that could not defend the interior today, you’d think he’d have a ton of minutes if everything was OK….

  10. Lazy lazy basketball but a Pitt win.
Have to play Wake at noon in a few days. Lots of work to do!

It has to drive Capel nuts that this team cannot play effective man to man defense. H2P

  11. I think he ripped into them for trying to go for a long break on the out of bounds play, just to have it intercepted. Pitt had enough points and didn’t need to pad the scoresheet.

Dan, you old timer! Gotta love it. I remember practicing defense with hands tied behind back after a lackluster defensive effort. We weren’t allowed to even shoot at some practices. Not to trigger anyone, but we also did a lot of suicides as a penalty. First one done with suicides each time was off the line and didn’t have to do any more. Promoted great effort and better defense during game.

    1. Huff you old timer. They renamed “suicides!” Not PC anymore. Hated running em as a player but loved using them as a “conditioning “ exercise as a coach.

Conditioning as in conditioning their minds to play w more intensity.

  12. I missed the game due to unforeseen and unfortunate happenings with Mrs Erie.

Went straight to the ESPN box score and see Pitt won the game by shooting over 50% from the field. Not sure if it was bad D or poor free throw shooting or both to have the score be that close.

    I guess a win is a win…

  14. By saying “you Pitt Football fans” seems like your excluding yourself dan. Can we a least conclude you are a Pitt football fan but not a Narduzzi fan. If that’s the case I suggest you read the PSN writeup today on recruit Sam Williams and read what has coach has to say about him and the Pitt coaches that recruited him.

    1. Well we can absolutely conclude Dan is NOT a Narduzzi fan. Right Dan? BTW, if you ever get the chance to meet Dan72 in person……. he’s a lovable big bear!

      1. Ya, but I’m still trying to figure out if he is a Pitt football fan. Or does he just hate Narduzzi so much that he actually roots against Pitt football just hoping that more losses it racks up will result in Narduzzi being fired sooner rather than later.

        2. you can be a Pitt fan and know that Narduzzi is not the right coach for Pitt’s future. Nobody roots against Pitt just to prove a point or to get a coach fired. Seriously? Unless you are a Nitter, but the flaming would have been extinguished by me personally. And if you think differently, you obviously dont know me too well. Because if theres one thing that will literally get you in a world of hurt, its a Nitter fan trying to flame and defending the culture that covered up and enabled child rape. But we’re all Pitt fans on this blog. Repeat after me…WE are ALL Pitt fans. Its refreshing to drink something other than Kool-aid once in a while isnt it? I personally like a good Kentucky Bourbon. 🙂

          1. You haven’t convinced me yet Tex that some here would like to see Pitt lose football games just for the very reason I noted to see Narduzzi fired. He ain’t going to get fired winning 8 games a season at Pitt.

  15. It seemed to me that Capel was doing some experimenting today. He was intent on seeing what they can do playing zone as well as what can Coulibaly do. In both halves, Pitt opened up in man, got out to a big lead and then switched to zone and Canisius made it close. IMO Coulibaly plays hard but his lack of experience shows …. I believe he has only been playing BB for a few years

  16. ike — looks like you made the call on Paris Ford. I’m surprised he’s coming back but glad to see it. Changes the whole outlook for the defense.

And we need to spend the off-season getting Paris, and all our defenders, to “target” the football instead of the ball carrier’s head area.

    Go Pitt.

    Go Pitt.

Seemed like Canisius had bigs better than any of our bigs…

Finding the right players is certainly a tough job…

        1. I only use my tardis for football. So my basketball insight is limited. But I’ll tell you one thing, Capel is a keeper while Narduzzi belongs on the trash heap of pitt coaches not named Sutherland, Warner, majors and sherrill.

          1. That’s strictly your opinion Tx which you are most certainly entitled to. But, this is where people like myself and others question the disdain some have against PN and not necessary his results. Narduzzi has never received a pass from some of you despite three 8 win seasons against a brutal OOC schedule. and have I mentioned a division title?

  19. Made it to the game today. A bit gimpy and sore but worth it.

First off it is huge that Ford is coming back. He makes that defense the way Polamalu made the Steelers D very dangerous. Hoping they get Hamlin back and then look out. If our guys didn’t realize before they watched the playoff games that they need another year in the weight room, they know now. The camera shots showing the rear ends of the O-lines were frightening. They looked like big screen TV’s or sides of beef.

I saw lots of positives in the game today. First off, this is the most athletic team Pitt has ever had, not even close. They are so much more fun to watch than any previous Pitt team other than the Blair years.

Still a couple years from being competitive in the ACC but much better year to year. All the new guys should help in one way or another and there are many more options for scoring than last year.

As Dan points out, lots to learn but great upside and when they shoot like they did today every thing is easier.

The best news is that the point guards no longer have to carry the team, and that depth is being built.

There were 5 guys in double figures today, that has rarely happened with any Pitt team. Champ was hot.

Agree with JRN, Canisius is not chopped liver and has some kids that can play, but the game was never in any doubt, every time the got close, Pitt would just surge ahead.

Lots of little kids at the Pete today, good on Pitt to get them there.

  20. Women’s BB team lost by 8 today at UNC. They look good in stretches but then play really horribly for stretches. The horrible stretches are characterized by scoring droughts from taking poor shots and just making poor decisions with the ball. Plus today the rebounding wasn’t so good.

They may not win a conference game this season — (no Director Cup help from this team! ☹️).

Four freshmen and a Juco transfer are playing around 60% of the minutes. Freshman PG Harris looked much more under control today – she’s going to be good, I think. And freshman Amber Brown had 13 rebounds and looks promising as well. A 6-4 center is pretty raw but shows flashes of being a player with experience.

The women’s team is trying hard to relate to their fans. Besides the “Practice With the Panthers” event, which my wife and I attended and thoroughly enjoyed, the coaches are having “Chalk Talks” before six of the home games. These events are for season ticket holders.

Anyway, going to be a tough season but we get a couple of impact forwards (a top 100 recruit and a very good player from Greece who is red-shirting apparently for administrative reasons) to add to the promising freshmen for next season – so things are definitely looking up in the longer term…

    Go Pitt.

          1. Well please remember this, if Narduzzi wins 7/8 next season he will be gone. With the number of returning starters he has to win, period.

            We will revisit next season.

            Their non conference is favorable.

Time for Narduzzi to walk the walk.

I’m a big fan of Coach White (and Assistant Head Coach Mitchell) but that’s a heck of a high bar you just set.

  22. Coaches are hugely important. Look what this App State Coach has done first year for Louisville. They set the tone and define the program. Just like Narduzzihas done for Pitt. How different would you feel if Pitt had not pulled off a minor miracle and lost to a horrendous EMich team?

Again, Pitt Football has every advantage next year! Returning all the starters on D and many on offense. 3rd year QB in Pickett, easy schedule decent recruiting class and yet Pitt will underperform and gon7-5 or 6-6. Why…because Narduzzi is a fraud!

    From SBNATION:

The 6’4”, 185-pound shooting guard holds a five-star rating from ESPN in addition to four-star ratings from both 247Sports and Rivals. Hood-Schifino is the No. 17 recruit in the nation, according to Rivals, but ESPN ranks him at No. 24 and 247Sports has him at No. 33. The guard is the highest-rated recruit Capel has landed since he was hired by Pitt in 2018.

Hood-Schifino held offers from 10 schools and chose Pitt over Clemson, Florida, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Virginia Tech and Wichita State. Ole Miss was also involved in his recruitment but fell short despite beating out Pitt for junior college prospect Khadim Sy in May.”

  28. So the biggest news of the off-season is that we got back 86 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions and a first-team All-ACC Safety in Paris Ford.

And we also get back Patrick Jones and Jaylen Twyman — not too shabby.

I really thought that Jones and Ford were gone – regardless of projected draft status – just a hunch I had…

I think this speaks well for Coach Narduzzi.

    Hail to Pitt.

Now, can she market this occurrence to a success.

The bigger questions will be can Duzz coach the team to a successful 10+ win season – fans will want to know.
