POV Countdown to YSU Tailgating

(Note – this is pinned until Sunday for the info within. Newest articles are posted directly under this one.)

One week until the YSU game so let’s talk about our Pitt POV Tailgating arrangements.  I know you can’t wait and neither can I, and it is all free to you…

Flag Pitt Script

First off, we will be in Fran Lokar’s 20+ year spot in Parking Lot Red 5A, which is bordered by General Robinson street to the south and Reedsdales street to the north and directly next to the Red 5 parking garage. It is also directly under the North Shore Light Rail station and adjacent to the Residence Inn.  Very easy to find…

Red5A

Fran will have the great 20′ flag pole and POV & Pitt flags that Bernie B. so graciously donated to the tailgating cause – thanks to both of you.

Fran historically gets to his spot five hours before the game begins (1pm against YSU this Saturday) and I’ll drive up and get there between 10-11am. This is going to be a blast guys – totally free of course and all we want is to meet, greet and drink a few with all the POV friends we have made on here over the last year.

I’ll be passing out some free stuff – mostly shirts, both the older white color and a new one based on Pitt’s “throwback” uniforms… so come and grab one or two of those also.

POV Shirt BluePOV Shite White

We’ll be there for some time after the game also. Fran usually sticks around two hours or so after the game has finished so we’ll have good times both coming and going.  Here are more detailed directions to the tailgate:   When you enter the lot Red 5A from General Robinson Street we are at the 11:00 position near a short cement wall under an overpass and right next to one of the Red Garage exit ramps.

Below is a poll on if you will attend or not so that we can adjust our logistics (beer mostly) please use it so we know what’s up – and if you feel like commenting in the poll with your name(s) that is good also.

Guys and Girls – thanks for everything you have done this last year in making the Pitt POV the best damn Pitt football site in all the media.  Please show up and let me repay you in a small manner… and come out to meet all the people you have been talking about Pitt football with.

HTP!!

Reed

  1. Guys – a reader, John Kertis, sent me this via email yesterday so that he might get to meet other POV’ers at the Penn State game:

“Reed, I got my tickets for the Pitt PSU game today. I will be sitting in section WEU. Row 80. Seats 14&16. Any POV’ers there. Feel free to let them know.”

  3. Here are some interesting odds on our Panther’s football team for the 2017 season. It is from the website Team Rankings and is pretty detailed. It is a free newsletter-type service that sends you updates as the season progresses.

So far it doesn’t look too far off since we are all speculating at this point. Although I disagree with the 100% odds for a YSU win – or any other game as we saw with Clemson last season…

  4. Posted this on the last thread but I’ll add it here….Pitt Fan Fanatics reporting that Robert Lee has been reassigned to cover the Pitt/YSU game next week. Maybe Joe Gnu will be in the booth with him.

Regarding the Tailgate, I’m planning on making it pregame but my son may be coming in from DC so depends on when he gets home. If it’s late will stop by postgame. Thank you to tailgate committee.

Last thing… regarding the change in usage of Sweet Caroline, if Pitt is looking for a new theme, I wondered about the TV show Batman theme, given Pat Narduzzi’s use of the Bat signal, and of course our MIA Dark Knight…

Just saying it’s not the Renaissance Hotel it’s the Residence Inn.

Of course I’m going to be there at the tailgate. I’ll be across the street at the Hyatt. Hop skip and a jump away.

Reed, are you worried the cage match just might take place?

I too think the new blue POV jersey’s look great.

Red 5-A is a great spot for all. Right next to the T-station. …ike

Reed, In all probability I will not have power all of next week as we are hatched down from hurricane Harvey and will face 30+ inches of rainfall (which is already adding up). Hence, while I can, I’m going to give my season prediction of 7 regular season W’s and 5 L’s.
P.S. Would love to be wrong and see 9 W’s!!!!!!!

One of the cheers at So. Car. games have one side of the stadium yell “Game” & the other side then yell “Cocks”. They also do that cheer in the tailgates lots & on the ramps into the stadium. The difference is that the men yell “Game” & only the women yell “Cocks”. I still laugh.

My brother mentioned that he needed a new golf visor so I sent him one that had “Cocks” & a small block C (So Car logo) on it. My brother has only worn it once since no one knew that “Cocks” is a perfectly acceptable term to use when referring to So Car.

  18. Remember guys – we do our POV season predictions once fall Camp breaks off, and that was earlier this week now the team is in game week practices for the mighty YSU Penguins.

In my podcast & article tomorrow I’ll be asking you all for your season predictions and then I’ll tag that article so that we can look back at it at certain points this season and see how we’re doing.

So put your thinking caps on and get ready to really try and pinpoint what 2017 is going to be like with all the new kids coming up in the pipeline to play ball for us,the dismissals, injuries, suspension and our new transfer players. I know it’s not easy for the really die hard Pitt fans to predict that we will lose games but let’s try to be as realistic as possible with our predictions so that we see who’s the prognostic champion at the end of the year… and I will personally deliver a Pitt something-or-other or a POV something-or-other to them.

It just might be Doctor Tom now that he’s fallen down, hit his head and some of that unbridled optimism has dribbled out of his ears.

It should be a great season and I’m really anxious for it to get started… I think that it’s going to be a fun year; it’s going to be a worrisome year but it’s going to be a Pitt Football year and that’s the best you can ask for.

You guys make this whole thing so much fun… And I truly do thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart. Get you we see to the tailgate even if it a stop on your way elsewhere and let’s get the season going in style…

Rooted through the garbage a couple of times, turn every cushion over six times and blamed my wife ten times for moving it.

The next weekend and I didn’t even want to watch a game down there because I would have to get my lazy behind off the couch to operate the TV….. but that was my getaway spot so down I went with my beer and snacks. Pissed off I turned the TV on, laid down on the couch, cracked open a beer, opened up my bag of chips and went to grab a chip then ………. had a good laugh! …True story. … ike

    NT Camp / Carter
    DE A.Edwards / Weaver
    MLB Brightwell / Pine

  65. So Steigerwald calls Clemson the “mythical” champions? Didn’t they actually beat Alabama on the field?

Really disappointing to see that Hamlin didn’t make the two deep. First he moves from corner to safety.

Doesn’t look like Ford will play this year either, unless there is lot of injuries. Looks like we won’t see our dream backfield, Whitehead, Hamlin and Ford till next year, if ever.

Kudos to Jimmy Morrisey, a guy who walked on to a starting position.

  66. Living in the Y-town area and a grad of YSU, the scoop on the Penguins is they felt they played terribly on defense last time at Heinz and are looking to fix some errors, they have struggled in recent years against the pass but have been very good against the run. Offensive side of the ball, they have some inexperience at running back and wr, but return their qb that led them all the way to the title game. The Penguins have a lot of guts that didn’t quite fit in at other places on the roster so they are not your typical 1-AA squad. Key to the game will be our pass o vs penguin pass d and our d line getting pressure on their qb. If Pitt does both should be a happy ribfest, if not could be 2012 all over again.
