  1. Thus far today 3 major ‘Blue’ Bloods have been upset (Duke, Kentucky, Kansas). Further, St John’s was 0-11 in conference play … 11 straight losses … before beating Duke.

Having said that I’m probably not even going to watch the onslaught

And I agree with Upitt, I’m not sure why so many people keep repeating the “they play hard” mantra, I don’t see how this team is that different than any other one, besides Artis on last year’s team, who tended to get sleepy at times.

  26. Ike, why the hostility at me. I didn’t make a comment this entire thread until now.

This is partly our AD’s fault. When you are two years at the helm of a team as is Stallings, and there are no indications that the team is improving, it is time to give the coach the axe. She needs to step up and do this. No questions. Or she needs to say “i believe in Stallings and I will put my job on the line in support of his program. If she can’t do that, she is the problem and needs to go.

If she doesn’t believe he is the guy, she needs to cut him loose. This is not difficult. Losing by 20 and 30 points towards the end of a season is difficult. It shows no improvement. I tried to stay off the board tonight, but it was too hard not to comment at the end.

Change the culture BoT and Gallagher. The natives are speaking to you with their lack of participation in buying tickets. Make a freaking financial decision that actually supports Pitts dwindling fanbase in bball.

Aaron Donald is some sort of freak without the freaky body. PITT not only puts players into the NFL, they put out the best players. Just like the water in Brooklyn makes the best bagels maybe it’s the three rivers in Pittsburgh help making the best football players?

I do have a problem with Stallings coaching. It’s inconsistent at best and nonexistent at worst. I do think PITT has the nucleus of a good team down the road. Definitely needs maturing and a few more pieces brought in.

Interesting picture above at TCU and Jamie’s cardboard cutout, the young player shooting the free throw should be playing for PITT. Konate from right up the road Hermitage, PA.

But like Dan72 says why aren’t they running a slow down game like Pitt used to and VA still does.

Playing run and gun with UNC is just stupid. No value on offensive rebounding? We need a new coach.

I like the individual talents of these guys, they have some skills, but they are outclassed every night by bigger stronger guys. They turn the ball over too often playing this run and gun style.

Hate to say it, but a deliberate style with a focus on rebounding and taking better and fewer shots with more emphasis on defense, would give them a better chance to learn and grow and maybe even win.

  46. Remember when Pitt would be on TV and ESPN would actually have commercials about upcoming games. Now it is Press Virginia 2 times a week in major time slot and TCU, etc.

Sometimes a wife or husband gets sick of the beatings and “talk” and leaves. We went from relevent to complete and utter laughing stock in 2 seasons. Best part is the TCU tickets are on fire and rhe skunk is all over BillBoards here and it is exciting. So TCU actually sells the brand and the team. Meanwhile Fanta Farrah is giving away box tops and friend pickles to the first 34 at the Pete. Only way to bring this to a rightful solution is to not attend games. Say what you want. If you go to games you are telling Heather it is okay and I’m a sheep. Unless you have a kid under 10 years old and he/she want to see this. Although I think cleaning out a gutshot Hog in 3 feet of mud would be less damaging to a kid than watching Grand Larcen Lex Stallings steal 78K a game and look like a vaccum salesman just fired by Brissel on Xmas Eve.

  56. Why anyone would think that the incompetents that gave an over the hill never has been a contract with a 10mil buyout after two years of a total trainwreck would be able to fix it is beyond me. Time after time Pitt screws the pooch. Over reacts to Sports Illustrated, fires a winning coach, hires a nobody who beats his girlfriend, hires a con man. Hires a west coast basketball expert to help push Jamie, a top twenty if not top ten coach, out the door. Then hires a new AD, that is possibly an up and comer, but with a relatively weak resume who is most likely way over her head.

So your telling me you have faith that Pitt Basketball will be competitive any time in the next five years, 10 years.

  61. Pitt AD would be killing the program by playing hard ball and threats to a head coach. She will make the appropriate decision both timing and financially after next year. Firing Stallings and taking that hit is simply not recoverable unless some big time backers pick up the lions share of the buyout. Give him another year to improve and maybe more fannies come to see a better team next year. He is not the LT solution and never was. But it also buys time for the AD to be better acquainted with the BB landscape and who to get to the short list. Dixon got beat yesterday at home to Texas Tech. Not exactly killing it here at 4-6. But no question Pitt has to get the next hire right. Pitt is a cash cow in BB if they can win and be a top 15 team. . .

    1. OMG, now Dixon is here again too.

Dixon lost his starting PG. He lost to a team that currently sits atop the Big 12 and that may prove to be the only serious challenger to KU for the Big 12. He’s won ten Big 12 games in two seasons. That’s two more games than TCU had won in the previous 4 seasons. He’s also won an NIT tournament. That was TCU’s first non-CBI tournament in like 10 years. I’d say he’s doing fairly well and their fans are probably happy.

Can we now stick to Pitt and stop talking about Dixon? He’s been gone nearly 2 years.

    3. You must be a very patient man Chet. No way can Pitt let this BBALL team continue for another year like this . You remind me of Kevin Bacon in Animal House as a guard at the Homecoming Parade saying all is well as he’s getting run over by the stampeding crowd. In this case the crowd is the fans fleeing from the Peterson!

  62. Still early in the second half, but 17-5 Seton Hall is giving #1 Villanova a strong game in Philly.

Perhaps Pitt should explore replacing one Kevin with another. Perhaps reopen NYC and NJ.

  63. Agree with Tvax1 on Barnes and more importantly those that hired him…It was Scott Barnes who completely destroyed Pitt basketball. Those that made the decision to hire one and done Barnes and allowed him to completely destroy our basketball program own this mess and must do whatever is necessary to fix this.

  64. I hope Barnes is as thorough in his hiring at Oregon Stare as he was at Pitt. He has surpassed Cyanide Steve in my mind as worst PITT AD ever!

  65. Hey PittPT, I’m not sure it’s about patience? More like adjusting oneself to the reality of the situation. Expecting an AD to come into an unknown situation like Heather has done and start firing people willy nilly is unreasonable. Chet makes a good point. There is a time and place for everything. The basketball program is hanging by a thread and could turn into the football nonsense we all have to live through if you start the firing and hiring doomsday process. Continuity my good buddy… ike ….. even though I do want a change in hoops… $$ may prevent that?

  66. Ike, to me patience is allowing KS to play out the string. Anything past that signals that the powers that be are accepting of the current situation. So if we win 3 games in the ACC next year, we are getting better and allow this to continue ? I can’t see how another year benefits anyone, including KS. He should take a negotiated buyout and pursue his musical career.

  67. PITT may just work something out with KS. You think PITT is bush league? Firing him tomorrow would be bush league by any standard and a very bad idea. Let’s not assume what we really don’t know. Weren’t you the one Mark that commented on Heather’s lack of endorsement for KS?

  68. I don’t think we should fire KS at this point, and if he can’t take 2 of 4 from Fla St, WF, BC, and ND, he probably saves his job. If we lose them all and go 0-18 in conference, there will only be one choice for our AD. Futility on that level cannot be blamed entirely on the players.

      1. You’re right ! With all of Pitt’s sports teams doing lousy sans Girl’s volleyball and the football team, you have to wonder if Pitt is just going to be satisfied having money to fund all their teams from ACC money and going to 3rd rate bowl games.

  69. Cal ends nine-game skid, beats Oregon State 74-70 ( this game appeared when I clicked on a Pitt/UNC link and at that time it was 17-6 Oregon State in the lead)

Herman the Great gets to hire another BBall coach after this year. Maybe Heather can bring Wayne Tinkle to Pitt, that would be something Pitt would do.

Herman’s Hermits were 1-17 in the Pac 12 last year, 5-27 overall. This year they are 3-7 in conference
having lost 7 of the last 9 games.

  70. ACC is pretty weak this year, so Pitt being at the bottom of Conference is even more pathetic.

St. John’s, 0-11 in the Big East, steps out of conference play and snaps an 11-game skid vs. Duke
