  4. Weather update for Thursday. Beautiful fall day for a football game in Pittsburgh. Sunny and a high of 54 degrees, problem is that it is a night game and a low of 31. Bundle up campers cause it’s cold outside…..

  5. Ike, we humans radiate ~ 350,000 Joules of energy per hour which is roughly the energy produced by a 100 watt light bulb….no need to have peeps shivering in the upper deck. We all need to sit close to stay warm..the more peeps the more heat. Lets fill-up the ketchup bottle and enjoy kicking the Heels butts in the body heat. ( I got a good deal in the club section- my friend Frank likes his scotch)

Anybody think the PSU/Pitt game would be soooo different if it were to be this week? Anticipation and hype to really have a chance to kick them while they are stumbling. Just a random thought popped in my head. I swear I could be happy with 1 win per year for Pitt if it were “the right game”.

I know, kind of sad…but think attendance would be no issue Thursday either.

@Lastrow, what kind of hoagies? Iek mentioned some place close on the North Side. Might just have to look into coverage for the office for the afternoon. Haha.

    1. tvax1 – yes I think it would be different. We had a ton of first year/first time starters who have now gained experience. They have one (and maybe more) key injuries. Our D played well against them but didn’t really even know how to run the nickel D as I recall. The final score would be within a touchdown or so, and not 20 points.

Still, they are better than us this year. They have a couple of game changer type players and are more experienced.

Just wanted to say again and I know you all agree, REED KOHBERGER is the man.. He busts his ass and if it wasn’t for him where would we all be? I would be in depressedburgh at this point. Although I have been in the suburbs for a long while… Thanks reed.

  13. Btw Reed, if you’d like, I might be able to get that “edit” option figured out and maybe even the “reply” function to pull down the original post and get placed last in the comments if you would want both of those functions. Let me know.

      1. Unfortunately what I got from my guy and from WordPress is that neither can be done with their current service. Sorry, thought I remembered there being an “edit” button in the early days of your setting up this site and figured it would just take going through the steps to activate it for use. Neither that nor the “nested” replies being brought down to the bottom of the comments section are possible. I even asked about “numbering” the comments as that might help tracking/following – not possible either.

Only good option on the “reply” part is the check box for “Notify me of new comments via email” you can use prior to posting the reply.

        So much for WordPress, meh.
        Reed and Pitt still awesome.

  14. “Anytime you get a guy (Ben DiNucci) out there and you can see how he reacts in a game to find out what he does well, what he’s not doing well, what do we change, what can we do better, it certainly helps you that way,” Narduzzi said — Post Gazette

Well, what do you know… maybe HCPN is learning something?

    Like

    1. Dream… Narduzzi says “what can we do better…” in reference to having DiNucci in there and learning from what he’s doing.

I think that’s kind of dangerous because what he’s saying to us is that DiNucci’s going to be the quarterback and we’re going to adapt whatever offense we have around him.

I think that sounds like he’s planning on having him quarterback in the future and we’re going to be able to mold our offense around him not only for the rest of the season but maybe over the offseason going into 2018.

I truly hope that isn’t the case because if it’s not Pickett it better be another transfer quarterback because DiNucci is not going to be able to carry this team to wins against good quality opposition and overcome any other deficits we might have on offense and defense.

      Like

      1. Even if Narduzzi remains hard headed stubborn, and sticks with Ben through the end of the season, I’m sure that come Spring ball that there will be established an atmosphere that encourages at least a two QB competition going into 2018. Who knows, maybe a light goes on in MacVittie’s head and we have a three way race going on during the Spring.

I don’t think that DiNucci is the QB that takes us to the next level competing for an ACC title, no matter how much better he plays with additional experience, so sooner or later Pickett or “somebody” has to step into that position who has the upside potential & ability to put the team on his back for those tuff wins that earns you a shot at the Acc Championship.

Nothing would make me happier therefore than to see the Panthers come right out of the gate to thump the Tarheels in the first half so that we have a big enough score cushion to let Pickett get some much needed reps in a real game. At this point he looks like Pitt’s future.

  15. Keys to beating unc – IMO

QB must manage the game well – The first back to back 3 and out series, we have to see Kenny Pickett (at least for the next series).

Pitt must establish the run early by dominating the line of scrimmage.

Throw to the TE’s often and early. This will be a surprise to the unc D because there is none of that on film.

Get Lil’ Q and RaRa the ball in open space.

Throw at least 4 deep balls to Weah – mix them as post patterns and hook & go routes.

Stop the run, both RB and QB.

BONUS – if and when Pitt has a 3 score lead, insert Kenny Pickett for game reps. Make sure DiNooch knows th3 plan before game time.

    HTP!

  16. I agree with reed the longer this goes on the more likely we get tino 2 in tino dinucci . low skill set but good game manager. actually dinucci reminds me of all these woeful Big 10 quarterbacks we see every weekend. Unfortunatley we will go into every game with the weaker qb.

  19. NC will not be a pushover Thursday night. They played strong against Miami, and are similar in that their young players are coming on. If Pitt is looking ahead to VA Tech, we could be seeing an upset unfold. It looks like Dinucci is going to be the man for the foreseeable future. Can’t see a situation where Pickett gets much PT over the final three games. It is a lot to ask a young QB to beat out the starter in Spring ball and camp.

  21. Interesting comment from the Titleman comparing BN to TS. Based on the physical abilities that may be a fair comparison. However, BN has already done something TS never did and that is to come back from a third qtr deficit. Ben has started three games, I think the comparisons are a bit premature. The question is how much will he improve?

I agree that Picket appears to have more upside regarding pure physical talent. If he has the accuracy to go along with arm strength, pocket awareness and the ability to read defenses and execute the game plan, he should win the job next spring or fall. A bowl game would give him a lot more snaps in practice to show what he can do.

I think Ben gives us a much better chance to get that bowl game right now.

Coaches want to win football games. If Pickett has the ability, he will take the job next year, or if Ben flops, maybe sooner.

The VA game showed overall improvement, hopefully it continues Thursday night.

  22. QB is always the toughest position to break in a new starter. Field decisionmaking only comes with experience. ike, was that you singing? I see where David Crosby of CSN fame is back in the studio making records so there is hope for all of us old geezers!

  23. Agreed gc, PITT doesn’t have the time to fiddle around with the QB situation. Thursday game is a must win for this year, any good accomplished would go down the drain with a loss.

but… a couple Pickett well practiced packages could actually help PITT do that and get the youngster quality playing time. The kid needs to play some..

  24. Why are we discounting the opponent over the last two games? We did not win because our qb lit it up. That is the problem. Look at the top 25 and compare their qb to ours. That is our deficiency in getting to a consistent 8-9 win season. Our qb’s can’t win games and show no signs of being able to put the team on their respective shoulders for victory. They just can’t. Play the new qb’s. If they have it, play em more. If they don’t, recruit more qb’s. At some point, we must hit it big.

Secondly, I predict at least 80% of my POV brothers get the Friday prediction right for Thursdays game.

  25. I don’t know about you guys but I think it’s time to show a package for the Wildcat.

My question to the UNC DC, what do you do the first time you see Jordan Whitehead behind center with Q. Henderson in motion behind the line? Is it a jet sweep? Is it a off tackle run up the middle? Or does Whithead do sonwthing completely novel & through the ball? I’ll guarantee this, whatever they do to counter one option leaves them vulnerable to a big play with the corresponding misdirection alternative. It’s time for a little Canadian imagination to show up in Pitt’s playbook?

OC Watson needs to pull out all that he can to win this game.

  27. Good cal doc, I don’t think a trick offense is the way to go long run but when your offense has some deficiencies like PITT has then add some trickeration to the mix like last year.

Whitehead has proven to be a real special athlete for sure and QH is not far behind…. love to see them in the game at the same time.

If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshcitt << another one of my mantra’s… . . .ike

  28. Narduzzi and Watson have opted to stay with our Ivy League capable book learner at QB. I”m sure whatever DiNucci posses between his ears comes forth in the film room and continues on the practice field. Pickette can’t compete right now against our bookish QB in residence. Thus Narduzzi and Watson will stick with DiNucci until the dyeing end before we see Pickette any more on the field this season. The only way Pickette plays is if DiNucci gets injured or if Pitt ends up losing to both NC and Vt.

  33. But what happened to Sear after Naruzzi burned his red shirt, ike? Maybe he is getting some special teams action, but it would be good to see some two tight end sets. What is the POV consensus on Watson? Is he going to be back next year, and is he capable of recruiting a decent QB? By the way, I caught some of the Alabama LSU game and saw some jet sweeps. What a shock! One of the LSU players was quoted as saying that Saban told him if he dared to go to LSU Bama would beat him for 4 straight years! Saban is a master closer and hard sell artist.

  34. VOR, Watson will definitely be back. PITT can’t fire an OC after they changed OC’s 3 years in a row already. The QB situation is iffy at best right now. I wouldn’t be so quick to judge him. No chance he’s gone.

Sear will play more now that Flannigan is out but his bigger days will come next year and after. I’ve said before that it would be Carrigan moved to the O-Line. I still feel that’s the way it will go.

Sear reminds me of Rosy Nix of the Steelers. You know, the guy you don’t muck around with…. just watch… ike

  50. Can’t take Carolina lightly..those boys are desperate and do have speed and recruit at a fairly decent level. they have had many starters out for most of the games played to date- my buddy Frank who is a livid Tarheel fan reports the number has been as high as 16 starters missing and they have issues at QB. I saw them at ODU and they didnt look good on either side of the ball but that was at the start of the season. some of those starters are getting back into the line-up. If we can get some pressure on their QB Surratt-he will give-up and the back-up from LSU Harris is not good. So we can’t shoot ourself in the foot and make stupid mistakes like turning the ball over…Live up to your APR rankings and kick the HEELS A$$ 56-0 ..No mercy for my good friends from Carolina after what I have witnessed in this series especially the last 2 years..namely, last year year….That ending still Pi$$e$ me n Dr. Tom OFF…we had to go back and drink beer with Tarheels Greg and Frank.

Reminds of a skiing trip Jeanie B and myself took to Tahoe Superbowl week-end when the Steelers played Seattle… the lobby of the hotel was the sight of the party and all were wearing their team garb including me and the bride . This lady dressed in her Seahawk’s game jersy came up to me before before the game as I was standing in line to get a beer (already had a few in the tank) and she looks me right right in the eye and said ” Both teams are so good I don’t want to see anybody lose today,” She was serious as a heart attack. I fired back (without thinking or editing) ” I hope we kick your Seahawk a$$e$ 45-0″ adding ” what kind football fan are you ?!!!#@!
