Ryan Luther, who hasn’t played since December 9, holds a two offensive rebound edge over the combined offensive rebound total of Kene Chukwuka and Terrell Brown.
Luther had played 325 minutes. Chukwuka and Brown have combined for 656 minutes thus far. Pitt is shooting 42% from the field as a team.
Chukwuka and Brown have however combined for 7 more 3 point attempts than Luther while shooting a combined 21% from the arc. Luther had been shooting 39% from the arc.
Gminski just had a key to the game that stated that Pitt needs a big game from their 3 best players yet I didn’t hear the players identified. Who are they?
Blame Barnes for this mess. Oh, I forgot, some of you thought he walked on water when he took the AD job. He was tall, spoke well, he had it all. Burned!
Pitt fans slobbered all over Barnes when he got the job, he and Gallagher were going to lead Pitt to the Promise Land. What a joke! Just like the next basketball coach who’ll suck I’m sure.
Stallings still has his job because ” The powers that be” refuse to bite the bullet and pay out his contract. Pitt is getting clobbered in terms of income at the Pete. Not low attendance the term should be almost NO attendance. Total loss of fan interest and alumni participation. This nonsense MUST end as soon as possible. Our “athletes” will not develop into anything even remotely capable of playing ACC level basketball. SHAME ON US!!
I think Luther could be a starter on some teams depending upon the strengths of other players. He’s a good shooter, rebounder and capable passer. He’s not a great transition player. He’s not terribly athletic. He’s not particularly quick.

If the barbecue loving Hog at Arkansas can be bought out, Pitt can find a way to buy out Rockports. Spread the money out. Lost revenues alone can pay for it.
There may not be a thing called Pitt basketball if KS is allowed to continue coaching. And frankly, a whole new crop of Jucos and frosh cant be as bad as this one.
This mess is on Gallagher…a pencil pushing bureaucratic physicist who knows more about measuring things. It doesnt take a PhD to know that Pitt is falling far short of acceptable standards.
And it would be interesting to measure lost ticket sales revenue etc. vs KS salary to see what our true net loss would be per season if he were cut loose. I’m sure the university knows the answer to this.
I can’t remember a game when one team had 3 chances from the free throw line and the other had 23. 23-3. 23-3. 23-3. Don’t blame the refs because most of our offense is stand around in a circle >>> pass, pass, pass heave a shot from 42 feet from the basket for an attempted 3 miss the shot and allow the other team to get the rebound. FOR THIS FANTASTIC GAME PLAN WE PAY the BOLL WEEVIL $2 MILLION PER YEAR! Yeah, I am shouting because steam is coming out of my ears from watching this train wreck.
Why would anybody conspire against Pitt? They are not relevant. It is not like there is big money being bet on a Pitt-Miami conference game. What would the incentive be? Pitt doesn’t threaten any team in the ACC. Nobody in the ACC is worried about Pitt taking their recruits.
Wilson-Frame and Carr have their best shooting games in nearly a month and half and Pitt still loses by 12.
How is that Stevenson played 30 minutes and still only managed 4 rebounds? Oops my bad, Chukwuka, Brown and Illegomah combined for 5 rebounds in 40 minutes.
Miami won this game on the glass. This seems familiar. If only something could be done.
Pitt Basketball is dead to me. I/we didn’t create the hoax hiring of KS …Barnes Gallagher and the BOT did. But mostly Barnes…whether he was brought in by the BOT and Gallagher to kill off Dixon or whether he did it on his own…Barnes is THE man. I spent my last business years being a take no prisoners hard ass so here’s my deal. Gallagher has to have something on Barnes. Call him, tell him to take KS off Pitt’s hands or else! No pay out. Just take him to Oregon State. Now Pitt is free and clear of$$. Then find someone competent…not Heather for Gods sake…someone …a Pitt Man to find us a new coach. And while we’re at it …let’s replace this incompetent Penn State bitch who is running the women’s b-ball program.
After that, let’s kindly say good by to all the PSU Alums running the BOT and anyone else on the BOT that does not have Pitt’s best interest at heart. Pitt Basketball is a money drawing disgrace which is ruining what brand we have left! That is a disaster that cannot be replaced by money.
I have nothing against Heather, don’t know her at all….but Narduzzi loves her. From today’s Trib:
“I’m not going to say this because her dad and brother are out here (at the luncheon),” he said. “It’s a fact, and I’ll say it anywhere, anytime — Heather Lyke is incredible.
“Thank God I was on that committee because it was an opportunity to see firsthand who she was as a person, her care for the student-athlete and her enthusiasm.
“I couldn’t say anything better about the type of person she is. I’ve never had an AD — as an assistant coach, a GA and now as a head coach — who has been more involved.
“She works like a coach. She’ll answer the phone at 5 a.m. It’s like, ‘What are you doing up this early?’ Then at 11:30, same thing. Emails, texts, phone calls. Heather is like a sister to me. It feels like that kind of relationship.” ~ Narduzzi
I’m truly glad he likes her. I worked with a lot of people I liked who were completely over their head in their positions. And yes, I answered my phone at 5 am also. What an endorsement!!!Wow! Let’s move her to PR Rep for the football team. She can give out awards during dead time at practices!
Have you ever heard any manager who recommended someone for a job say…” you know I really screwed up..she sucks”…ever??
I don’t understand why KS sees no value in offensive rebounding. They take their three and run to the other end. No one follows their own shot which is a pretty basic way to get put back baskets. Tonights game was like watching two teams run the same style only with superior athletes on one side. Except that Miami worked for offensive rebounds. Blair made a living with offensive rebounds and put backs. I get that the centers are too frail, but Stevenson and Wilson-Frame have the bulk to take up space underneath.
I just don’t see Stallings ever being a winner. He will never get the talent to match the top ACC teams and his system stinks. What offensive genius doesn’t value offensive rebounds?
You’re exactly right with Brown and Chuck being…I won’t say frail, but they need to bulk up. Also agree that Stevenson and Wilson-Frame could get it done. However, of all the players on this team, they remind me the most of Artis and Young. Stevenson will probably turn out to be a decent power forward, but doesn’t seem to get it yet on the offensive rebound end. Frame, I think, will always want to be a point guard.
It was nice to see the team make a little run in the second half, but then Miami put on the afterburners.
Pretty much any ACC team is going to that. I don’t expect it to be any different next year with this coach.
They may be incrementally better, but much of the conference reloads every year and have much better coaching. Barnes is gone, the only one left to blame is Gallagher and he is the only one that can do anything about it.
He wasn’t in his usual seat for the Syracuse game, maybe he has given up too. I know I won’t be back next year unless there is real change.
My last thought on BB as I don’t follow the sport though I played in HS…
The 1967 Ambridge Bridgers would beat us his Pitt team by double digits…without pushing, shoving, palming, traveling and fancy dribbling between the legs…
actually, not sure. Wilson-Frame would have taken Pepe DePaquale to the rack. But on the other hand, they wouldn’t have outrebounded Wuycik and Kauffman
wwb… what a great high school team. I am too ole school for the modern day game…but once upon a time enjoyed playing and watching… something to do to fill in time between baseball and football season… we played Year round didn’t we.
Our “ Norman Rockwell” years..
they were the best team I ever saw based on (1) they had no close games and (2) had three D1 players who played very well in top level (Duke, UNC and Purdue).
Schenley 07 (Blair, Kennedy, Bryant and Kane), and
Fifth Ave 76 (Clancey, Clarke and Mackin)
an oddity …. Midland, Schenley and Fifth Ave no longer exist …. in fact, the years that Scheney and Fifth won their titles were the final years for both schools
Well we’re living here in Stallingstown
And soon the ACC won’t want us around,
Out in Oakland kids are drinking, killing time
Playing on the internet,
No longer at the Pete standing in line.
Well our fathers saw Doc Carlson coach,
Spent their weekends at the Fitz Fieldhouse for sure,
Met our mothers at the Dirty O,
Asked them to share an Iron,
Then up to the dorms,
And we’re living here in Stallingstown,
And this awful basketball causes me to frown…
And it’s getting very hard to stay,
Can someone save us from this Stallingstown?
For days of athletic glory Pitt has never found,
For Chancellor Posvar went and shot them down,
Ruining athletic programs for academics only goes so far,
the front porch is scarred!
So the Helms Foundation Banners and Donn Hennon’s hang on the wall
And Kevin Stallings and various AD’s never really helped us at all,
No final four or five star recruits,
Birch and Adams were flops,
The last few years our academic rating has dropped…
And we’re waiting here in Stallingstown
Where have all the rankings gone? Long time standing
Where have all the sell-outs gone? Just a short time ago.
Where have all the NCAAS gone
Just more terrible hirings
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Where have all the good players gone? Long time standing
Where has all the rebounding gone? Just a short time ago
Where has all the good recruiting gone
Just more terrible hirings
Oh, when will they ever learn
BigB, I just worry who takes his place. Are things going to get worse before they get better? As a Cleveland Browns fan…I can tell you, things can get worse.
Pitt under Stallings is currently 4-24 in conference and 24-32 overall. Those loss numbers will likely increase by 8 or 9 at season’s end.
Attendance averaging 4000-5000 reported per game. Stallings being booed at every introduction.
At most 3 new guys on the roster worth retaining next year. I am hedging here because the identity of those 3 changes week to week. For example Stewart would have been a lock 2 weeks ago but he’s shooting poorly again and doesn’t have much value otherwise. Carr would have been out because of his play for several games but he’s played fairly well the last 2 games.
A middling class coming in next year including a JUCO kid who has been recently suspended.
A junior transfer guard from St. John’s (perennial losing program) coming in who isn’t a good shooter and doesn’t appear to do anything else well.
Outside perception has to be that the Pitt program is in the dumpster. It doesn’t look good to recruits (football too), fans or media.
But who do we bring in? And will this person be able to do anything with the people we currently have? As much as I do not like Stallings, I think a new coach might make things worse.
Bring in Crean or Thad Matta and let one of them give this a try. Or maybe Greg McDermott who would be my top choice. Of course that would take a BoT, Chancellor & AD who actually care about sports….
Hey, Heather! If you’re reading this, your biggest problem isn’t the folks on here that watched the game and are furious. It’s the ones like me (and most of your students) who found other things to do and didn’t even bother.
But hey, like Herman said, “Stay above the noise.”
wwb.. great memory which prompts me to ask you about another team.. Class B ,I think, Mohawk. I remember them beating Mooney Knights Braddock team. Don’t think Mohawk had a player over 6’ but played great team ball… think Mohawk made a run the year after Ambridge… did they win the state title?
Mohawk won the state title in B the same year that Beaver Falls won in A (Oscar Jackson, Al Hmiel, Ken Waggoner) – 1970. I remember that because I played against Dale Zeh and Terry Vrabel (2 Mohawk stars) in junior high.
BF and Mohawk bordered each other …. if Zeh lived a 1/4 mile south, he would have played for BF. Vrabel went on to be a pretty good guard at St Vincent’s
Even though he was several years older than me, played against Terry Vrabel in some summer leagues in the 70’s. I remember his blond hair flopping around. And yes he was a pretty good guard and very quick.
Of course HCPN will talk up Heather-the-award-presenter.
7-Year contract after a losing season.
Who wouldn’t love a boss like that?
And our dividend: 3-star recruits.
Barvo commented at 9:38: “At most 3 new guys on the roster worth retaining next year. I am hedging here because the identity of those 3 changes week to week. For example Stewart would have been a lock 2 weeks ago but he’s shooting poorly again and doesn’t have much value otherwise. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Sounds like you’re watching a bunch of true freshman playing.
Carr has regained some lost confidence on his shot, since he made the 3, right before the end of the half, a couple games ago. Still throws up bricks though too, as they all do(Warriors kid & Juco kid). So that might be a product of how wide open or not they are, when they take the shot.
In ACC conf games here’s their shooting %’s :
Juco Kid – 35% fg 24% from 3
Warriors Kid – 40% fg 39% from 3
Carr – 32% fg 20% from 3
Here’s a statistical nugget.

Well, more SHOOTING guard. Lots of shooting…

But on the other hand, they wouldn’t have outrebounded Wuycik and Kauffman

they were the best team I ever saw based on (1) they had no close games and (2) had three D1 players who played very well in top level (Duke, UNC and Purdue).
Schenley 07 (Blair, Kennedy, Bryant and Kane), and
Fifth Ave 76 (Clancey, Clarke and Mackin)
were also undefeated and could be considerd

also Midland 64 (Van Lier, Hill)

an oddity …. Midland, Schenley and Fifth Ave no longer exist …. in fact, the years that Scheney and Fifth won their titles were the final years for both schools

Well we’re living here in Stallingstown
And soon the ACC won’t want us around,
Out in Oakland kids are drinking, killing time
Playing on the internet,
No longer at the Pete standing in line.
Well our fathers saw Doc Carlson coach,
Spent their weekends at the Fitz Fieldhouse for sure,
Met our mothers at the Dirty O,
Asked them to share an Iron,
Then up to the dorms,
And we’re living here in Stallingstown,
And this awful basketball causes me to frown…
And it’s getting very hard to stay,
Can someone save us from this Stallingstown?
For days of athletic glory Pitt has never found,
For Chancellor Posvar went and shot them down,
Ruining athletic programs for academics only goes so far,
the front porch is scarred!
So the Helms Foundation Banners and Donn Hennon’s hang on the wall
And Kevin Stallings and various AD’s never really helped us at all,
No final four or five star recruits,
Birch and Adams were flops,
The last few years our academic rating has dropped…
And we’re waiting here in Stallingstown

How much worse can it really get?

If we lost EVERYONE on the current team, we could surely find 15 more new guys to go winless in the ACC and get blown out in most of those games.
You’re not losing anyone of consequence, which is why NOW is the time to shove Otis out the door.

wwb.. great memory which prompts me to ask you about another team..

All 3 of them are certainly replaceable if you brought in a new coach and they left.
Are you kidding me 🙂

As a Team, in ALL Games….. Pitt is shooting :
41.8 % fg
32. 5% from 3
70.8% ft
ACC Games
37.9% fg
30.3 % from 3
72.8 ft
What is kind of telling stat about this team’s lack of quickness and/or athleticism is
it’s lack of steals. Dead last in the ACC at only 4.2 spg
http://www.theacc.com/stats.aspx?path=mbball&year=2017&conf=true
And if you don’t buy that, then it’s a lack of coaching.
