It is Senior Day and a game that needs to be won to keep this good 2nd half of the season going.

Hamlin now regularly sitting it out on the sidelines… especially when the Offense is expected to PASS!

Holy ‘Charlie Brown’ Batman – Pitt kicked the SOP meme to the curb today! What a memorable game. Nice crowd, excellent salute to the Seniors…

…and by the way Tony Dorsett AND James Connor were in the building to see the ‘HO’ train run throttle wide open down the track…492 yards On The Ground! Now that is some power football.

And how about the D…coming through when it had to, the punter actually having some success, and (oh yawn) – another long field goal in crap weather; had to be the most complete game played all year IMHO.

Kudos to the Seniors, the underclassman, and especially the coaching staff. Good overall game plan and Narduzzi’s team walks the walk today just like he predicted.

Enjoy it tonite, then get ready – the Biggest Game in Narduzzi’s tenure is coming up next Saturday in Winston-Salem. Somehow I think the Panther’s will answer the bell. (and no, it won’t be Le’veon).

  47. These are the types of performances and wins that are memorable and clearly shows why athletics, especially football, are so important and should be taken very seriously. The administration needs to double down here with the football program and try to make it the best in the Coastal for years to come.

Winning is contagious, so let the academic people do their jobs and keep their noses out of athletics. Is that too much to ask, Gallagher, to make sure this can happen? No excuses.

Onto to Wake and the chance to clinch the Coastal. This just feels like a trap game and it sucks that the Deacons’ back up QB looks really good after the senior starter went down.

Can’t say enough about these seniors and their ability to keep grinding away when the record stood at 2-3 after the UCF game and staring down Syracuse and ND.

I know there was talk about Narduzzi losing his team after Sear quit (hardly knew you, kid) and recruits were going to start looking around, but that all seems to be quenched with how things are rolling at the moment. Hopefully some of Florida recruits are at the Miami game after Pitt has clinched the Coastal and look to stick to Miami after so many losses over the years to the Canes.

  51. Sure Ollison’s 97 yarder with that devastating stiff arm was the highlight of the game, but probably my favorite moment was earlier in the game when either Hall or Ollison popped off a big run, and Ffrench was trying to block someone down field … he didn’t really get a piece of the guy, allowing him to make the tackle, and you could tell Ffrench was unhappy that he missed the block. In fact, he seemed more upset with himself on that play than when he couldn’t hold on to the long bomb right before Mack’s amazing catch (which by the way, I was there in person and its hard to tell from the scoreboard replays, and I know he stepped on the out of bounds line, but it looked like he was leaning forward; I think the ball might have been breaking the plain at the moment he stepped out of bounds). That shows what kind of players we have, to have that kind of reaction when they can’t help their teammate get a score.

Our run attack would challenge the tigers D and our D is scrappy and gritty. Also, Narduzzi beat the tigers in Death Valley the year they won the National Championship. 60. A couple of us thought that the Pitt offense would “pick it” up after the ND game for two reasons.

1). When they said George was ready to be the backup QB, we figured that would mean that Watson would turn KP loose to run a bit more, (since they now had a legit backup ready to go); and

    2) we would now be playing teams more comparable to us in talent and most importantly, teams who were not likely to have the type of pass-rushers we had seen in the earlier schedule. Thus KP would likely have more time in the pocket — indeed even have a pocket!

After three wins in a row that looks to have been the case. Now may it continue!

    1. Many have that very point ad nauseum on this board. The first thing the voters look at is in your win-loss record. Then they look at who you played and how close those games were. Maybe if you played a weaker schedule, they’ll bump you below a team that has one more loss than you if that other team had a hard schedule. But as we see here, we don’t have a good enough resume to get ahead of teams we have beaten because they simply have more wins.

Only 2 teams have made a bowl losing 2 P5 OOC games (PITT & NC St.). Another 4 teams (Louisville(twice), Va. Tech, Arkansas, & Miss. St. loss two P5/G5 OOC games.

I doubt if any other P5 team could have lost 3 OOC games. It may be more common in G5 conference teams.

      2. here’s what a joke some of the rankings are. … in the Coaches’ poll, UVa got more votes than Pitt. All some of the guys look at is the record … they can care less or don’t have the time to look at quality of schedules

  71. For anyone keeping track — the Oregon State Fightin’ Beavers, led by infamous AD Scott Barnes, lost another game. It was 48-17 to Stanford, making OSU 2 and 8 on the season…

Mr. Barnes is getting the results that he deserves. 😊

  72. From the Trib: Pitt recorded 13.9 yards per play. The NCAA record is 13.5 (Georgia Tech vs. Kansas in 2011), but there is a qualifier of a minimum of 50 plays. Pitt had 47.

  73. I’m not sure if anyone will be working on a MMQB article in Reed’s place so just a few thoughts:

Good: where to begin. (1) Finally a pass in the middle of the field by KP, hope its not the last as I think the middle will be open with safeties cheating up to stop the run. (2) the best RB combo at Pitt or maybe in any school in a very, very long time. (3) an even better stiff-arm than JC’s against Clemson and that is hard to do. (4) a much grittier D starting to emerge, with secondary playing much more aggressive and confident. (5) the best O line run blocking unit in CFB. (6) George the Animal taking flight!!. (7) 45k in the stands not bad but what was great was the noise that they made.

Bad: Hmmm honestly struggling to come up with anything. Oh yeah, Nard-dog’s slip up in the post game referring to “2 remaining guaranteed wins”. Chalk board material.

Ugly: The mugs on some of those O-lineman, but man do those guys Know how to brawl on running plays. JK they all look like models, especially in helmets mowing down D-lineman and LBs.

  74. Finally getting some positive TV coverage including College Football Final on ESPNU yesterday. Ollison got a helmet sticker. And they asked for one of our retro helmets for the future.

Exorcised a lot of SOP demons on Saturday. Hoping we drive a stake thru the heart of SOP with a win over WF.

  75. Shhhhh! It’s like a library in here. Seems like everyone is either in shock or lying in the tall grass. So following Taxing’s start I will follow.

    THE GOOD:

Just the big win, I don’t buy into the notion that what happened 30 years ago has any effect on game days now. (sop) but I do get a kick how when it’s brought up we only go back to when PITT’s football program struggled. Never seems to make it back to the late 70’s early 80’s.

The run game, holy while! PITT’s O-Line surprises even me and quieted down a few others. All of a sudden the Borbeley hire doesn’t look so bad and Heather looks pretty smart extending Narduzzi’s contract.

KP looked like a different QB back there. Confidence is growing and the offense looks more balanced.

Nice crowd for a very cold day. Home game weather this year really sucked.

Right uniforms, wrong colors but I’ll take them

    THE BAD:

It was the last home game, always sad for me.

I find it funny that they put these restrictions on women’s purses and then hand out 6 inch bobble-heads that have to be lugged around. Buy enough and hand them out when the customer leaves. I saw bobble-heads laying all over the place from people getting tired of carrying them around.

Again, it was cold and most games at home this the weather was bad.

    THE UGLY:

The two thousand people sitting in the east club the entire game like they were at a bingo hall. The players deserve the support. (at least poke your head out for a few seconds). Saw a young man with a VT jacket on in a wheel chair that looked severely handicapped braving the elements while his team was getting crushed. He never left at sat outside the entire game.

    On to Winston-Salem!! . … … …ike
