  1. Pitt AD Lyke should bet 10M a game against Pitt and by the end of the Season she can build our New Stadium in Cash.

    Take NC State.

    O/U on attendance: 4k

Pitt built the Pete to be 30% of capacity and to act as a house of horrors.

  4. Mark/UPitt: Here’s an idea. We get pledges from POV readers and bet 100k tonight. After we win, we press the bet for each of the remaining hoops games this year. Then, assuming that our girl Heather keeps Otis around for another year, we keep the bet going next year. I didn’t do the math, but we’d be well on our way to building an OCS!!!

    1. I love the idea. Pitt only needs to raise about $200M (via donations…half down) over 10 years for a rec center/Multi Purpose Venue. So $20M (after-tax) in sports winnings each year is very doable as long as Otis is retained.

30,000 Pitt fans (core supporters) betting against Pitt every game should net about $50 per game (I’ve analyzed Vegas payouts using algorithm…behind paywall if you need to see). Thats $1.5M and over 30 games thats roughly $45M.

We are well on our way.

  7. Upitt, you of anyone here would know that we would need to bet about 100M or more against Pitt to win 10M on a Pitt basketball loss.

Amirite? The moneyline on a Pitt loss would have to pay very little.

  8. NC State’s leading scoring is some 7 footer Turk who avg’s about 14ppg and 7 rpg, although he’s avg about 17 ppg in ACC games.

He most likely will have his way with the Wookie and his weakling pals.

2nd leading scorer is Torin Dorn a 6’6″ Guard who goes for 13 ppg 7.5 rpg
3rd leading scorer is a familiar name, Lenard Freeman, who Dixon struck out on. 10.5 ppg

    They aren’t great, but……….

Hey but the Lady Panthers (are we still allowed to call them that ?) have won an ACC Game.

  24. Upitt, these are college basketball players. They are not applying for an accounting or business job. Now, would I like it if my son had wild and crazy hair? No. Would it make me think any less of him? No.Would it make him any less of a volleyball player? No. If he is a senior and getting ready to interview for jobs- then yes, I would want him to look more professional (he is a finance major). But for now, let them be kids. Heck, there are plenty of kids all tatted up- to me that is worse, because those are permanent. Haircuts can be shaped up in an hour. Just have them keep up the 10 point lead and i am a happy camper for tonight.

    1. Absolutely. Him missing is what gave me hope. What I think happened is that he got in foul trouble early, NC State’s defense sagged in response, and our perimeter was open for 3s and pick and rolls. Pitt fell in love with the 3 and in the 2nd half didn’t attack to draw more fouls, while the State defense reasserted itself.

      1. NC State definitely upped the defensive game in the second half. They began stopping penetration, they protected the rim, they had active hands in the lane, they defended the arc. It’s like they started to take the game seriously. They also pounded the glass.

  34. Pure and simple, there’s two kinds of posters here- the ones who are tired of the excuses, we’re an urban school, our alumni base is small, yada yada.. and the ones who want and expect more.

LEADERS don’t dwell on the negatives, they look for ways to improve and overcome. They don’t cite reasons to justify mediocrity.

We know Pitt’s challenges. We know Pitt’s strengths. We want more. What’s more American than that?

The Upitt’s and TX Panther’s and Emel’s among us want and DEMAND more. For those of you aming us who aren’t demanding more I say, YOU ENABLE THOSE WHO SAY WE CAN’T.. and you empower our BOT who agrees with you.

My PITT is powerful. My PITT bows to no one.

Hail to Pitt, hail to Pitt every loyal son!
Hail to Pitt, hail to Pitt ’til the victory is won!
The gold and blue shall wave forever
    On high through fair and stormy weather;
We’ll sing her praises far and wide
    Until the end of time!

We’re PITT men. We expect and demand no less!

  36. I have always believed that in college basketball, EVERY team has at least one game where they play out of their heads. They get another game where the other team plays their season-worst. Every team, literally at random, will win one or two because of that. It is the beauty of the upset…college kids are not consistent enough. Random variation in science states that one out of 20 times, a large outlier occurs.

Welp, last night was going to be our outlier game! And yet we still lost. To me, this is really telling. We cannot even squeak away the outlier game, hell, or even just keep the outcome in question until the last minute.

If our young freshmen really had core talent to become a middle-pack or better ACC team, the outlier game would happen. If not 3 times. Yet we cannot even see one of them. To me this says, no, these kids, and I really like them all they seem great kids, are not “just freshmen” waiting to learn to win. They are who they are and Stalling is who he is.

We might end up with that outlier game at some point this season. But even if we do, for me, well, I will be happy for the kids, but it won’t mean a thing with regard to the future of Pitt basketball. It is grim. Lets not put lipstick on a pig.

    1. Seemed like Pitt was actually driving to the rim in the first half. It seemed they were successful in part because of the success at the 3P shooting. For example Wilson-Frame had a few nice drives for finishes or fouls after he drained a few. NC State played a much better defensive game in the second half and Pitt continued to try to rain 3s. Fools gold.

      1. There was no way our shooting was going to hold at what it was in the 1st half, since WF was 2 for 20 prior to him throwing a few in. And you knew NC state couldn’t continue to shoot that low of a %.
They all of a sudden shot 60% or better in the last 4 minutes.

      2. The big Turk was on the bench in the 1st half. That opened up all the pick and rolls – which came after the 3s opened up the inside. No one on Pitt’s team could hang when the 7-footer was in.

  39. I’ve excluded Luther and Milligan from this. Luther because he’s done. Milligan because I am sure his minutes and attempts will continue to diminish. Plus he’s only 2 attempts ahead of Chukwuka.

Top 5 3P shooters in attempts with their percentages:

    Wilson-Frame 138 28.3%
    Stewart 107 37.4
    Carr 67 34.3
    Davis 38 52.6
    Chukwuka 31 25.8

Wilson-Frame and Carr have been very poor in conference play. Wilson-Frame is shooting 19.2% in conference. Carr is shooting 14.3%.

Stewart has improved in conference play at 45%.

Davis has remained consistent but only has 15 attempts.

Chukwuka has no business shooting 3s but apparently won’t be denied.

Based upon what I’ve seen in “adjustments” this analysis is lost on the staff.

I found it interesting that Luther was shooting 38.7% from the arc before he went down. That was the lowest percentage of his career.

    2. When NC State tightened up their defense in the 2nd half, Pitt couldn’t buy a 3. For whatever reason they were giving Pitt players space in the 1st half.

As noted last nite, The Wookie was allowed to launch 2 of Pitt’s final 3 shots. Both were 3’s that weren’t even close to going in. One was even after a Pitt timeout, when Otis set up a play (apparently)

  40. I got home from work and turned on the game and it was 17-6 NC State. I was about to just to turn it off but my son said its still early so I stuck with it. For the next hour I was so glad I did as the effort on both sides of the floor was tremendous and I found myself really invested in a game for the first time since Jamie Dixon’s last game, which if you recall was the Wisconsin NCAA tourney debacle. I was much more bummed last night than I was after that game because I think we all can agree that no matter how much you dislike the coach (i get it) and AD (i don’t) nobody wants to see these kids lose every game in ACC play and that may have been their best chance to get one.

  41. How much does this team improve next year after a total year of experience and an additional off season?

This year most likely contains no conference wins, but I think we snag a few next year due to experience and more maturity. Also, too bad we didn’t play Navy and Montana now instead of at the start of the year. I think we win those two. Trying to be glass half full fellas but not much to hang the old hat on right now.

    Like

    1. You mean the Navy home game when Wilson-Frame was 8-17 and 4-7 on 3s for 20 points? Carr was 3-5 from the arc with 4 assists and 1 turnover? Stevenson had 7 points and 9 boards? Luther stuffed the stat sheet including 14 points, 8 boards and 4 assists, 2 steals and a block? Pitt still lost by 9,

You mean the Montana home game when Wilson-Frame was 5-10 for 15 points? Stevenson was 7 of 10 for 19 points and 6 boards? Luther went for 18 points and 11 boards (7 offensive)? Pitt still lost by 5.

Wilson-Frame and Carr that well since Christmas. They’ve played worse. In fact WF and Carr have played far worse in conference. Luther is done. Stevenson has been on a downward trend the past 4-5 games.

I think you’re making flawed assumptions regarding next season. There will be improvement among this group next season. The conference opponents will not improve.

  42. Snagging a few next year, is what 2-4 wins. If Otis is still around after this year, he will need to ‘free up’ more than a few more scholarships. Cause what we got is a team that is at the bottom of nearly every statistical category in the ACC. And it’s not even close with the next to the last team above us.

This current group will be NEVER go .500 in the ACC if they play for Pitt for 10 years.
